Free Admission, ticket not required BLACKBIRD THEATRE Friday 5th October 7.30pm Blackbird explores the themes of homelessness, family breakdown, adoption and addiction. The play observes the strength and tenacity of the human spirit as it endures a profound sense of loss and belonging and a deep hunger and desire for a better life; the courage to keep faith and hope alive in the face of such adversity. Wisdom, empathy and a sense of the absurd, turn a colourless life into a magical existence, full of unseen wonders and revelatory insights. Blackbird is a Their Future Today production. All the money raised from the evening’s performance will go to the charity, whose work in Sri Lanka raises funds to provide a new life for orphaned and abandoned children; changing their young lives, providing a family, an education and a real sense of purpose and belonging. CHRIST’S HOSPITAL CHORAL SOCIETY CONCERT ST MARY’S CHURCH, THE CAUSEWAY, HORSHAM Saturday 3rd November 7.30pm CHCS perform Elgar’s The Spirit of England, one of his lesser-known works. This large-scale work, a requiem in intention, was first performed in October 1917, and sets three war poems by Lawrence Binyon, including For the Fallen. Alongside Elgar, the choir will sing a memorial work by another great English composer - the Funeral Sentences by Henry Purcell. The ‘PRs’ could easily represent today’s Hispanic population and the response of (some) of the Jets could be a mouthpiece for the ‘Wall- building Trump brigade’ in 2018. Join the Christ’s Hospital Seniors as they dance, sing, play and act their way through a timeless classic in this collaboration between the Music and Drama departments. With Choreography from renowned Dancer and Choreographer David Lloyd and the usual energy and commitment from the Christ’s Hospital Seniors, this promises to be a night out to remember.
