PRESS RELEASE JUNE 2019 HOTEL BELLES RIVES***** CELEBRATES ITS 90TH ANNIVERSARY AMID THE SECOND EDITION OF THE BAL MEILLAND®! What better way to celebrate the 90th spring season than at a grand ball! The second edition of Bal Meilland® will take place on Saturday, September 21st 2019, at Hotel Belles Rives *****. This charity event is the result of an association of values and expertise between Marianne ESTENE-CHAUVIN, the owner of the legendary establishment in Juan-les-Pins and Matthias MEILLAND, 6th generation of the dynasty of famous rose gardeners. THE MEANING OF THE BAL Create a unique flower (the Belles Rives® rose by Meilland), choose a flagship destination (Cap d’Antibes), promote a certain know-how (the botanic and perfume industry of the Côte d’Azur), to participate in a significant cause *. A UNIFYING EVENT WITH AN EMBLEMATIC HERITAGE: PERFUMERY This exceptional event shines bright on the CÔTE D’AZUR: it enables the union of economic players and industry leaders of the region, both categories wishing to pay tribute to the perfume industry, local heritage of the Riviera, through the horticultural operators and producers of botanicals. THE FLORE COMMITTEE, AMBASSADORS OF THE BAL MEILLAND® Thanks to their reputation that goes far beyond the boundaries of the Provence Côte d’Azur region, ambassadors of the Bal Meilland® have the ability to attract the media and key partners whilst offering a wide visibility to the movement and purpose of the ceremony. A STRATEGIC MOVE FOR COMPANIES IN SEARCH OF QUALITY INFLUENCE The renowned character of Hotel Belles Rives is full of meaning and emotion: it is an opportunity to return to the origins of the Côte d’Azur and to grasp the basics as well as modernity after 90 years of twists and turns. CHARITABLE ENGAGEMENT The profit of the evening will be fully donated to the association LES FLEURS D’EXCEPTION DU PAYS DE GRASSE. Created in 2008, the association was further put forward during the recent inscription of Grasse in the Cultural and Intangible Heritage of Humanity for «The know-how related to Perfume in Grasse» by UNESCO. Among its objectives, the Aromatic Fablab, aiming to be an area of production for local seedlings, a nursery to experimentation and advocacy of aromatic plants and cosmetics, which also aims to facilitate and empower the projects of tomorrow. A PROMISING INITIATIVE Supported not only by its guests but also by Jean LEONETTI, Mayor of Antibes, Jérôme VIAUD, Mayor of Grasse and David LISNARD, President of the Regional Committee of Tourism Côte d’Azur France, the event will gather around 220 guests around a dinner, a raffle and a ball in an enchanting setting: a decor of over 8,000 roses right on the beach... The prestigious location of the Bal Meilland® supports the evening’s focus of a booming market by highlighting sponsors and luxury brand partners associated with the event in order to encourage future projects and a thriving branch in line with the image of the perfumery industry.
ABOUT Matthias MEILLAND represents the family and the eponymous brand. It also participates in the mission of general interest towards preservation and enhancement of the terroir, landscapes and a heritage «recognised for centuries of practice» that once counted in the early twentieth century up to 1,300 hectares of flowered fields versus about 70 today. She is also Vice- President of the FEMININ PLURIEL Provence Côte d’Azur network, which highlights the importance of women’s actions in our modern society.
BELLES RIVES hotel ***** KEEPING ITS SPIRIT The Fitzgerald Legend “There is no one in Antibes this Summer, except me, Zelda, Rudolph Valentino, the Murphy, Mistinguett, Rex Ingram, Dos Passos, Olga and Pablo Picasso, Etienne de Beaumont ; it is the ideal place to live and escape from the world” (Francis Scott Fitzgerald, 1926). This famous quotation from the American writer relates the greatest happiness of his life in the Villa Saint Louis, which will become; a few years later, the Belles Rives Hotel. A photograph of the couple is officially hung up on one of the walls in the hall of Belles Rives ; it will be forever like a welcome addressed personally to the guest coming in. The story of Belles Rives starts in fact further to a discovery: the Lost Generation (comprising a disenchanted youth and artists devastated by the First World War) enthuse over the south of France and invents the Côte d’Azur. Leader of this American trend regarding literature of the interwar period, F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife Zelda set up home on the French Riviera in 1925 and fell in love with the Villa Saint-Louis, located in a cove of Cap d’Antibes. This is where he will write his master-piece “Tender is the Night”, transforming the Villa Saint Louis in a holiday destination for rich Americans who discover the pleasure of inebriated parties and sea bathing. The time spent in the Riviera will be a source of inspiration, a few years later, to write “the Great Gatsby” where one can imagine that extravagant couple throw many parties on a terrace on the seafront, with celebrities such as Isadora Duncan, Hemingway, Franck Jay Gould, Maurice Chevalier and Jean Cocteau, with a green light always shining on the horizon. A night life, made of champagne, extravagance, sweet decadence… and the Fitzgeralds will turn Juan les Pins into a very in vogue society rendez-vous, where the jet-set, at the time, like to go wild while cultivating a certain idea of modernity. In 1929 that villa, full of history, will become the Belles Rives Hotel. A family saga At the same time, very far away from the Mediterranean, Boma Estène breaks with his native Russia and leaves to explore Paris, the «Ville Lumière”, then Antibes, thus making his childhood dreams become true. 1929 – Accompanied by his wife Simone, coming from an Antibes hotel property dynasty, Boma Estène supersedes the Fitzgeralds and transforms the Villa Saint Louis in a huge structure for holiday stays. Belles Rives Hotel, the first hotel on the waterfront on the French Riviera, was born. It is seasonal, open from April to September. 1930 and 1931- Boma and Simone Estène add a wing and three storeys to the building, which will then have 42 rooms and suites. Their marriage will be fulfilled by the birth of three children, Georges, Raïna-Laure (Laurette) and Casimir. 1970 – Upon the passing away of Boma that year, Casimir Estène takes the helm of the hotel together with his mother, which he will then manage on his own, masterfully. A Generation History 2001 - Marianne Estène-Chauvin, grand-daughter of Boma and Simone Estène, buys Belles Rives from members of her family. 2002 – Belles Rives is registered in the inventory of the Historic Monuments for its architecture, setting and furniture from the 1930s; the Bar Fitzgerald is listed among the Historic and Legacy Cafés in Europe 2004 – Launch of the gastronomic restaurant «La Passagère»; Belles Rives opens all year round; the Belles Rives beach is turned into a resort area. 2005 – Belles Rives and Belles Rives Ski Nautique Club – with its famous pyramid set on water – have been immortalised on T.V. in the programme “Des Racines et des Ailes”. 2006 - Purchase of Juana Hotel, another gem of Juan les Pins hotel trade, and founding of Belles Rives Groupe. 2009 – Belles Rives and Juana are both classified as 5***** hotels. Organisation of the Villa Belles Rives, summer parties with live DJ on the beach under the stars. 2011 – Set up of the Fitzgerald Prize* 2016 – The gastronomic restaurant, La Passagère, receives a 1* Michelin and sets up a contemporary decoration, mixing frescos and ceramics. 2017 - Belles Rives is rewarded for the second time, during the Villégiature Award Ceremony, the prize for the Best Charming Hotel in Europe ; Antoine Chauvin-Estène, son of Marianne Estène- Chauvin, joins the family group ; birth of Valentine Chauvin-Estène, great-great-granddaughter of Boma and Simone Estène. In the name of the Rose Meilland sets up marketing actions in order to increase the renown of its brands and introduce its collections to professionals and the general public. The company knows to which extent the success of a simple rose can result from a crossing of lives and encounters. For example, the “Mademoiselle Meilland” rose, one of the last-born creations of the company, has been named….. with a famous champagne, according to tradition, in the rose garden of Villa Eilenroc ; an event celebrated by the deputy-mayor, Jean Leonetti, and many other celebrities. “Beautiful in its candy-pink robe”. Radiating a faint sweet fragrance”. “Enchanting and strong at the same time”. For once, the star was not in Cannes but in the park of Villa Eilenroc, inside its rose garden. Thanks today to Mathias Meilland, Public Relations officer, and to his sister Sonia, the company assists the sale of its varieties in providing the licensed holders and sales points an enhanced and elegant promotional material. The brand also attends to over 30 professional and amateur shows all around the world and is obviously present on Internet and social media. Roses with famous names A heritage shaped by history. And so, the A. Meilland Rose or the Rose de la Paix, created just after the war, in 1948, was offered to all the founders of UN as a peace symbol. A rose, the success of which allowed Francis Meilland, one of the ancestors, to make a fortune in the United States; this persuaded him to dedicate himself only to cultivation and creation of roses. the purpose Marianne Estène Chauvin Matthias Meilland This project came to light further to the meeting of Marianne Estène-Chauvin, President of Belles Rives group, and Matthias Meilland, in charge of Meilland International Public Relations. The idea is to create a glamorous and exceptional event in Autumn at Belles Rives, one of the most beautiful settings on the Côte d’Azur, with a prestigious charity evening: The Meilland Ball. On that occasion, the Belles Rives Rose (2017) will be presented to the guests. Marianne Estène-Chauvin, Vice President of the FEMININ PLURIEL PCA network, proposed to the latter to go into partnership in order to organise a fund-raising (through the endowment funds of FEMININ PLURIEL which give right to tax credit). This project is based on both structures in order to organise the evening and raise funds which will be given to a charity association chosen by a female sponsor: - Belles Rives Hotel: Organisation of the Meilland Ball with sponsors and partners. - Meilland: Creation of floral decorations for the event. - Féminin Pluriel: Communication with a large public (press, independent networks, etc.) and collection of funds by virtue of the participation to the event through its endowment funds to benefit from the tax credit. The female sponsor Big-hearted, she must be committed to a charity or aid organisation. An ambassador, the sponsor presents and animates this ball and hands a donation to a charity organisation. Charity organisations such as that of Elise Boghossian (Association EliseCare), Tina Kiffer (Toutes à l’école), etc.... are likely to be approached. A coming office meeting of Féminin Pluriel PCA must enable to choose the charity organisation once and for all.
