Student Learning Student Learning Summary The Texas Education Agency (TEA) rated China Spring ISD overall as an "A" with the 2019 Accountability System and Special Education Determination Status of Meets Requirements. The district continued to show academic gains in several STAAR tested areas. China Spring Elementary campus received a distinction designation in closing the gaps, which means that campus performed in the top quartile of peer campuses across the state of Texas. China Spring ISD is focusing on patterns and achievement gaps evident in last year’s STAAR data. Addressing these results head-on will strengthen the district's efforts in improving individual campus ratings in the newly implemented accountability system. The district recognizes a need at all levels to discover and address gaps in learning resulting from the COVID-19 move to remote instruction and to continue preparing for the STAAR and STAAR End-of-Course exams in the 2020-2021 school year. The district recognizes the need for CSISD students to be prepared for their next steps in the post-secondary world. College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) need to be at the center of district curriculum, instruction, and assessment systems. The STAAR-EOC are completely aligned to the CCRS, and all STAAR measures students on college readiness beginning in Grade 3. The first steps in meeting these standards should be a continued focus on developing college and career awareness at the elementary level and then continuing it through high school by aligning our graduation plans and advisement with the state's endorsement programs. Student Learning Strengths China Spring ISD 2018-2019 STAAR results show gains in the focus area of the previous problem statement as Hispanic students outscored all other student groups on the Social Studies STAAR. Other gains noted were increases in both Meets Grade Level and Masters Grade Level for reading and math in grades 3, 5, and 8, as well as science in grades 5 and 8. MEETS GRADE LEVEL- Students have a high likelihood of success in the next grade, but may still need some short-term, targeted academic intervention. Students generally demonstrate the ability to think critically and apply the assessed knowledge and skills in familiar contexts. MASTERS GRADE LEVEL- students are expected to succeed in the next grade with little or no academic intervention. Students demonstrate the ability to think critically and apply the assessed knowledge and skills in varied contexts, both familiar and unfamiliar. End of Course exams at the High School also showed increases in Meets Grade Level for English II and US History, and Masters Grade Level for English I and US History. Distinction Designations: China Spring Elementary School - Closing the Gaps Problem Statements Identifying Student Learning Needs Problem Statement 1: African American student scores in reading and math tracked more than 10 points below other student groups in grades 3, 6, and 7. Root Cause: Training is needed to support instruction and engagement for diverse learners. Physical safety and freedom from bullying are always at the forefront of student needs. CSISD is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all students. An online bully reporting system (See Something, Say Something) has been successfully implemented, and an increased emphasis on marketing the hot-line will continue. Curriculum & Instruction The District CAT Team reports that overall curriculum, instruction, and assessment are strong in our district. Intentional collaboration towards more research-based instructional practices at all levels are necessary in preparing students for the rigor of the STAAR Assessment. The District Leadership Team recognizes the need to ensure strong instructional practices at all levels with an emphasis on addressing the performance of individual sub-populations. District initiatives will continue to focus on Professional Learning Communities, data-based instruction, technology integration, as well as early literacy and numeracy training and implementation. Overall, there is an emphasis on working in a collaborative environment to improve the instruction in our classrooms. The District continues to learn more about the changes to the STAAR tests and the new A-F state accountability system to ensure it remains a leading school district in the state. All 4 China Spring ISD campuses met the accountability requirements. In 2017-2018, China Spring HS received a designation of distinction. Researched-based professional development for all instructional staff is necessary for continued growth and improved instructional practices in order to meet the needs of all students. Collaboration among professional staff is imperative, along with keeping track of the degree of alignment between the written, taught, and tested curriculum. Throughout the year, resources and materials must continue to be adjusted, analyzed, and updated. Re-imagining learning where students become the creator and owner of their learning while attending school in China Spring ISD is the driving force in the technological needs of the district. All other systems either directly or indirectly support this goal by providing valuable student data to the campuses or supporting the day-to-day operations of the China Spring Independent School District District #161920 Generated by Plan4Learning.com 7 of 59 September 21, 2021 8:18 AM

Principals and/or central office administration will also attend job fairs at top universities in the state to recruit highly qualified teachers. District Processes & Programs Strengths China Spring Elementary RTI programs for academic and behavior needs, accelerated instruction, and summer remediate programs are in place to help at-risk students. District administration is commited to a focus on understanding the needs of all sub-populations and providing necessary training to meet the challenges of our continuosly changing population. Watch Dog and PTA programs increase parental involvement at the elementary and intermediate campuses. Social Workers are employed for the district and social work interns are utilized to meet the social and emotional needs of our students. China Spring High School and China Spring TAG campuses maintain less than 1% drop out rate/GED certificates. The students remaining in high school more than four years after entering 9th grade are only those qualified in high-need self-contained settings. Problem Statements Identifying District Processes & Programs Needs Problem Statement 1: There is a lack of communication and understanding between gen ed and special education teachers.
