ArtForms Music Blending learning, supporting progression What we offer ArtForms Music offers pupils of all ages a wide range of opportunities at every stage of their musical journey. We bring our expertise to support all schools and learners to receive the best musical education the city can offer. We work with schools to provide appropriate inclusive instrumental, vocal and curriculum learning programmes, and supply a variety of targeted and enrichment activities both in and beyond the school day. In response to the challenges encountered through Covid-19 all ArtForms services can be offered face-to-face in school, via remote learning, or as a blended package, and we offer a range of targeted recovery programmes to support schools with their wellbeing and re-integration strategies. The music services offered by ArtForms for weekly delivery via an annual SLA which schools should purchase via Leeds for Learning www.leedsforlearning.co.uk 2. A range of music enrichment, performances and other opportunities which may be bought on an occasional basis throughout the year. ArtForms will make every effort to meet requests for provision which arrive with us later, and throughout the academic year, however it may not be possible to start delivery at the requested date in these cases. 1. Music Services for weekly delivery via an SLA Instrumental Learning 1 Whole Class Instrumental Teaching (WCIT) Eligible for 50% LMEP Cashback £1845 per year for key stages 1, 2 and 3 (36 weeks delivery) Provision which ensures all pupils in the same class have the opportunity to learn to play an instrument together. Collective class progress is recognised through ArtForms Colour Awards. Delivery is by specialist instrumental staff during the school day. Schools must ensure a member of school staff is present and participating during sessions. Allow one hour per class (45 minutes delivery / 15 minutes set up). Schools may not pass on costs of WCIT to pupils. 2 Instruments for WCIT Eligible for 100% LMEP Cashback £480 per class set Sets of instruments can be supplied for schools buying teaching in 1 above: Violin, viola, ukulele, guitar, recorder, fife, clarinet, French horn, mixed brass, cornet, djembe, tuned percussion. Music tech, steel pans and world music packages are available on enquiry. 3 WCIT Follow-on Eligible for 30% LMEP Cashback £1845 per year for key stage 2 (36 weeks delivery) This programme gives pupils the opportunity to have a second year of instrumental tuition following on from their whole class experience. Children are taught weekly for 30 minutes in a group of up to 8. The focus is on the development of musical and technical skills acquired in the first year of WCIT. Pupils also have the opportunity to try other instruments in the same family in preparation for making an informed transition to small group tuition in subsequent years. Individual progress is recognised by the Artforms Colour Awards. Schools may pass costs on to pupils. Bursaries are available for those on FSM 4
4 Small Group Instrumental Teaching Eligible for 20% LMEP Cashback £1635 per year for all key stages (36 weeks delivery) beginner to advanced including GCSE, BTEC, A Level Small group learning supports ongoing progression for pupils committed to instrumental learning. ArtForms supplies specialist instrumental teaching in: woodwind (recorder, fife, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone) strings (violin, viola, cello, double bass) brass (trumpet, cornet, trombone, tuba, French/tenor horn, euphonium) ukulele, guitar (acoustic, electric, bass) keyboards (electronic, piano) percussion (drum kit, orchestral percussion, djembe, dhol) iPads/music technology Instruments can be hired at £16 each per term. Email educ.artforms@leeds.gov.uk for further information. Achievement is recognised through the ArtForms Colour Awards. Pupils may be supported to access accredited music exams where appropriate. Teaching takes place before, during or after the school day. Allow one hour per 10 primary or 8 secondary aged pupils. ArtForms teachers work with schools to group pupils by ability and experience. Schools may pass costs on to pupils. Bursaries are available for those on FSM. Small group teaching is complemented by ensemble opportunities (see section 6). 5 Large Group Instrumental Teaching Eligible for 20% LMEP Cashback £1635 per year for key stages 1, 2 and 3 (36 weeks delivery) ArtForms’ specialist staff teach Steel Pans at all levels in large groups. Other instruments can be taught in groups larger than 10 but smaller than a whole class by negotiation with ArtForms. Individual progress is recognised through ArtForms Colour Awards. Schools may pass costs on to pupils. Bursaries are available for those on FSM. 5
6 Ensemble Leading and Directing Eligible for 20% LMEP Cashback £1845 per year for all key stages (36 weeks delivery) Making music together enhances pupils’ progress, develops personal and social skills, instils a sense of collective pride and enriches the whole school environment. ArtForms provides directors/ensemble leaders for groups in a wide variety of styles and genres: Orchestras, wind, brass and concert bands, folk groups, jazz ensembles, rock and pop groups, chamber groups. Delivery may be before school, during the school day, at lunchtime, or after school. Singing 7 Whole Class Vocal Teaching (WCVT) Eligible for up to 50% LMEP Cashback £1845 per year for key stages 1, 2 and 3 (36 weeks delivery) This in-depth tuition embeds best practice from the earliest stages and prepares children for the next stages of small group lessons and choirs. Collective class progress is recognised through ArtForms Colour Awards. Delivery is by specialist vocal staff during the school day. Schools must ensure an appropriate adult is present and participating during sessions. Allow 30 mins per class for KS1 and 45 mins per class for KS2 and KS3 Schools may not pass on costs of WCVT to pupils. 8 Small Group Vocal Teaching Eligible for 20% LMEP Cashback £1635 per year for all key stages (36 weeks delivery) beginner to advanced including GCSE, BTEC, A Level Small group learning supports ongoing progression for pupils committed to vocal learning. Achievement is recognised through the ArtForms Colour Awards and accredited music exams (ABRSM/Rock School) as appropriate. Teaching takes place before, during or after the school day. Allow one hour per 10 primary or 8 secondary aged pupils. ArtForms teachers work with schools to group pupils by ability and experience. Schools may pass costs on to pupils. Bursaries are available for those on FSM. 6
9 Vocal Ensembles and Choir Directors Eligible for 20% LMEP Cashback £1845 per year (36 weeks delivery) Singing together enhances pupils’ progress, develops personal and social skills, instils a sense of collective pride and enriches the whole school environment. ArtForms provides directors for groups in a wide variety of styles and genres including pop, rock, gospel, chamber and large choirs, musical theatre, and jazz, rock, pop and folk groups. Delivery may be before school, during the school day, at lunchtime, or after school. 10 Accompanying Pianists for all key stages Accompanying pianists play for school-led singing, and can assist you to deliver the National Curriculum in classes, choirs and other groups, by playing material chosen by your school staff. EYFS (including Children’s Centres and Private Nurseries) Using well-established music schemes of work and methods, we teach small groups or whole classes to improve outcomes in: phonological and phonemic awareness and retention social cohesion, emotional awareness and inclusion vocal confidence listening skills and improved attention KS1 and KS2 High quality outcomes are achieved through practical music making sessions. Music curriculum lessons are filled with singing and the playing of instruments which empower children and increase their skills, confidence and resilience. Children’s musical progress is monitored via the ArtForms Progression and Assessment document. Age-appropriate musical instruments and learning resources can be supplied free of charge. We recommend weekly teaching sessions of the following length: 30 minutes for each class in EYFS and KS1 45 minutes for each class in KS2 School staff are welcome to take part in NC lessons as their own CPD although sessions may be used as PPA cover. Wellbeing and Recovery Designed in response to the government’s safe practice guidelines for schools, this scheme of work focuses on body percussion, musical games and listening. With musical creativity at its heart, the programme supports children in their recovery from the consequences of Covid-19 and the anxiety associated with the isolation of lockdown. The music sessions are physically active, engaging, mindful, and most importantly of all, fun. Together with learning new musical skills pupils are helped to rebuild connections to their school community and are supported to reintegrate back into the classroom. Big Sings Our NC team can extend their in-class provision by leading schools’ key stage or whole school singing sessions. We recommend 30 minute weekly sessions for each. Curriculum Enrichment ArtForms NC teachers are trained and resourced to be able to offer a wide selection of after school and lunch time activities. Why not book a multi-activity music club for targeted pupils each term? We will work with you to choose the right activity for each group. We offer choirs, mixed percussion, Samba, Bamboo Tamboo, African Drumming, recorders, ocarinas, Multi Instrumental Rock School, Ukulele or Music ICT with i- pads. 8
SILCS and Resourced Provision 12 Music sessions for children with additional needs (SEND) Cashback eligibility for all key stages Whole Class 50% Small Group 20% For SILCs, resourced provision, and with small groups of pupils in mainstream Music Therapy 50% settings. The ArtForms Inclusive Music Team is made up of musician teachers and music therapists dedicated to providing and promoting musical opportunities for children with additional needs. We work with those with: communication difficulties including autism; learning difficulties; physical difficulties; complex Multiple Learning Needs (CMLN); social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH); sensory impairments including deaf, hearing impaired, blind or visually impaired. Weekly Whole Class instrumental and vocal Music Teaching Whole Class Music sessions are adapted to the level of pupils in the group. Musical elements are £1845 per year explored through class singing, using props, and playing a selection of (36 weeks delivery) tuned/untuned percussion, ukuleles, steel pans, djembes or Samba. Small Group Instrumental Teaching Small Group We offer tuition for pupils to learn guitar, keyboard or drum kit. Other instruments £1635 per year are available on request. (36 weeks delivery) Music Therapy Music Therapy sessions are one-to-one and are designed to support pupils with Music Therapy communication or emotional problems. In the sessions pupils develop new ways of £62 per hour expressing their ideas and feelings through the use of music. min 2 hrs/week termly Training ArtForms, in partnership with YAMSEN: Specially Music, delivers a programme of training courses for school staff, support assistants, parents and carers. Advice on developing a curriculum of music for communication and interaction, and using the Sounds of Intent assessment framework is available. 14 Music Connect Free Leading the way in CPD for Primary and Secondary Schools 100% subsidised by LMEP for eligible schools. Music Connect, delivered by ArtForms, assists Leeds’ maintained, free schools and academies to provide a rich and engaging music curriculum. Music Connect supports schools through all stages of curriculum development to guide pupils to reach their potential. The annual programme responds to needs that schools themselves identify, and typically comprises: Professional development opportunities for teachers and supporting staff, delivered by music specialists. Network meetings to support Primary Music Leaders Network meetings to support Secondary Music Leaders Bespoke advice and guidance sessions in your school (1 hour per school per year, extra time can be purchased). This meeting will usually take place with the Music Leader or SLT. Unfortunately it cannot be used as a Staff Training session.
