THE TICKETING BUSINESS FORUM 2018

Tuesday 17 April 2018

CONFERENCE SESSIONS
Venue: The Point, Emirates Old Trafford
08.00 Registration and Coffee in The Marketplace – with thanks to
09.00 Welcome to your sixth annual TheTicketingBusiness Forum
                 • Ian Nuttall, Co-Founder, TheTicketingBusiness, UK
                  • Gareth Deakin, Head Honcho, OA Consulting, UK

PLENARY INTERNATIONAL INDUSTRY INSIGHTS
Our opening keynote speakers set the tone and lead the agenda for the Forum. We’ll showcase the
exponential growth of online ticketing in India, lift the lid on ‘ticketing psychographics’ of European
audiences, and examine the fan experience at North America’s leading visitor attractions.

09.15 HERE’S A BIG IDEA Every Industry Should Have One...
We are all a part of the same eco-system. Sometimes we compete, but for
the most part we play on the same team. Our agendas are aligned. but to
create a flourishing industry we need to start sharing.

09.30 GLOBAL OPPORTUNITIES 10 Million Tickets a Month... and Rising!
There are big opportunities across the ticketing landscape and they don’t come much
bigger than the entertainment market in India. One company has seized this opportunity
and is riding high on its ticketing platform with integrations across the sub-continent into
restaurant and travel bookings – with more to come. Bigtree Entertainment is India's
premiere comprehensive ticketing, information and analysis solutions provider. If you don’t
earn money, it’s not dhanda! We are delighted to welcome to the Forum:
                  • Anil Makhija, Head of Service Delivery, Bigtree Entertainment/BookMyShow, India

09.55 DATA INSIGHTS Deep Strategic Insights to Illuminate Your Ticketing Business
Ticketing systems’ rich data sources can reveal subtle patterns of behaviour among our
patrons, but what else is needed if we wish to influence future activity? Jo will show how
powerful psychographics can help us orchestrate greater value from our databases and
drive the shift from customer transactions to relationships.
                  • Jo Taylor, Director, Morris Hargreaves McIntyre, UK

10.20 VISITOR ENGAGEMENT Beyond the Ticket: Enhancing the Event Experience
We’ll explore how festivals and theme parks are enhancing the customer event
experience using tech, apps and engagement. Leading organisations are developing
technology tools to create ‘customer experience engines’ which can analyse visitor
behaviour, hoover up data and produce better targeted offerings in real-time. Of course,
it all starts with the ticket and then continues to the next one.
                  • Eric Petrusic, CTO, accesso, USA
                                                                                  Collect your

FORUM DEBATE THE (MULTI)CHANNEL TUNNEL: A ROAD TO NOWHERE?
11.45 Many rightsholders are moving away from exclusive, single distributor
deals and embracing the multi-channel route to retailing tickets. We’ve
seen Major League Soccer embrace an API-based model where the
league’s clubs can sell their tickets anywhere and at anytime – with all
the data flowing back to the teams and league. The risks are greater, but
the rewards greater still. But we’ve also seen Amazon come unstuck in its
quest for inventory, despite its offer to remove some of the industry’s key
pain points (such as booking fees). What kind of deals are working and
what needs to change? What can we learn from the wider world of
                 online retail and digital transformations?

                 We welcome our panellists:
                    • Daniel Gidney, Chief Executive, Lancashire Cricket Club and Emirates Old Trafford, UK
                    • Carolyn Sims, Marketing Director, English National Opera, UK

 SPORTS & STADIUM TICKETING #1
We drill down into some of the key issues in sports ticketing and showcase new solutions and
emerging best practices. Hosted by our expert moderator:
            • Paul Williamson, Managing Director, Sports Ink Associates, UK

14.45 CHANGES The Evolving Landscape for Sports Ticketing
The level and method of interaction between sports fan and club is undergoing radical
reconfiguration. The era of once-a-year season ticket renewals has been replaced with an
e-commerce approach encompassing on-demand offers and flexible ticketing packages
with a range of segmented products. How does a cricket club – with long established
approaches to ticket sales and member communications – transition to this digital-first
era? Beyond cricket, the demands of a multi-use venue which hosts other sports,
international concerts, conferences and non-matchday events have required that the team
at Emirates Old Trafford re-evaluate its approach to ticketing, e-commerce and data.
        Outlining their journey to date:
            • Justin Hopwood, Sales & Marketing Director, Lancashire Cricket Club/Emirates Old Trafford
            • Jonathon Nuttall, Head of Cricket Sales, Lancashire Cricket Club/Emirates Old Trafford

15.10 SYSTEM MIGRATION Phases of Play
Anyone who has been through a ticketing system migration has a story to tell. Adopting a
new ticketing system involves more than a change of technology. The technology is often the
least challenging aspect, as new system requirements and tools will invariably impact how
people work. Having a phased approach to migration provides the opportunity to minimise
risk whilst allowing time for adoption, education and skills transfers. Change management
        and user adoption can be enhanced through various activities including: feedback sessions;
early immersion in training, a test lab, user acceptance test, and onsite coaching.
            • Richard Hilton, Head of Customer Success, SecuTix, UK
            • Jonathon Nuttall, Head of Cricket Sales, Lancashire Cricket Club/Emirates Old Trafford

15.35 NO OFF-SEASON Success Brings Challenges
We round off our first sports session with a look into one of the most successful Danish
football clubs: FC København of Copenhagen. Only 25 years old, the club has been a leader
in its home market. Playing at the 38,000-capacity Telia Parken national stadium offers lots
of inventory but brings challenges on those long winter nights with less glamorous fixtures
and lower ticket prices overall. Season ticket base has been growing year on year and the
club has had great success with its family stand. Today season ticket sales continue on a
rolling basis – there’s no off-season for the marketing team. Down the line, CRM is being
evaluated but more immediately the sales and marketing team are looking into data insight
        tools and data warehousing.

ADVENTURES IN BLOCKCHAIN EXPLORING THE POSSIBILITIES
Blockchain promises key improvements, efficiencies and more security in how we sell, distribute and
utilise tickets. Often misunderstood but there’s an increasingly positive outlook about the rise of
blockchain. But, are we possibly blinkered to its limitations and problems? Through the latest case

     CONSUMER ISSUES LEGAL MATTERS
The power of the consumer has never been greater and the issues around ticketing never more

PANEL DISCUSSION THE BUSINESS OF TICKETING
FROM WALLED GARDEN TO OPEN FIELD
What value do we put on ticketing businesses in such a dynamic climate? Traditional ticketing
companies have developed by buying the rights for long contracts with sign-on fees. This led to
recurring revenues and growing EBITDA’s. Multiple xREV and xEBITDA have been the traditional
valuation methodology. Open-API distribution platforms typically do not offer sign-on fees or long
contracts – and are valued across customer lifetime valuations (like other SaaS businesses). The
emergence of Silicon Valley and VC/Private Equity money is changing the game. The appetite for
Mergers and Acquisitions is stronger than ever. We’ll discuss some of the key business drivers in our
sector and the impact of new entrants on existing business models. Panellists include:
