CALL FOR PROPOSALS 2016-2018 “FONDATION ARTHRITIS & CLARINS WORLDWIDE 2016” Submission deadline January 14th, 2016: 12.00 pm The “FONDATION ARTHRITIS & CLARINS WORLDWIDE 2016 CALL” is totally independent from the “Appel d’Offres 2016” of the “Fondation Arthritis”. An applicant may fulfill an application form for both programs as long as she/he meets the eligibility criteria and the admissibility criteria for each specific program. Fondation Arthritis often funded studies on genetics of rheumatisms. But environmental factors have also a real impact on these diseases: so it is interesting to better understand their mechanisms of action. For the first time, Fondation ARTHRITIS will launch an international call for proposals, co- funded and supported by CLARINS and all its subsidiaries worldwide. !! Focus of the Call •!The project will involve a consortium of 2 or maximum 3 academic research laboratories, preferentially including a non-French (preferentially European) laboratory. The consortium will submit a common project proposal with a researcher or teacher-researcher acting as coordinator(1) of the project. The coordinator will be French. •!This Call for Proposals aims to accelerate research on inflammatory rheumatic diseases. •!This Call for Proposals will specifically emphasize on the following area « Impact of environment on inflammatory rheumatic diseases (eg: food, sport, pollution, drugs, microbiota, …). The final goal, clearly identified, is to impact the patient’s life by any type of results. Ideally, the project should complement the published epidemiological data with in vitro experimental results. In order to restrict the use of animals, such models can be evoked as validation tools but no funding for this part will be allowed.! •!Concrete results are expected. They will be annually presented for the following of the project. The aim will be to communicate annually to the general population in order to involve it in the project’s funding. Expectations of the Fondation Arthritis at 3 years are to « identify or confirm the role or the importance of an environmental factor on one or several inflammatory rheumatic diseases ». •!Indicative total funding from Fondation Arthritis is € 800 000 (including taxes) for a period of three years. Complementary funding already obtained or requested by the researchers, would be appreciated. The total budget of the project could reach 1 to 1.5 M€ (including taxes). •!Duration of the project: 36 months. •!The grant must be exclusively used to finance the presented and selected project, including: - The operating costs (consumables, reagents, media, etc ...) - Equipment - Mission expenses related to the project (travels, congress fees,…) - Human resources (2) •!Collaborations on the project with additional national or international researchers are possible but these researchers will not be funded. •!All eligible proposals will be evaluated and scored by a European jury appointed in partnership with Clarins to establish a ranking order. !! •!A single project will be funded. Eligibility criteria •!The project will involve a consortium of at least 2 and maximum 3 academic research groups lead by a French Institution (Inserm, CNRS, INRA, Institut Pasteur, Universités, …) and including preferentially a non-French Laboratory, preferentially from Europe. •!All participating French research groups must have been favorably evaluated by HCERES and created by their Institution or selected through another national assessment (eg. Atip/Avenir). •!The consortium will submit one common project proposal introducing all partners with their specific role in the project. One researcher or teacher-researcher acting as the coordinator(1) of the project. The coordinator will mandatory be French. •!At least half of the research groups involved in the project must have been actively involved in the field of rheumatology research in the past 4 years. •!Co-financing of the project (public) is possible under the following conditions: - The maximum amount of co-financing will be € 700,000 (including taxes) - The co-financing needs to be requested or acquired before the evaluation of the project by the jury. •!The duration of the project must be 3 years. Admissibility Criteria •!Late applications and applications not fulfilling specific requirements of the Call for Proposals will not be considered. •!The application must be submitted in English. •!One academic research laboratory is authorized to participate only to one project proposal in response to this Call. !! •! Submission: one-stage procedure: submission of the full proposal. •! Submission deadline : January 14h, 2016. •! Electronic submission of the proposal and documents is mandatory via the specific page on the ARTHRITIS Fondation COURTIN web site: http://application.fondation- arthritis.org/AAP Project monitoring •!A contract will be signed at the start of the project between the partners and ARTHRITIS Fondation COURTIN. The funded project will be monitored by ARTHRITIS Fondation COURTIN during its runtime. This monitoring includes: - An annual scientific activity report allowing the progress of the project to be appreciated. It will be mandatory to also deliver a summary containing an understandable message for the general population (excluding animal models) - A final scientific report corresponding to the end of the project, with also an understandable message for the general population - A financial report (with supporting documents) will be requested at the end of the first year, then every 6 months for the last 2 years. •!The funding will be allocated to the partners for an initial part at the signature of the contract, and then each year after validation of the reporting by ARTHRITIS Fondation COURTIN. •!According to ARTHRITIS Fondation COURTIN’s policy, the project coordinator will present advancement of the project at each Annual Day (Journée Jacques Courtin) during the 3 years of funding. •!The teams funded by ARTHRITIS Fondation COURTIN formally undertake to acknowledge the support of ARTHRITIS Fondation COURTIN for the specific project in any written (memory, poster, publication ...) or oral communication (seminar, conferences ...). •!Copies of publications should be addressed to the Département Scientifique of ARTHRITIS Fondation COURTIN. !! Please note Proposals not meeting the eligibility criteria, the admissibility criteria and the criteria of relevance to the call will be declined without further review. (2) Conditions for the financing of temporary staff: temporary staff (doctoral students, residents, post-docs,...) can be assigned to the project. The funding of the temporary staff for this project shall not exceed the duration of the project. ARTHRITIS Foundation COURTIN will not be the employer of the temporary staff.
