IMG ACADEMY (FL) #2 SC NEXT TOP 25 RANK #4, 22-4 KEY PLAYERS # NAME HT GR POS To understand IMG Academy’s platform is to appreciate it and realize the future is now. The academy’s academics and sport-specific intensity and schedule mirrors with that of a collegiate experience. And that’s why the Ascenders are O JADEN BRADLEY 6’3 SR G in position every year to win GEICO Nationals and why student-athletes flock to their Florida campus. On the court, they feature a balanced lineup of 6-3 1 KEYONTE GEORGE 6’4 SR G point guard Jaden Bradley (Alabama signee), 6-5 Keyonte George (Baylor), 3 ERIC DAILEY JR 6’7 SR F 6-5 Noah Batchelor, 6-4 Jett Howard (he’s headed to Michigan to play for his dad Juwan), 6-7 Eric Dailey Jr. (undecided) and 6-8 forward Jarace Walker 4 JACOI HUTCHINSON 6’2 JR G (Houston). George (No. 3), Walker (No. 9) and Bradley (No. 15) are prized recruits from the ESPN 100 and played earlier this week at the McDonald’s 11 NOAH BATCHELOR 6’6 SR G All-American Game in Chicago. The long, athletic Dailey has several major offers on the table from SEC, ACC and Pac-12 and last summer helped Team 13 JETT HOWARD 6’6 SR G USA win the gold medal at the FIBA 3-on-3 U18 World Cup in Hungary. In NIBC play, George averaged 16.9 points and 4.7 rebounds; while Walker (16.7 ppg, 24 MICHAEL MOORE 6’9 SR F 8.2 rpg, 2.2 bpg); Howard (13.6 ppg), Bradley (9.9 rpg, 5.0 apg) and Eric 25 JARACE WALKER 6’8 SR G Dailey (5.3 rpg) were among the conference leaders in statistical categories. HEAD COACH: SEAN MCALOON ROAD TO GEICO NATIONALS Like all GEICO Nationals participants, the Ascenders (22-4) played a national schedule, including a 7-3 mark in the NIBC. Against the GEICO Nationals field, IMG went 3-4 and lost twice to No. 1 Sunrise Christian but beat rival Montverde Academy twice and Oak Hill once. Before Christmas, the Ascenders went 3-1 to place third at the City of Palms Classic, including a loss to Oak Hill and a victory over eventual Arkansas Class 6A state champion North Little Rock. In January, IMG traveled north to the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, MA, recording a scintillating 57-53 win over Montverde. At the Metro Classic in New Jersey, they stopped Patrick School (NJ) but fell in a nail-biter to La Lumiere. The Ascenders last played on Feb. 5, so the off time was put to good use by coach Sean McAloon and his staff in preparation for the GEICO opener versus La Lumiere. @IMGABASKETBALL F OR MORE IN F O R MAT IO N A N D T O P U R C H A S E T I C KETS VI SI T W W W. #3 MONTVERDE ACADEMY (FL) #3 SC NEXT TOP 25 RANK #5, 21-4 KEY PLAYERS # NAME HT GR POS The Eagles roll out five players that signed national letters-of-intent with big- time programs and five were selected to participate at the Jordan Brand Classic on April 15 in Chicago. Six-six guard Dariq Whitehead (signed with Duke), 6-7 0 DARIQ WHITEHEAD 6’6 SR G Malik Reneau, 6-8 Dillon Mitchell (Texas), 6-5 Jalen Hood-Schifino (Indiana) and 10 MIKKEL TYNE 5’10 JR G 6-3 point guard Skyy Clark. Plus, there are juniors and sophomores waiting in the wings for their turns. Whitehead, the Naismith National Player of the Year, 12 DRAVYN GIBBS-LAWHORN 6’0 JR G is a complete player and New Jersey native that stresses defense but will attack the rim from the wing and set up his teammates. Hood-Schifino is an explosive 13 KWAME EVANS 6’9 JR F floor general with great floor awareness and a top defender. Reneau is a skilled post player who owns the glass. Dillon is a long, wiry forward who handles 14 MALIK RENEAU 6’7 SR F the ball well, sees the floor and distributes. At 6-9, junior KJ Evans is the second-ranked player in his class with Kentucky, Maryland and Oregon among 15 SKYY CLARK 6’3 SR G the favorites to sign him in November and 6-2 Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn (Purdue 21 AMIER ALI 6’7 SO G commit) is one of the top point guards from the Class of 2023. 23 DILLON MITCHELL 6’7 SR F ROA D TO GEICO NATIONALS A year ago, the top-ranked Eagles completed a 26-1 season, culminating with a 24 JALEN HOOD-SCHIFINO 6’5 SR G fifth GEICO Nationals title and another national championship by several media outlets. This year the Eagles are the hunters and that’s scary stuff for the rest 31 DERIK QUEEN 6’8 SO F of the field. And because coach Kevin Boyle’s team is familiar with most of the 32 BAYLEY CRAWFORD 6’4 SR G field from competing in the NIBC, it will benefit his squad. Montverde went 7-3 in the NIBC, tied with IMG Academy for third and split two games with champion Sunrise Academy. They are 5-2 against the GEICO Nationals field with a rematch HEAD COACH: KEVIN BOYLE of last year’s final versus AZ Compass Prep in a first-round matchup. The Eagles (21-4) started the season winning five straight and captured four games to win the prestigious City of Palms Classic before Christmas. They won the Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament, beating eventual Florida Class 4A champions and then traveled to New Jersey knocking off state champions Camden (Group 2) and Bergen Catholic (Non-Public A). They lost to Texas Class 6A state titlist Duncanville, 67-66, at the Hoophall West in Arizona and defeated DeMatha (MD), which won the Alhambra Catholic Invitational Tournament, for another quality triumph. @MVABASKETBALL F OR MORE IN F O R MAT IO N A N D T O P U R C H A S E T I C KETS VI SI T W W W.
