CAPITAL ONE ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA® TEAM SELECTED BY COSIDA FOR RELEASE: Tuesday, November 25 – 12 noon (EDT) Please visit the Capital One Academic All-America® website http://www.capitaloneacademicallamerica.com/ STEPHANIE VERDOIA OF SEATTLE, ANDY BEVIN OF WEST VIRGINIA HEADLINE CAPITAL ONE ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA® DIVISION I SOCCER TEAMS AUSTIN, Texas–Senior forwards Stephanie Verdoia of Seattle University and Andy Bevin of Western Virginia University headline the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I soccer teams as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Verdoia has been selected as the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year for Division I Women’s Soccer while Bevin has been named the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year for Division I Men’s Soccer. A political science major with a 3.96 G.P.A., Verdoia was a third team Capital One Academic All-America® last year. The Salt Lake City, Utah native earned her second consecutive Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year honor after leading the conference in nearly every offensive category including goals, points, shots, assists, and game-winning goals. Verdoia became Seattle U’s all-time leader in goals and points when she netted a hat trick on Senior Day. Verdoia was a top 10 finalist for Senior CLASS Award and the Disney Soccer/NSCAA Women’s Soccer DI Player of the Week (Sep. 29-Oct. 5). Verdoia was the WAC Tournament MVP after leading the Redhawks to the championship with an aggregate 12-0 score. Her goal in the WAC title game set a new school single-season record. She has led Seattle to a 15-4-2 record and also scored a goal in their opening round NCAA tournament win over Washington State. Verdoia has 22 goals and 13 assists heading into their NCAA second round match against South Carolina. As a junior, Verdoia had 15 goals, 12 assists and five game-winning goals. She won the WAC’s Joe Kearney Award, annually awarded to the top male and female student-athletes, and was also named to the NSCAA All- West Region second team. Verdoia has tallied 51 goals and 30 assists in her career. Bevin, a management information systems major with a 3.93 G.P.A., is a two-time first team Capital One Academic All-America® selection. The Napier, New Zealand native was named the 2014 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year after leading the MAC with 34 points on 13 goals and eight assists. Bevin has led the Mountaineers to an 11-7-1 record and will finish his career ranked in WVU’s top-10 in goals, assists and points. He recently scored his first career hat-trick and is one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award. Bevin earned All-MAC first team honors in 2013 and second team honors in 2012 while nabbed NSCAA All- Great Lakes Region second team honors last year. In each case, he was on the Academic All-MAC first team. In 2011, he was the Big East Rookie of the Year, All-Big East third team, NSCAA All-Northeast Region second team, ECAC Rookie of the Year and a member of the CollegeSoccerNews All- Freshman Team. Bevin has 31 goals and 19 assists in his career, and ranks third all-time in assists, fifth in points and seventh in goals at WVU.
Verdoia, Bevin Lead Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Soccer Teams – Page 2 Capital One Academic All-America® Women’s Soccer Division I Team Sixteen of the 33 members of the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA Division I women’s soccer teams have at least a 3.90 G.P.A., with six student-athletes sporting a perfect 4.00 G.P.A. The 11 members of the first team have an average G.P.A. of 3.75. LaSalle University senior forward Kelsey Haycook was a second team choice last season and moved up to the first team in 2014. She led the Explorers to a 14-6-2 record and an NCAA tournament appearance by tallying 20 goals and three assists. A nutrition major with a 3.79 G.P.A., the Point Pleasant, N.J., native has 60 goals and 22 assists in her career. The Capital One Academic All-America® first team includes three student-athletes with a perfect 4.0 G.P.A. in University of Maryland, Baltimore County junior defender Nikki Boretti, University of Alabama senior midfielder Merel van Dongen and South Dakota State University junior forward Diana Potterveld. The first team goalkeeper is University of South Carolina senior Sabrina D’Angelo and other three defenders are UCLA senior Ally Courtnall, Texas Tech University senior Jaelene Hinkle and DePaul University senior Rachel Pitman. Texas A&M University senior Shea Groom and UCLA senior Samantha Mewis are a pair of midfielders that round out the first team. The 11-member Capital One Academic All-America® second team features a pair of student-athletes with a perfect 4.0 G.P.A. in Oral Roberts University junior defender Kaily Cox and Clemson University senior midfielder Katelyn Reeve. Stephen F. Austin State University senior Morgan Glick is the second team goalkeeper. In addition to Cox, the other three defenders are Belmont University senior Alison Alcott, West Virginia junior Carly Black and Eastern Michigan University senior Emily Dzik. Rider University junior Tara Ballay and University of Virginia senior Danielle Colaprico are second team midfielders. Morehead State University senior Jade Flory, Alabama senior Laura Lee Smith and Stanford University senior Taylor Uhl are the three forwards. University of Kentucky senior midfielder Stuart Pope is a Capital One Academic All-America® third team selection for a second straight season. Northeastern University sophomore defender Mackenzie Dowd is the lone member of the third team with a perfect 4.0 G.P.A. Joining Dowd as defenders on the third team are University of Hartford junior Emma Donnelly, University of South Carolina senior Taylor Leach and Longwood University senior Kelsey McDonald. In addition to Pope, Manhattan College senior Aislinn McIlvenny and Virginia Tech University senior Katie Yensen make up the midfield. University of Arkansas junior Ashleigh Ellenwood, Illinois State University senior Rachel Tejada and DePaul junior Elise Wyatt make up the three forwards. University of Washington junior goalkeeper Megan Kufeld is the final member of the third team. Capital One Academic All-America® Men’s Soccer Division I Team Eight other seniors join Bevin as first team Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Men’s Soccer team members, including Radford University midfielder Stephen Hudgens who has a perfect 4.0 G.P.A. in finance and accounting. Marquette University goalkeeper Charlie Lyon, Butler University defender Brandon Fricke, Michigan State University defender Ryan Keener, South Carolina defender Braeden Troyer, Duke University midfielder Sean Davis, Dartmouth College forward Hugh Danilack and University of Massachusetts forward Josh Schwartz are the remaining seniors. The last two members of the first team are University of North Carolina junior defender Jonathan Campbell and Notre Dame University junior midfielder Patrick Hodan. Lyon and Bevin are both repeat Capital One Academic All-America® first team selections. Lyon is a biomedical science major with a 3.89 G.P.A. and is a native of St. Charles, Ill. He was the 2013-14 Big East Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the 2013 Big East Co-Goalkeeper of the Year.

Schwartz is a biology major from Annapolis, Md., and sports a 3.95 G.P.A., and led UMass with five goals and five assists. Fricke, a Grimes, Iowa native with a 3.98 G.P.A. in ecomonics and mechanical engineering, led a Butler defense that recorded seven shutouts. Hodan was a third team selection last year for Notre Dame. The Brookfield, Wis., native has a 3.93 G.P.A. in finance. He is the leading scorer for an Irish team ranked No. 2 in the nation heading into the NCAA tournament. The 11 members of the Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Men’s Soccer first team have an average G.P.A. of 3.94 with nine members sporting at least a 3.90 G.P.A. The Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Men’s Soccer second team has four student-athletes with at least a 4.0 G.P.A. in Northern Illinois University senior defender Dusty Page, University of Tulsa senior defender Quinn Starker, University of New Mexico junior midfielder Josh Dye and University of South Carolina Upstate junior midfielder Marvin Schmiege. The rest of the second team is comprised of Louisville University senior goalkeeper Joachim Ball, UNLV senior defender Kyle Mellies, Mercer University senior defender Ashani Samuels, University of Detroit Mercy senior midfielder Matt Ybarra, Bowling Green State University sophomore forward Pat Flynn, Long Island University Brooklyn senior forward Brice Merwine and Princeton University senior forward Cameron Porter. The Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Men’s Soccer third team includes University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee senior midfielder Laurie Bell and UAB senior defender Ian Michalak who are repeat honorees. Bell was a Capital One Academic All-America® first team selection in 2013, while Michalak was a Capital One Academic All-America® second team selection in 2013. Cornell University senior midfielder Tyler Conway and West Virginia sophomore defender Jack Elliott are the two members of the third team with perfect 4.0 G.P.A.’s. The remaining members of the Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Men’s Soccer third team are Boston University senior goalkeeper Nick Thomson, Notre Dame senior defender Luke Mishu, University of San Diego senior defender Julian Ringhof, American University senior defender Jake Weinreb, University of Delaware junior midfielder Ben Sampson, Creighton University sophomore forward Fabian Herbers, University of the Incarnate Word junior forward Dylan Kelly and Bucknell University junior forward Jesse Klug.
