Christ Church Christiana Hundred October 17, 2021 In the Season of Pentecost THIS WEEK WE LIFT UP... THE FAMILY PROMISE PROGRAM. Several times a year, Christ Church works with Family Promise of Northern New Castle County to support families who are experiencing homelessness. Members of our congregation provide meals, assistance, and a friendly face to those in need. Through Family Promise, families receive daily case management support from professional staff in their search for gainful employment and sustainable housing. Over 80% of families secure housing in less than 60 days, and over 90% remain housed one year post-transition. Click here for more information. Christ Church’s next Family Promise weeks are November 14-21 and December 26-January 1. With this year’s COVID protocols, families stay overnight in the Family Promise Hospitality Center, and volunteers are needed to prepare and deliver meals there each evening and to pick up items for families during the week. For details and to volunteer, click here. IN-PERSON WORSHIP AND FELLOWSHIP We are glad to welcome all to worship and fellowship in person at Christ Church. If you are unwell or have been exposed to someone with symptoms of the Coronavirus, please join us online. Masks are not required for those who are fully vaccinated, but we ask all to wear a mask around our children when indoors and in proximity to them. Please be understanding if someone needs to maintain a greater physical distance or is reluctant to exchange physical greetings. Our staff is vaccinated, and the clergy and minister for children and youth test each Sunday morning to ensure they are virus-free. Join us for worship on: • Saturdays at 5 PM in the Chapel – Contemporary Holy Eucharist • Sundays at 8 AM in the Church – Holy Eucharist, Rite I • Sundays at 9:15 AM in the Memorial Garden – Children’s Worship with Holy Communion • Sundays at 10:30 AM in the Church – Holy Eucharist, Rite II • Wednesdays at 12 PM in the Chapel – Holy Eucharist, Rite I • Thursdays at 6:30 AM in the Chapel – Holy Eucharist, Rite II _________________________ GUEST PREACHER TODAY The Rev. Canon Martha G. Kirkpatrick is our guest preacher today at the 8 and 10:30 AM services. Martha is canon to the ordinary for the Episcopal Church in Delaware and served as rector at St. Barnabas’ Church in Wilmington previously. In her current role, she supports diocesan clergy and their families and works to inspire a culture of vitality and renewal across parishes and ministries in Delaware. Please help us welcome her to the pulpit!
CHILDREN’S WORSHIP AT 9:15 AM We gather in the Memorial Garden each Sunday at 9:15 AM for a service of Holy Communion suitable for young children and their parents. In inclement weather, the service takes place in the Chapel. Three families are asked to assist with worship each week as ushers and service ministers and to provide post-service hospitality. Click here for details and to volunteer. _________________________ SUNDAY MORNING ADULT FORMATION TODAY Join us at 9:15 AM today in Parish Hall A for “Touchless Times of Pandemic & the Importance of Human Contact.” Eighteen months of creative connections with other people has been wearing, and the longing for handshakes and hugs is palpable. Paul Gennett will unpack “a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing” from scripture and tradition. Liz Brown, owner of Be Well Life Coaching, will share ways she has encountered this deep need for connection with others and explore how to be one with another, even through these days of pandemic. For those who cannot join in person, click here for the links to view the conversation on Zoom and Facebook. _________________________ ONLINE WORSHIP As we work to improve our online viewing experience, we will post a recording of the 10:30 AM service on Sunday afternoons and will return to a livestream of this service as soon as possible. Click here to access the video. _________________________ GRIEF & CAREGIVER SUPPORT TODAY & OCTOBER 27 Our in-person Grief Support Group meets today, October 17 at 11:45 AM in Parish Hall A and welcomes those in the community who have experienced the loss of a loved one and are moving through the grief process. THE 2021 GREEN SHOW The Green Show has been a Christ Church Christmas tradition since 1953 and features a series of events intended to joyfully foster fellowship between parishioners and our community, with all proceeds given to support the work of local social service agencies identified by the Outreach Committee. The 2020 Green Show raised $80,000 for our outreach partners. This year’s Green Show will be held December 3-4. Ticket sales and preorders of some of your favorite items will be available in late-October. There are many ways to be involved, and your help is needed! Current opportunities are listed below. Click here for complete details. Craft & Freezer Workshops – October 27, November 3, & November 10 Join us as we fashion original, handcrafted items and prepare delicious homemade dishes to be sold at this year’s Green Show on Wednesdays, October 27, November 3, and November 10 from 9 AM to 12 PM and from 6 to 9 PM. No crafting or cooking experience is necessary. Craft workshops will be led by Jenny Simonton in Parish Hall A, and Freezer workshops will be led by Christina King in the Parish Center Kitchen. Click here to sign up. Donations Needed The Silent Auction is seeking donations of high-quality art, jewelry, and other treasures. Contact Cynthia Chubb at or Laura Simon for information or click here for a full list of Silent Auction items. Our Christmas Spirit shop is in need of better quality holiday and household items, decor, ornaments, toys, costume jewelry, collectibles, accessories, designer items, prints, lamps, etc. Think estate sale more than yard sale this year, and we will price items accordingly. Donations may be left in the reception area of the Parish Center or in the Green Show closet outside Parish Hall C, marked Christmas Spirit. Dried hydrangea is needed as well. Please save donations and drop off at Christ Church the week after Thanksgiving. Outside Plants Vendor Needed We are sad to report that our longtime outside plants vendor has passed away. Do you know someone who would be a great fit for our show? Please contact Becky Rogers. Silent Auction Would you like to help run one of the most successful Silent Auctions in town? The auction is a staple of our Friday night Preview Party. We are looking for someone to assist Cathy Parsells in leading this year’s event and then take over the lead next year. Contact Cathy or Wendy Massey to learn more. It’s a great way to make a big impact on our outreach to the Wilmington community! _________________________ MEMORIAL FLOWERS The flowers in the Sanctuary are given to the Glory of God in loving memory of Nathan Hayward Jr. Rosa Hayward McDonald Rose Hayward Jones
