Thank you! Thank you for giving life to your beautiful miracle. Thank you for having courage to go through with your pregnancy and considering adoption. We really appreciate the time you're taking to read our story and considering our family to be your sweet miracle's extra family. We promise to love and cherish them as they grow into the person they’re designed to be!
A snapshot of us! Everything we do is rooted in our faith! Loving God is the foundation of our decisions and identity. We attend church and a small group weekly. Nightly we pray for our family and your child. Your child would grow up knowing the Lord's love for them and how to show grace in every situation that comes their way.
We love playing games! Our favorite game right now is "Trouble." We both played it growing up and have more fun playing it now than we did as kids! Your child will grow up playing games and seeing the beauty in just enjoying time with friends and families. Brittany's parents live right around the corner from our house. They have planned many special days with our foster kids over the years such as painting, planting a fairy garden and going to the zoo. With our current foster child, they just did back to school shopping and a half birthday celebration to end the summer off on a high note. Your child would also create fun memories and traditions special to them.
our story We met through Stephen’s sister. Brittany worked with her and she kept nudging him to reach out. Because we lived about 6 hours apart, it took Stephen about a year to reach out - and of course it was through Facebook messenger. The first time Stephen met Brittany's family, Brittany's dad started talking in a Norwegian accent. Stephen was so thrown off that he looked at Brittany like 'why didn't you tell me?' Everyone started laughing and Stephen realized it was all a joke. We've been married for over 4 years and live close to our family, with our fluffer - Bentley . We have been foster parents for the past few years and are ready to have our own family. Since we were dating, we have wanted adoption to be a part of our family and are so excited to finally be ready for this new journey. Your child would always have other people in their life that have went through similar experiences. Your child will grow up knowing as much of their family history that you'd want them to know. We will make sure to send pictures and updates as your child grows, if you are comfortable with this.
fun times We love the outdoors! Being outside is our favorite pastime. We just went on a hike in our state park to see a beautiful waterfall and finished the afternoon with a picnic - turkey sandwiches and fruit. Bentley also loves to hike and jump in the water - oh and ending with shaking it all off! Your child will enjoy many outdoor adventures. We love swimming! During the summer we go swimming multiple times a week. Pool time with our family is our favorite. Your child would learn to love playing in the water. From swimming to jumping contests, it'll become a staple for their summer activities. Traveling is another favorite thing of ours to do. Our last trip was to the beach. Every beach day two people head to the beach to set up a tent. They come back and we all eat breakfast at the house, then pack our lunches for a day on the beach. We love building sand castles and diving into the water. The best way to finish the beach day off is with seafood - Brittany only eats the hushpuppies! Your child would grow up revisiting their favorite places and exploring new adventures.
about Stephen by Brittany Stephen is the most patient person I know! He is always patient with me and our foster children. He sits down with them after school to walk through their homework every night. He loves teaching them new facts, like how many star and strips are on the US flag. Your child will grow up with an extremely patient father that will listen and help them through life, while also learning some fun facts along the way.
Stephen loves fishing - especially fly fishing. It became a tradition for him and his grandfather to start every fishing season together catching their first trout of the year together. This is a tradition your child would be a part of and a special yearly trip up to the mountains! Stephen really enjoys going to live sporting events! Him and his friend went to a minor league baseball game and got to participate in the 'build a burger' game. They had to run around the field and grab the pieces of a burger. They won and got a night of free burgers with fries. Your child will experience all types of live sporting events with a great and playful father.
ab o ut Brittany by Stephen Brittany has a love for life and having fun! From listening to Whitney Houston to wearing random costumes for every holiday - and I mean every holiday - she brings life into everyone's day. For Halloween, Brittany dressed up as Ms.Frizzle and dressed Bentley up as Pebbles. She has a heart for people and brings laughter into all situations. Your child will grow up with a love for life and learning to bring laughter to every situation.
Brittany loves traveling! One of her favorite memories is going on a girls' trip and doing goat yoga. The goats kept jumping up on people as we moved to different poses. Your child will enjoy traveling to new places and trying new experiences. Brittany loves all types of music! Her and her parents started going to the International Bluegrass Festival to hear live bluegrass music every year and love listening to new bands. Your child would be introduced to new styles of music and attend many live concerts.
Bentley Bentley is our 4 year old goldendoodle who is hypoallergenic and a big teddy bear. He loves everyone, especially kids, and is very gentle with them. As foster kids have come into our home scared and afraid of what is going on, he helps them find a sense of comfort and peace. He'll do the same for your child and be their childhood companion as they grow up. Bentley is the subject of Brittany's dress up fun! With all of his patience, he's learned to love it from being a gingerbread man to Pebbles from the Flintstones. Your child will also join in the family costume fun!
our community We live in the suburbs and really enjoy the small town feel - while also being close to the city! Our town recently hosted a drive-in movie night to watch "The Secret Life of Pets." We took our beach chairs, blanket and snacks to watch the movie from the back of the car. Your child will enjoy our small town's adventures and traditions throughout the year! We are surrounded by many friends who have adopted. Because of this we have made friends with other families who have also adopted. They have shared with us their story and how they work with their birth families to stay in touch as their child grows up, like sending updates monthly. Your child will also have other adoptive children to talk with.
our family Your child will be blessed with 6 grandparents, including 2 great grandparents. Your child will also have 2 aunts, 2 uncles and 5 cousins. Your child will be loved unconditionally by all of our family members and they'll help them grow into the person they're designed to be. Fostering has been a part of our family. We have loved all of our foster kids as our own and gone on many adventures to create life long memories while they're with us. Our parents also love them as their own grandchildren and go by their grandparent names with them.
Brittany's parents live close by! They enjoy doing new adventures. When Brittany and her dad went curling, they under estimated the ice and fell on their butts a few times - but that didn't stop the laughing! Brittany and her mom are extremely close and love trying new things. Even though Brittany's not a tea fan, they decided to try high tea together. She tried all of them and really enjoyed the mini sandwiches. Stephen's parents live in the mountains and love spending time with family! We spend Christmas with them every year and wear matching pajamas. The guys aren't the biggest fans, but they always let us take our family picture. We also enjoy going to football games together. We love getting to the games early to get snacks and watch the pregame show together, along with the guys always going to their 'lucky bathroom' before each game.
our favorite traditions Every Thanksgiving we head to the family tree lot to sell Christmas trees. This has been a family tradition for Stephen since he was really little. Every year a local family brings Thanksgiving dinner to the lot for the family to eat together. They make the best turkey and mac-n-cheese! This has become such a special tradition for our family to enjoy time together. Your child will join this yearly Thanksgiving tradition, surrounded by love of family and Christmas trees! We are also extremely excited to learn about your families' traditions to continue with your child.
Every three years Brittany’s side of the family gets together in a different location and spends the whole week together for their tri-annual family reunion. Last summer we ventured to the west coast and as you can tell we have matching shirts - a tradition that's been since the 1980's. At the last reunion we ended the night with a campfire, s'mores, and singing camp songs. Your child will enjoy creating memories with all of our extended family - but more importantly they'll learn how important creating memories with family is.
our home Our home is in a small suburb. Our neighbors are great and we enjoy having them over to grill hamburgers. We recently built a new backyard patio that overlooks our yard. Your child will grow up eating dinners outside and loving to read stories on the backyard patio. We already have the nursery ready! It's right across the hall from our bedroom and is decorated with safari animals. Our prayers are for your child and you during this time.
typical week We both work at flexible jobs and from home! We enjoy eating lunches together every day. Bentley also enjoys the work from home life and barks when neighbors walk by to make sure everyone knows. With our flexible schedules, we'll be able to spend lots of quality time with your child as they grow up. Nightly walks are our favorite part of the day! After dinner we walk or ride bikes around our neighborhood. During our walk, we catch up with our neighbors and their kids playing in the cul-de-sac. We always stop with Bentley so the kids can pet him, while he continues to lick them. Your child will grow up enjoying nightly walks, scooter rides, or bike rides around the neighborhood.
