SILVER ARTS 2021
September - December 2021
Online programmes will be available at NAC’s Facebook Events page
Tickets are free with registration for live programmes at www.nac.gov.sg/silverarts.

In celebration of its tenth anniversary, Silver Arts returns this year from September to December 2021
in a hybrid format, with a blend of physical and digital programmes for seniors and their loved ones
to enjoy in-person and from the comfort of their homes. From hands-on workshops, engaging
performances and interactive exhibitions, join in as we celebrate the TENacity, stories and creative
talents of our seniors.

Look forward to an exciting line-up of more than 30 programmes in English, Malay, Tamil, Mandarin
and Chinese dialects. Indulge in nostalgic songs of yesteryear with live performances adapted from
popular commissioned works such as Wadah Seni’s Entertainment’s Keroncong Asmara (Romantic
Keroncong); reimagine the kampung life in The Glowers Drama Group’s radio play Chap Lau (十楼);
enjoy diverse works wrought from mutual respect and cultural exchanges in Pathey Nimidam, a 10-
minute Tamil play programme presented by Ravindran Drama Group; pick up a new skill in artist-led
workshops and appreciate the new works created by seniors in community arts exhibitions online
and at three libraries.

Start your journey by subscribing to the Silver Arts Whatsapp channel for updates and participate in
our online programmes during festival period at NAC’s Facebook Events page. For more information
and the full line-up, visit www.nac.gov.sg/silverarts.

Presented by the National Arts Council (NAC), Silver Arts aims to highlight the significance of arts
engagement in enhancing the well-being of seniors and people around them. Through learning a
new skill, sharing their stories and co-creating art with artists, seniors can (re)discover their talent,
deepen family bonds and form new social connections within the community.

Have you seen shows like Glee and Pitch Perfect where
actors sing in perfect harmony and without instrumental
accompaniment? This is A cappella Singing, a style of
singing which originated in Europe around the late 15th
century AD and has since traversed continents and time.
A cappella is all about bringing people together, finding
harmony, balance and beauty in both music and life. It is

be it beatboxing, doo-wop or barbershop quartet singing.

Spaces Between the Clouds
by Mintio

What does it mean to hold space for someone? What does
it mean to be physically, mentally, emotionally, and
spiritually present for someone, especially when they
                                           have dementia?

Spaces Between the Clouds charts an artistic meditation
on aging and what it means to accompany someone
through the vagaries of weather and mood. As we enter
the Tuesday and Thursday afternoons of seniors and their
caregivers, we learn to navigate moments of uncertainty
and exhaustion, playfulness and bursts of song. As our
Image Credits: Co:Creation Workshop conversations and hands travel over old photographs and
indigo dye, water-worn textiles and sun-lit cyanotype
prints, we start to realize how holding space necessitates
a paradoxical dance of providing support as well as
distance. Through this project, Mintio hopes that the
people who encounter the work will get to ask themselves
how they would like to grow old. And what would they like
                                           to remember?

                                                                                                   26
This project was developed with the seniors at Alzheimer's
Disease Association (ADA) and will be presented in the
Silver Arts 2021 edition as an exhibition, publication and
