Belmont Lockdown Bulletin 5th February 2021 T Find us @belmontdorking on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram Dear Parents and Pupils, Welcome to our latest edition of the Belmont Bulletin! I hope that you will be encouraged as you read about the activities and achievements of our pupils across the age range. For those of you who may not have seen the Portal Notice sent last week, I would encourage you all to view the Fly Through of the Aquileon Building and a longer walk through the building on Longer Fly Through of the Aquileon Building. We are working hard to commence the building works as soon as possible after a period of detailed design work and tendering for contractors. May I take this opportunity to thank our Bursar, Mrs Claire Candlish, for her hard work as our Project Manager. In anticipation of the weekend that lies ahead, please may I request that you discourage your children from being on a computer screen, and encourage them instead to walk, to play, to read, and to relax! I recommend fresh air and a healthy diet to drive away the computer blues! With my very best wishes,

Belmont Lockdown Bulletin 5th February 2021 Year 3: Greek Mythology and the Story of Pandora’s Box Year 3 have been studying one of the Greek Myths about Pandora’s Box. Pandora and her husband Epimetheus were gifted a box by the Greek God Zeus. On the box were the instructions ‘Do Not Open’. Curiosity got the better of Pandora and she opened the box. Out flew some bad things such as envy, sickness, hate and disease. Pandora quickly shut the box. Epimetheus heard Pandora weeping and she showed him inside the empty box. One tiny bug flew out. He gave Pandora a big buggy smile in thanks for his freedom and flew away. That tiny bug was named Hope. And Hope made all the difference in the world.

Belmont Lockdown Bulletin 5th February 2021 Mental Health Week: Theme of ‘Express Yourself’ - 1st to 7th February Children in The Mews were asked to find ways to share feelings, thoughts, or ideas through creativity. Santino chose to be a super- hero, Christopher to keep fit on the running machine, Jack to do some lovely quiet mindfulness drawing in his home-built 3CD keep smiling den and Oliver built with the minions a wonderful Lego and ‘Happy’ by man. Will Ferrell Captain Sir Tom Moore We were all so touched by this amazing man, Captain Sir Tom Moore. In their English lessons this week, pupils have been inspired by his resilient approach. They have linked it to the novel they are reading and looking at what it can teach them about getting through difficult times, particularly the resilience we are needing to show to get through lockdown. It inspired a ‘public chat’ discussion designed to provoke thought and keep everyone positive. Words of Jonathan in 3CD spontaneously shared a quote Inspiration in the virtual classroom to help a friend who was feeling sad. This is now the 3CD ‘mantra’: Mrs Sykes expressing “If you can find the strength inside you, you can overcome all things”. herself during her Assembly! We have been asked to share this Health, Wellbeing and Emotional Support guide with all our parents and carers. This has been produced by Surrey County Council in association with NHS and Surrey Healthy Schools. Health, Wellbeing and Emotional Support for Children in Surrey
