ROAD TO GEICO NATIONALS
Like all GEICO Nationals participants, the Ascenders (22-4) played a national
schedule, including a 7-3 mark in the NIBC. Against the GEICO Nationals
field, IMG went 3-4 and lost twice to No. 1 Sunrise Christian but beat rival
Montverde Academy twice and Oak Hill once. Before Christmas, the Ascenders
went 3-1 to place third at the City of Palms Classic, including a loss to Oak
Hill and a victory over eventual Arkansas Class 6A state champion North Little
Rock. In January, IMG traveled north to the Hoophall Classic in Springfield,
MA, recording a scintillating 57-53 win over Montverde. At the Metro Classic
in New Jersey, they stopped Patrick School (NJ) but fell in a nail-biter to La
Lumiere. The Ascenders last played on Feb. 5, so the off time was put to good
use by coach Sean McAloon and his staff in preparation for the GEICO opener
versus La Lumiere.
