CANDIDATE INFORMATION PACK (Chief Executive Officer, Albury Wodonga Health) EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Albury Wodonga Health (AWH) was established on 1 July 2009 and is Australia’s only cross border health service. While classified as a Victorian regional health service, it is co-funded under an intergovernmental agreement between the respective Governments of New South Wales and Victoria. Employing close to 3000 staff with an additional 300 volunteers, the combined team provides a broad range of hospital, primary and community based services from 17 sites to a growing population of 250,000 living in the north east of Victoria and southern parts of New South Wales. Set in a spectacular natural landscape, with the twin cities of Albury and Wodonga nestled along the Murray River, the district enjoys strong population growth and a vibrant culture, making it a great place to live and work. It is conveniently located between Sydney and Melbourne with a 3 hour drive to Melbourne and 5 hour drive to Sydney or a quick flight from Albury Airport. In response to the region’s growing population encouragingly AWH has recently received investment from Government that will enable it to further develop its emergency, mental health, maternity and obstetrics services. Albury Wodonga Health (AWH) operates within the responsibility of the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services. AWH offers the sophistication of health services found in the metropolitan environment. Albury is located on the north side in New South Wales while Wodonga is located on the south bank in the state of Victoria. Albury-Wodonga is a growing, vibrant and tranquil destination and have a country atmosphere combined with a cosmopolitan feel. Rich in history and natural beauty, the welcoming community has a diverse culture, and many contemporary attractions. Albury Wodonga has award-winning restaurants, cafes and pubs, full of modern and sophisticated eateries and a thriving café culture and very close to many famous wineries. The region also caters for the more adventurous with attractions of boating, great cycling and hiking tracks. The alpine area around Albury Wodonga is also well known for ski fields. Cultural, arts and local industry are strong with activities including galleries, boutiques, regional produce, gardens, modern art and ancient indigenous culture. There is a thriving live music and theatre scene. Plus, Albury Wodonga is also home to Australia’s national youth circus: The Flying Fruit Circus is the only full- time circus school in Australia catering for young people 8-18 years of age. The climate in Albury Wodonga has the same number of sunny days as the Gold Coast, but without the humidity. Warm, dry summers, mild autumns and springs, and cool winters. Of these 48.6% were male and 51.4% were female. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people made up 2.7% of the population. The regional area of Albury Wodonga has a broader population of about 180,000. The median age of people in Albury - Wodonga (Significant Urban Areas) was 38 years. Children aged 0 - 14 years made up 19.5% of the population and people aged 65 years and over made up 16.7% of the population. Employment statistics at the time of the last census; for the region were 43,168 people who reported being in the labour force. Of these 56.5% were employed full time, 31.9% were employed part-time and 6.5% were unemployed. The median house price in Albury Wodonga is $342,000, School education in Albury Wodonga has 17 primary schools (10 public and 7 private)7 secondary schools (3 public and 4 private). Albury Wodonga in many senses the centre operates as one community, it has parallel municipal governments and state government services with the fact that it is divided between Victoria and New South Wales. However, the fact that Melbourne is significantly closer than Sydney and Victorian radio and television broadcasts in the region, resulting perhaps culturally and socially in the predominance of Victorian way of life. CANDIDATE INFORMATION PACK (Chief Executive Officer, Albury Wodonga Health) CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER POSITIONS PURPOSE The purpose of the Chief Executive Officer is to, under the direction of the Board, lead Albury Wodonga Health in providing a best-practice health service that is of high quality, cost-effective and responsive to government policy directions and community needs. The Chief Executive Officer will enable the Board to fulfil its governance function; and provide executive leadership, operational management and direction towards achievement of Albury Wodonga Health’s Purpose, Vision, Priorities, Objectives and Strategic Directions. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Chief Executive Officer’s (CEO’s) duties are to manage Albury Wodonga Health in accordance with the financial and business plans, strategies and budgets developed by the Board and the instructions of the Board. The CEO is responsible for the organisation’s day to day operational management. Including: Service Delivery, financial management and supporting a shared purpose and direction of results for Albury Wodonga Health. • Ensure that AWH continuously strives to improve the quality of the services it provides and to foster innovation, learning and professional growth; and to meet or exceed Accreditation Standards • Provide AWH with executive and strategic leadership and operational management. MANDATORY TRAINING: It is a condition of appointment that all employees complete mandatory e-learning modules prior to commencement. ANNEX 3 OCCUPATIONAL ASSESSMENT SCREENING AND VACCINATION INFORMATION Category A staff and other clinical personnel must be protected / screened against the following infectious diseases. Acceptable evidence of protection against specified infectious diseases includes a written record of vaccination signed by the provider and/or DISEASE serological confirmation of protection.
