Lynne Bryan Police Legatee Lynne Bryan shares her story of Santa in a very special way. In all our married life of 49 years and before, my late husband, Detective Sergeant Peter Bryan 14930, loved playing Santa! The club was heavily involved in the International Student Exchange Program. As a family, we hosted many students in our home. This soon extended into the Rotaract Club (18 plus years) where Peter was Santa with a Helper, visiting families who booked a home visit and contributed to the fundraising effort for the Cotton Wool Babies. This was repeated each Christmas. After Peter’s retirement from Victoria Police after 32 years, he became Santa in Aged Care Homes. This was just before and for a short time after 2011, when he was diagnosed with dementia. In that time, he even experienced the role at a local shopping centre for a couple of years. Tobin Bros. Funerals also asked him to visit Cardinal Knox Aged Care on their Sally Hearn behalf. They called him ‘Super Santa’ in appreciation of his many efforts. More recently I recall, as his dementia increased in our membership of Probus, he wanted to dress up (shirt and cap sufficed) and stand at the door as members arrived for the Christmas Luncheon just to greet them! Of course, there were family occasions when Santa shone. 2015 stands out as our family were over from Perth for Christmas. Another year stands out when we were with our extended family who enjoyed the fun Santa provided. So many guess that through his life he always gave to the community in various capacities and through several organisations.
