CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

The sky is the limit
Designed for people looking to build their skills and knowledge to become a successful commercial pilot, the course will
provide you with the essential skills you need for a range of jobs within the sector, including:

    commercial pilot

    flying instructor

    aerial application pilot

    airline pilot

    simulator instructor.

Pathways to take your career to new heights
After successful completion of the Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence – Aeroplane) course, you can progress your
aviation career by completing:

1. AVI50415 Diploma of Aviation (Instrument Rating)

This rating is often required for employment with a charter company, and is a prerequisite for a job as an airline pilot. It allows
you to pilot an aircraft by sole reference to your flight instruments, which means you can fly at night, and in cloud. This
qualification usually takes a further 4 to 6 months to complete.

2. AVI50516 Diploma of Aviation (Flight Instructor)

This rating expands your job opportunities within flying schools. For some, becoming an instructor is the end goal, and they
go on to many years of teaching other students how to fly. For others, being an instructor is a great way to gain the flying
hours you need to progress to other roles as a pilot. This qualification usually takes a further 4 to 6 months to complete.

Qualification outcomes
By successfully completing this course, you will have earned two qualifications:

Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence – Aeroplane)

CASA Commercial Pilot Licence – this is the minimum requirement to fly commercially in Australia

You will gain the skills, experience and confidence to fill the role of flight crew personnel performing normal and
emergency commercial pilot duties in support of commercial flight operations. Flight crew duties include applying
technical and non-technical aviation skills and knowledge to a wide range of air transport operations, including
passenger, charter and cargo operations.

Working at this level you will apply your skills and knowledge while demonstrating autonomy, judgement, and defined
responsibility in known or changing contexts, and within broad but established parameters.

This qualification forms some of the requirements for certification as a commercial pilot by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority
(CASA) as directed by Civil Aviation Safety Regulation (CASR) Part 61 Flight Crew Licensing.

Industry requirements
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), under Civil Aviation Safety Regulation (CASR), regulates the Part 61 Flight Crew
Licensing standards, which outlines requirements for certification as a commercial pilot.

These requirements are integrated in the Diploma of Aviation qualification, with your final diploma competency determination
occurring simultaneously with the granting of your Commercial Pilot Licence.

In accordance with the CASA CASR Part 61 Flight Crew Licensing requirements, your practical training will primarily take place
in single engine aeroplanes. Then, once you have achieved the licence, the privileges include the authorisation to co-pilot
specific aircraft in operation as the pilot in command.

To maintain your licence, you will then need to undertake a flight review with an approved officer, every 24 months.

Over-fly hours

This integrated course is designed with enough flight hours for you to successfully
pass assessments.

There may be times however, when you need additional practical flying hours
to support your learning or to pass a unit by repeating a practical assessment.
These additional hours are called over-fly hours. Over-fly hours are to be
purchased when needed, at an additional cost.
