Kyoto University about us scholars are invited to apply for fellowships to do research related to African Studies at Kyoto’s Application and contact partner institutes in Africa and vice versa. details The program will exist alongside our current fellowship program which offers fellowships to Europeans and Japanese who want to do research in Japan and Europe respectively. As well as welcoming our Alumni Fellows in Warsaw, Poland from East Europe, we were honoured that Alumni Canon Foundation Fellow Prof. Katarzyna J. Cwiertka agreed to give introducing a lecture entitled Branding Japan: the Global and the Local. the canon foundation in europe | bulletin 2018 the joyful ‘side effects’ of visual research by astrid engl interactive contents panel (2018 canon foundation fellow) A quite unexpected but promising outcome of my research stay in Japan is that I developed an enthusiastic passion for Japanese vintage toys, particularly for Hiragana blocks frontpage (tsumiki). Originally purchased as a learning tool to improve my Hiragana skills, I quickly got excited about the beautiful japan-africa design. My collection now includes several sets from different exchange program decades which I purchased at flea markets or online auctions.
