You have been in CNA-Q for 15 years or more. What
does the College mean to you?
CNA-Q has been my home for 16 years. The people
here are like family. I have so many wonderful memories
with my friends and colleagues since starting with
the College in 2005. Thankfully, I get to share this
experience with my mother who worked at the College
for nearly 10 years. We both consider our time here in Jennifer Strickland

What’s the biggest challenge you faced during your
   tenure?
Change, which can be hard when you’ve been here a
long time. I always try to remember that the College has
been in a state of evolution since it opened its doors in
2002. Change is natural and appropriately chaotic at
times. I find that in these moments I gain insight and
grow from the experience. I’ve also learned how to block I am truly

What do you find unique in the Qatari Culture?
The importance of building relationships is highly
emphasized here in Qatar. Employees at the College
work hard to maintain respectful relationships with
colleagues and students. We care about each other and
do our best to help those in need. It’s hard for me to walk

Our College is turning very soon into a National Applied
University. How do you feel about this?
I feel that this is the natural progression for our
institution; it meets local needs and our desire to grow.
I feel that the College has a strong foundation to evolve
into a university. I know that we can build a world-class
university with our knowledgeable and professional
faculty, staff and quality programs. Exciting times!

You are soon leaving CNA-Q, What message would you
like to convey to the College Community?
I am incredibly appreciative of everything the College
has given me. There is so much opportunity to grow
here professionally. I started as a Lab Instructor and
I’m leaving as a Chair. It’s because of all the support I
have been given by Colleagues, Managers and Deans.
They gave me a chance to plan events, participate in
decision-making, take on research projects, and make
contributions to College initiatives. All of that experience
I will take with me to my new job. I don’t think a simple
 “thank you” is sufficient.

I will miss my incredible co-workers at the School of
Health Sciences. I enjoy the daily chats, rants, and Jennifer with Dr. Salem Al-Naemi

to acknowledge my fellow Chairs and the College
scheduling team. The amount of effort they put into
the daily operations of this College is staggering. I am
truly blessed to have worked with such professional and
talented group from whom I have learned so much.

You have been in CNA-Q for 15 years or more. What

CNA-Q is the reason why my family and I moved to
Qatar, and I feel so very fortunate to have been part of

INTERVIEW

What do you find unique in the Qatari Culture?
More than unique, what I find interesting about Qatari
culture is the numerous similarities it has to the culture
in my home province on NL, Canada. While the land
mass and population are much different, there are still
many small villages in Qatar that are now abandoned as
its inhabitants have moved to bigger villages or cities,
much the same as the resettlement that has taken place
in NL. (For comparison, the land mass of NL is about 35
times larger than Qatar, but the population of Qatar is
approximately 5 times that of NL.) The importance of
family and pride in their country are also areas where
                                                                               Michele with Dr. Salem Al-Naemi
our two cultures are incredibly similar. I only wish NL

It is certainly an exciting time for College of the North

Technology. CNA-Q is nearing its 20th year in Doha,
so I feel that becoming a National Applied University graduation of
is a natural step in the progression of the vocational
education we embody at CNA-Q. It has been a pleasure
                                                                               more than 7000

at the 2020 Academic Award Ceremony

What are your plans after graduation?
I am planning to pursue my bachelor’s degree in Human
Resource Management at CNA-Q. It will help me build
on my knowledge and develop more skills in this area.

Tell us about your online learning experience?
The pandemic affected my learning so much. I was
used to taking on-campus courses and interacting
face to face with instructors and fellow students. It
was definitely challenging to adjust to online learning
in the beginning, but my instructors did a fantastic job
coming up with alternatives to physical classes and
ways to make the online experience as interactive and
enjoyable as possible. During this transition phase,
I learned how to study more effectively at home, use
multiple technological tools, and most importantly,
adapt and be flexible during unexpected and uncertain
   times like these.

What is the message you would like to deliver to all
   students at CNA-Q?
To all the current and upcoming students at CNA-Q,
remember to always believe in yourself. No matter how
hard the journey gets, you will make it because you are
much stronger than you think. I would advise you all to
volunteer and enroll in as many extracurricular activities
as possible. They will help you acquire many valuable
skills even if they are outside your program of study. Do
not take for granted the classes even if they seem hard
for now. Always say yes to new opportunities, even if you Volunteering for Al-Zubarah Beach Cleanup as
