Bridgewater Current Volume 44, Number 1 January 2022 Sipe Center 2022 Season We are thrilled to announce the 2022 season at Sipe Center! This year’s season of 16 live performers features a little bit of everything, including some of the best performing arts groups from Virginia. Animals, comedy, ice skating, an acrobat, a string quartet, dancing, musicals and more are all coming to Sipe Center this year! The season begins on January 22 with local country and bluegrass sensation Spencer Hatcher. You may recognize his name from the “Mountain Dew Major Melon” commercial. The Richmond Symphony, Barter Theatre, Geoff Marsh and Claves Unidos are also some of Virginia’s most talented performers coming to Sipe Center this year. Sipe Center is proud to announce our 2022 Signature Event is a speaking engagement with Frank Beamer, legendary Virginia Tech football coach. Coach Beamer will talk about football and developing leadership. Tickets are available for purchase online, over the phone or in person during box office hours (Thursday-Sunday from 3:00-8:00 p.m.). Charter Day Join us to celebrate Charter Day at Sipe Center on Monday, February 7 at 7:00 p.m. This fun evening will commemorate the founding of Bridgewater, the charter for which was enacted on February 7, 1835. Enjoy a short video honoring our history and participate in a Bridgewater trivia contest. There will be prizes worth up to $250 for the trivia contest winners, and numerous door prizes for viewers! Desserts and concessions will be available. Come out and enjoy this great community event!
Page 2 Bridgewater Current January 2022 Ice Skating at Gen Park Ice skating has been very busy at Generations Park! Here’s some info you should know: Each ice skating session will last 1.5 hours, with a 30-minute period between ice skating sessions. A maximum of 60 skaters are allowed to skate during each skating session. B-Rec members can get their free skate session tickets during our normal hours of operation (see below) at Generations Park, or by calling (540) 908-4212 or (540) 908-3799 to reserve ice skating sessions over the phone. We will also have 15 tickets available starting 15 minutes before the beginning of every session on a first come, first served basis at the window for B-Rec members or the general public. Tickets are required for ice skating - they can be purchased online through ThunderTix at bridgewater.town - or click the QR code to go directly to ThunderTix. This month, we are offering group tennis lessons for elementary and middle school-aged children. The elementary school clinics will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting on January 11, and the middle school clinics will be held on Wednesdays and Fridays starting on January 12. Tuesday, Karen Clark, varsity girls tennis coach at Turner Ashby High School, will lead the clinics. She is February 8 greatly assisted by current and former girls and boys varsity tennis players.
