Bursary Provider List 2019 The study funds of every registered and prospective student of the institution are the responsibility of the individual student. The institution will not enter into funding agreements or negotiations for funding on behalf of prospective students. AFDA helps registered students of the institution get onto possible funding lists of a few funders who prefer to work though the institution. This is also subject to the availability of funders, as well as the current student meeting set criteria.
Mandela Rhodes Foundation Scholarship South Africa ABOUT THE COMPANY – THE MANDELA RHODES FOUNDATION The Mandela Rhodes Foundation was founded in 2002 with the goal of developing the leadership capacity in Africa, by way of its programmes, as well as aiming to become the African leader in its intent. The foundations relies of 4 major principles – Education, Entrepreneurship, Leadership and Reconciliation ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME The Mandela Rhodes Scholarship programme, administered by the Mandela Rhodes Foundation, is named after 2 men – Nelson Mandela and Cecil Rhodes. The scholarship comprises of 2 parts – financial funding for postgraduate studies and a leadership development programme. The funding component is for postgraduate studies at a South African tertiary institution, whereby students will receive full funding (Honours students for a maximum duration of 1 year and Masters students for a maximum duration of 2 years). The leadership development programme component aims to develop the leadership capacity in Africa, and is made up of 3 components (mentoring, 3 regional group pods and 3 residential workshops). MORE ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE & SELECTION PROCESS The scholarship provides coverage for the following expenses: registration fees and tuition fees, as well as an allowance for meals, accommodation, study materials, medical aid, personal allowance and an allowance for economy-class travel for international students (from their home to the institution at the start and end of their studies). The scholarship selection process will include the following steps: 1) Applications will be reviewed by the Mandela Rhodes Foundation and by South African tertiary institutions. Students will receive feedback whether their applications will proceed to the following stage by 30 June 2019. 2) Applications will be reviewed by selected Mandela Rhodes Foundation staff. Students will receive feedback whether their applications will proceed to the following stage by 31 July 2019. 3) Applications will be reviewed again by selected Mandela Rhodes Foundation staff. Students will receive feedback whether their applications will proceed to the following stage by 31 August 2019. 4) Panel interviews will be conducted with shortlisted candidates and the selection committees during October. 5) Students who attended panel interviews will receive feedback whether their applications have been selected by 31 October 2019. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered): Citizen of ANY African country Will be between 19 to 30 years old when undertaking on scholarship studies In possession of a degree qualification (or equivalent) OR will have completed one by 31 January 2019 Studying or intend on studying full time towards a postgraduate (Honours/ Masters) qualification at a recognised South African tertiary institute Good academic record Willing and able to attend all leadership development programme compulsory elements (may take place on weekends or during the week) Committed to the following principles – Education, Entrepreneurship, Leadership and Reconciliation

THE RYAN DOUGLAS POOLE AFDA SCHOLARSHIP Producing or Directing students applying for or undertaking a Postgraduate degree in Motion Picture are eligible for selection for this Scholarship. Candidates are identified by AFDA and one student is chosen per year by the Selection Panel. The Scholarship will be awarded for one year Honours tuition only. Contact: Nicole Anthony Student Affairs Officer nicolea@afda.co.za / 011 482 8345 National Film & Video Foundation (NFVF) International Bursary ABOUT THE COMPANY – NFVF The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) was formed in order to ensure substantial growth of the film and video industry in South Africa, by providing funding for the development and training of filmmakers, as well as for producing, developing, distribution and marketing of films The NFVF is a statutory body and an agency of the Department of Arts and Culture. The main objectives of the NFVF are to: increase the accessibility of South African films; to increase the amount of films in South Africa and the amount of producers for previously disadvantaged backgrounds; to increase the amount of training within the film industry and in scarce skills areas; to locally and internationally promote the film industry of South Africa. ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & COVERAGE VALUE The bursary programme offered by the NFVF aims to upskill film and TV professionals, to ensure competitiveness in the global market. The bursary is for International Postgraduate studies in Film and TV. The selected film course must NOT be available for study in South Africa (this bursary excludes Acting and Live Performance programmes). The bursary will NOT cover 100% of all study expenses – the bursary will be awarded to a maximum value of R250 000 (which includes tuition fees and living expenses). South African Institute of Race Relations Bursary ABOUT THE BURSAR The South African Institute of Race Relations (IRR) was established in 1933, with the core focus on developing social and economic conditions to influence policy decision makers. The IRR have been funding financially needing students since 1935, and since 1980 have awarded over R220 million in bursary funding. The late Nelson Mandela was one of the lucky bursary recipients. ABOUT THE BURSARY Bursaries will be awarded to students in various fields of study, who are studying towards a degree or diploma qualification. Please note that postgraduate and Honours funding is not currently available. Mick Leary Educational Trust Bursary ABOUT THE BURSAR Epilepsy South Africa, formerly known as “South African National Epilepsy League (SANEL)” is the only NPO within South Africa that assists people with epilepsy and other disabilities, by helping them gain the skills and knowledge to work in the labour market. Because of the prejudice towards people with epilepsy within the work force, they often find it extremely challenging to find employment. As a result, Epilepsy South Africa created the Mick Leary Educational Trust. Professor Mick Leary was a former Epilepsy South Africa Chairperson, epilepsy expert and Paediatric Neurologist. The aim of the Trust is to help give people with epilepsy a chance to further their studies and gain the skills they need to enter the labour market. ABOUT THE BURSARY The bursary programme is intended for students with epilepsy, who have been accepted to study at a tertiary institution. The bursary covers all fields of study, but would like to encourage students to follow a career in which they are interested in and for which there is great demand in the South African labour market. National Arts Council of SA Bursary ABOUT THE COMPANY – NAC The National Arts Council of South Africa (NAC) was established via an act of parliament in 1997 with the aim of promoting the free expression of cultures in South Africa, though arts. Managed by the South African Department of Arts and Culture, the NAC are responsible for the countries creative industry development, by way of grant awards in the arts faculty. The Council is one of the major funding bodies for artists in the country. South African Islamic Foundation Bursary Fund ABOUT THE BURSAR The South African Islamic Foundation (SAIF) is aimed at the education and development of Muslim South Africans from disadvantaged communities. Department of Military Veterans Bursary ABOUT THE BURSAR The Department of Military Veterans is the governmental department in South Africa responsible for providing South African military veterans with support and services. The current political head of the department is Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula – the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans. Postgraduates Canon Collins Trust Scholarship Canon Collins Trust offers financial assistance to qualified who wish to pursue a postgraduate qualification and who have the interest to contribute to South Africa’s social justice in order to form a better society. Both full time and part time students are encouraged to apply, as well as considerations may be given to applicants who wish to study through distance learning. Currently, the scholarship grants support for the following study areas: 1. Justice: Law, Economics, Politics and the Environment 2. Education: Policy and Practice 3.
