Click here February 2018 - Vol. 2, No. 2 Lakeville, Minnesota - Positioned to Thrive Chipotle Coming to Lakeville in 2018 The City has received a building permit application for a new multi-tenant commercial building located at the intersection of Kenwood Trail and Kenrick Avenue near I-35. A former medical clinic building on the site is currently being demolished to make way for this new commercial building. One of the future tenants has been identified as Chipotle Mexican Grill which will be 2,200 square feet and will have seating for 36 inside the restaurant, with an additional 28 seats on an outdoor patio. No additional tenants have been identified. Construction on the new building is expected to begin in the next several weeks. Lakeville Ribbon Cuttings Christian Brothers Automotive, located at 17470 Dodd Boulevard (east of Glasgow Way and north of 175th Street), held a ribbon cutting event on January 19 to celebrate its grand opening. A ribbon cutting for State Farm Insurance - Pete Peterson was held on February 2 to welcome the new business to Lakeville. New Dakota Valley Business Recognition Program Dakota Valley Recycling invites Lakeville businesses to apply for the ARROW recognition program. ARROW stands for Awards for Reduction and Recycling of Waste and is a program for businesses located in Apple Valley, Burnsville, Eagan, and Lakeville. The ARROW program, which is completely FREE for participants, is a way to recognize local businesses that implement environmentally-conscious practices such as going above and beyond in recycling, buying recycled-content materials, selling products with recycled content, and/or reducing waste, pollution, or energy. The program publicly thanks its members each year by sponsoring a local newspaper advertisement with names of participants, along with highlights of new members. To apply visit www.dakotavalleyrecycling.org/ARROW. 2018 Landscape & Home Expo in March The Lakeville Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting its 2018 Landscape & Home Expo next month on Saturday, March 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event takes place at Lakeville North High School (19600 Ipava Avenue) and will feature over 150 exhibitors that can assist attendees with home improvement projects and services. Mark your calendars for this great event! Downtown Development Guide Getting Updated The City of Lakeville began the process of updating its 2006 Downtown Development Guide in November 2017. Feedback on the existing plan and vision for the future has been obtained during several stakeholder meetings, a joint work session with Economic Development Commission, Planning Commission and City Council members, and an Open House at City Hall on January 30. If you'd like to contribute to the conversation, share your thoughts! The next public meeting will be in early March and will provide an opportunity to see a range of ideas that were gathered during the discussion process. The City Council approved the annexation of 119 acres of Airlake Airport to the City of Lakeville on January 16. This annexation was requested by the Metropolitan Airports Commission and will allow for the extension of City water and sewer service to the "South Runway Area" of Airlake Airport and will allow for the future development of additional private hangars in this area which has been planned for a number of years. Building Permit Report The City has issued building permits with a total valuation of $17,501,296 through January. This compares to a total valuation of $21,266,289 for building permits issued in January of 2017. The City issued commercial and industrial permits with a total valuation of $1,006,000 in January compared to a total valuation of $174,500 during the same period in 2017. The City has issued permits for 18 single-family homes in January with a total valuation of $5,348,000. This compares to 34 single-family home permits in January of 2017 with a total valuation of $10,540,000. The City also issued a permit for Bethlehem Baptist Church in January with a total valuation of $8,050,000. This new church is being constructed on Kenrick Avenue, adjacent to the Holiday Inn & Suites.
