COVID-19 has undoubtedly highlighted a significant gap in our education system; are young people given enough education and support to proactively maintain their mental fitness? This session will discuss some of the key issues when it comes to mental health, as well as introduce the first ever mental fitness app for FE, designed to boost confidence, build resilience, and ultimately improve outcomes for students and staff. A collaborate discussion around barriers, strategies and how we can move forward in the embedding of English and Maths in the vocational area of sport. In addition to Ben and Suzanne discussing their context, the session will open questions to participants for an interactive and collaborative programme. 3.2 Esports: what you need to know, that your students already do. Tom Dore, Head of Education, British Esports Association and Kalam Neale, Curriculum Lead, Barnsley College Tom and Kalam will introduce you to the amazing world of esports (organised, competitive video gaming), a world that your students already know and love. They will explain opportunities for you to engage your students in competitions and tournaments exactly like you do with traditional sport. They will also introduce you to the L2 & L3 BTECs in Esports that we have been developed in partnership with Pearson. The presentation will highlight the successes, challenges and learnings so far in the pilot year of the AoC Sport Inclusion Hub programme. Loughborough College will also their learnings from being part of the programme and how the programme has helped them to grow their inclusive provision for disabled students. 3.8 Social action in practice Lindsey Whitton, Leeds City College and Alfie Wilkinson, East Durham College An overview on how social action has developed within Leeds City College over the past 3 years and a look forward to what's to come. The presentation will also focus on the importance of social action and the links between social action, community cohesion and student personal development. East Durham College’s rationale and how they engaged all learners on a full-time study programme to take part in the projects will also be discussed. 3.9 STEP and how we utilise the framework to engage participants sustainably.
