    Dear Parents and Pupils,
Welcome to our latest edition of the Belmont Bulletin! I hope that you will be encouraged as you
read about the activities and achievements of our pupils across the age range.

For those of you who may not have seen the Portal Notice sent last week, I would encourage you
all to view the Fly Through of the Aquileon Building and a longer walk through the building on
Longer Fly Through of the Aquileon Building. We are working hard to commence the building
works as soon as possible after a period of detailed design work and tendering for contractors.
May I take this opportunity to thank our Bursar, Mrs Claire Candlish, for her hard work as our
    Project Manager.
In anticipation of the weekend that lies ahead, please may I request that you discourage your
children from being on a computer screen, and encourage them instead to walk, to play, to read,
and to relax! I recommend fresh air and a healthy diet to drive away the computer blues!
    With my very best wishes,

Lockdown Learning

A selection of activities both in and out of school this week.
Mrs Ward led an online ‘Cook Along!’ making pasta with
pea pesto, Mrs Wigley’s Year 5 pupils made models of
rivers, Jonathon made profiteroles and Arthur opened a
shop at home! We cannot forget the snow … is there more
on the way? Congratulations to Margaret in Year 3 who
passed her Primary ballet exam with merit and Auggy in
The Mews who received a certificate for her fundraising
efforts for the Charity, ‘Just a Drop’. Well done everyone.

Year 3: Greek Mythology and the Story of Pandora’s Box

Year 3 have been studying one of the Greek Myths about Pandora’s Box. Pandora and her husband
Epimetheus were gifted a box by the Greek God Zeus. On the box were the instructions ‘Do Not
Open’. Curiosity got the better of Pandora and she opened the box. Out flew some bad things such
as envy, sickness, hate and disease. Pandora quickly shut the box. Epimetheus heard Pandora
weeping and she showed him inside the empty box. One tiny bug flew out. He gave Pandora a big
buggy smile in thanks for his freedom and flew away. That tiny bug was named Hope. And Hope
made all the difference in the world.

Lockdown Birthday Fun!

Birthday parties have been postponed for many during Lockdown … but Mrs Hills-Matthews made
sure that all of the pupils in her Maths and Science lessons on Monday helped her to celebrate her
own birthday in style! The pupils all joined in with a rendition of Stevie Wonder's 'Happy Birthday',
virtually blew out birthday candles and joined in with a combination of mad hats, teddies and even
snacks. The children at school also took part with brownies provided by Mr Codrington and Miss
Smith!
Happy birthday to the following pupils who have already or will be celebrating February
birthdays:
The Mews: Mimi, Amelia, Phoebe, Ethan
Prep: Malaya, Michelle, Monty, Jasper, Harrison, Harry
Senior: Alysia, Jamie, William
And as well as Mrs Hills-Matthews, we also say Happy Birthday to the following staff who also
celebrate February birthdays! Mr Stannard, Mrs Thomas, Mrs Drage.

Captain Sir Tom Moore

We were all so touched by this amazing man, Captain Sir Tom
Moore. In their English lessons this week, pupils have been
inspired by his resilient approach. They have linked it to the
novel they are reading and looking at what it can teach them
about getting through difficult times, particularly the resilience
we are needing to show to get through lockdown. It inspired a
‘public chat’ discussion designed to provoke thought and keep
everyone positive.

Words of Jonathan in 3CD spontaneously shared a quote
