2021 MICHIGAN ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL BOARDS’ Annual Leadership Conference INVITATION Dear Board Colleagues and Leaders in Education, I’m truly looking forward to seeing you at this year’s first-ever hybrid Annual Leadership Conference being held at the Amway Grand Hotel and DeVos Place in Grand Rapids and virtually. MASB is offering a full in-person experience, as well as virtual participation for the core days of the conference. As school board members, we are all committed to supporting our students in their educational journeys and #MASBALC is a great way to gain valuable information for you and your districts. This year, we are back to the typical conference schedule that past attendees are accustomed to! On Thursday, Nov. 11, we will offer Preconference Workshops as well as Board Member Certification (CBA) classes. You can mix and match with a workshop in the morning and a CBA in the afternoon or use the day to attend a workshop or CBA at both times. Remember, you will need to register separately for Thursday. We will wrap up the day with the Delegate Assembly, followed by the Exhibit Show and a Welcome Reception for in-person attendees. For those of you attending virtually, the Delegate Assembly will be streamed (voting delegates must attend in person) followed by a virtual welcome and networking opportunity to get your conference experience started! Over the course of Friday and Saturday, all attendees can expect to learn from four great General Session speakers, as well as hearing valuable information offered by professional groups and your colleagues during the Clinic Sessions. Expect a variety of topics to be offered that will surely be of interest to you and your district. And here’s a tip from seasoned ALC attendees . . .have the members of your board divide up and attend different sessions to gather as much information as possible! For those of you attending in person who would like the opportunity to add additional CBA classes to your resume, classes will be offered on Thursday during the day; Friday and Saturday evenings; and Sunday, Nov. 14 will be a “CBA-only” day. There will be morning and afternoon classes offered, and if you’re with us for the full day, lunch is provided! For those of you who are participating virtually, Sunday can be your CBA day too! MASB offers numerous online classes (masb.org/onlinecbas), so be sure to sign up. This is a great opportunity to strengthen your CBA portfolio before you head home (or close that laptop!) from what promises to be an excellent conference. I hope you are able to join me and hundreds of your fellow education leaders for this year’s Annual Leadership Conference! Thank you for ALL that you do for students everywhere—see you soon!
