Y O U T H & E D U C AT I O N Enrollment Now Open for Shirlee Green Preschool and Camp Micah By Brandi Cartwright bcartwright@sestl.org “Every day is a journey and the journey itself is home.” Matsuo Basho, Japanese poet H ow can I give advice about going on a journey? First, accept the challenge. Then, commit fully with your heart, hands, and mind. Once you’re all in, recruit fellow adventurers to travel with you along the way. Don’t stop until your heart is full. This is the advice we offer the children of Shirlee Green Preschool and the actions we model as teachers of young citizens. For a young child at Shirlee Green Preschool, our small school is an adventure. Often exciting and diverting, filled with pleasure and amusement and unknown forks in the road, adventure is taken up by the children and shared by the teachers. Day in and day out, each adventure adds to the stories we tell each other of how we learned and played and taught at SGP. And the children have embarked on so many grand pursuits. In 2022, SGP kiddos began creating their very own museum, built an ice cream truck and “sold” their homemade ice cream to friends and parents, a new recipe for rainbow challah with sprinkles was created, a kid-made play was written and sets and props were completed, and the pre-kindergarteners organized their own Shabbat observances and invited their families. Every year at Shirlee Green Preschool is a remarkable journey and you’re invited to join us! With field trips all around town, quirky and inspiring kid-made projects by our young solutionaries, and master teachers, Shirlee Green Preschool is a unique treasure for the young children of St. Louis and surrounding communities. SGP is an inclusive, diverse preschool that welcomes young learners of every background and enrollment is now open for little ones ages 6 weeks – 5 years old. Get a sneak peek at all fun. Schedule a tour and to begin enrolling for summer camp and the 2023-24 school year, contact Kayla at kadams@sestl.org. Enrollment open while spaces last. 10 • BULLETIN • JANUARY • 2023
