Overview – ICC Women’s World Cup 2021 Held every four years the ICC Women’s World Cup is the pinnacle of women’s cricket globally. New Zealand will host the 12th instalment of the tournament February 2021, its third time staging the event. In 2017 over 180 million people watched the tournament, a global audience that is set to further increase in 2021 with all matches to be broadcast live for the first time. The event is set to be the largest women’s sporting event held in New Zealand, and at the forefront of the growth of women’s sport and specifically women’s cricket globally. Purpose of the position – Chief Executive Officer The ICC Women’s World Cup is the pinnacle of women’s cricket globally and will be a catalyst for the continued growth in girls and women’s cricket in New Zealand. This role will be tasked with establishing and leading the Local Organising Committee (LOC) and working with the Tournament owner (the ICC) and NZC to ensure the success of the tournament and a sustainable legacy for the game in New Zealand. Reporting to a Board of NZC and Independent Directors the role will be the voice and champion for the Tournament and ultimately responsible for building a high-performing team that will oversee the planning, promotion and delivery of the tournament in accordance with the Host Agreement signed by NZC with ICC. You will be ultimately tasked with building the profile of the Tournament, winning the hearts and minds of fans and supporters, ensuring an outstanding fan experience, and leaving a lasting impact on girls and women’s cricket in New Zealand. The role will lead the team that will oversee and integrate a range of program areas including cricket operations, support services, technology, transport, travel and accommodation, venue operations, catering, security, logistics, overlay, protocol, broadcast liaison and team services. You will be comfortable being at the forefront of government, cricket network and fan engagement, have a passion for women’s sport, and an eye for detail that will ensure the highest level of event delivery. The role will establish strong relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and partners with a view of ensuring the best possible outcomes for all, and a tournament that reflects the status of the Tournament and enhances New Zealand’s standing as a leading major events destination. Accountabilities Strategy, Planning, Risk, Processes & Reporting • Set Host Event Objectives and KPIs and implement the necessary plans to see them fulfilled. • Lead development and oversee implementation of a Tournament Blueprint in conjunction with the ICC and NZC to ensure compliance with the Host Agreement, and ambitions and objectives of all parties. • Oversee city and venue planning across all Tournament Host Cities and Match Venues ensuring they are implemented in line with Tournament Requirements with a focus on resource efficiencies. • Ensure the appropriate tools and documentation including plans, cross program reviews, issue tracking/resolution, resource scoping and financial reports - are being developed and implemented in accordance with agreed scope and budgets. • Develop and manage the Tournament Venue Delivery Model to ensure the engagement and integration of all tournament delivery stakeholders. This includes ensuring best use of existing stakeholder resources throughout the planning and delivery process. • Ensure that relevant external stakeholders are being engaged and communicated with on a partnership basis and build a collaborative information sharing culture. • Oversee the effective planning of program areas as required to ensure relevant preparations are undertaken in line with Tournament requirements including strategies for maximising attendance at matches throughout the Event. • Lead the Tournament Risk Management Strategy. Ensure all risks, weaknesses, threats and opportunities are fully considered, mitigated or acted upon. • Provide regular reports to NZC and the ICC that give an understanding of progress, compliance with strategy, budget and timelines and highlight areas of concern, noncompliance, risk and opportunity. People and Culture • Demonstrate the values, ethos and integrity of the tournament through all actions and interactions. • Develop and update a Tournament resourcing plan for all areas Program Areas that is appropriately phased over the full life of the Tournament. • Build a high-performing Tournament Deliver Team to ensure the effective delivery of the tournament in line with the Hosting Agreement, and Host and Event Budget. • Proactively lead the Tournament, and Tournament delivery team, ensuring the Tournament forms a part of NZC and the wider culture. • Be a champion for diversity and inclusion. Promotion, Marketing and Media • Provide a key public face for the Tournament with a focus on generating awareness and buy-in to the Tournament. • Ensure a constant focus on winning the hearts and minds of all New Zealanders to support, attend and celebrate the Tournament. • Lead the development and implementation of integrated marketing plans with the ICC and NZC that drive engagement, interest, viewership and attendance of ICC Women’s World Cup 2021 matches. • Ensure appropriate communications, public relations and media processes and protocols are in place for the Tournament and key stakeholders. Event Impact and Legacy • Champion the broader impacts from the Tournament to leave a lasting legacy for New Zealand and Cricket. • Provide leadership that ensures that the Tournament maximise the long-term benefits to NZC and wider cricket network through improvements to the female cricket environment and increased interest and participation in women and girls cricket. • Work closely with central and local government to ensure business, community and tourism leveraging opportunities are identified and implemented in a co-operative manner. • Support the ICC in ensuring all obligations around CSR and community programmes are implemented as part of Tournament planning and delivery. Government Liaison • Represent NZC and the Tournament as a government liaison to support integrated operations and NZC Inc activities in a professional manner, reporting back effectively to internal stakeholders as required. Financial and Commercial • Meet operating budget for the project. • Lead major Tournament procurement streams ensuring maximum value to the tournament while ensuring delivery standards to required level, minimising any risk exposure for NZC and ICC. • Monitor effective use of resources to manage expenditure against budgets. • Manage financial procedures within relevant policy. • Plan, coordinate and compile relevant operational and capital budgets. • Ensure all ICC Commercial requirements are implemented in line with the Hosting Agreement. • Work with partners to ensure appropriate commercially clean venue requirements, and IP protections are in place for the ICC and Commercial Partners. Stakeholder Relationships • Manage ICC relationships ensuring all Host obligations are met in line with contractual obligations. • Development and ongoing management of a full life cycle strategy for the engagement and communication with stakeholders. • Implement strategy and be well respected by customers and partners, leveraged relationships effectively. • Functions foster a spirit of team work and cooperation across all delivery partners including ICC, NZC, venues, government, suppliers among others. Health and Safety • Comply with all workplace health and safety obligations by meeting the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act. This includes: ▪ following all reasonable health and safety rules and instructions; ▪ taking reasonable care for your own health and safety at work and the health and safety of others; ▪ taking reasonable care that your acts (or omissions) do not adversely affect the health and safety of yourself or others; ▪ co-operating with any reasonable policy or procedure from NZC, including wearing any necessary personal protective equipment and clothing; ▪ reporting any potential or actual risks, injuries, work-related illnesses and incidents (including near misses) so NZC can investigate, and eliminate or minimise harm or risk of harm. • Provide leadership and direction in matters relating to Health and Safety by understanding and implementing the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act, NZC and Tournament policy and procedures. • Ensure all delivery partners are aware of and understand NZC and Tournament Health & safety approach and that all stakeholders and delivery partners meet their Health and Safety obligations. • Ensuring team members understand, and comply with, any reasonable policy or procedure given by NZC or the ICC. • Ensuring team members participate in Health and Safety training, meetings and events when required. Required Professional Experience: • An understanding of event planning and operations on an international and/or domestic stage. • Proven success introducing innovative marketing and promotion initiatives to maximize performance of a business. • Experience in delivering complex projects to non-negotiable deadlines and tight financial constraints. • Proven experience and success in a leadership role in a complex stakeholder environment. • Experience in leading and building strong multi-functional teams. • Demonstrated experience in media and public relations. • An understanding of the internal workings of a sports organisation. • An understanding of fan engagement and customer centric planning and delivery.
