Back in Men’s Cup Side round 2 our club made the decision to post-pone the round No. Name No. Name due to a small number of Covid-19 cases in our community. As 2 Brodie Tebbutt 2 Abby Wilson there was no wet weather round built into the compressed 4 Joey Overdijk 3 Jessie Jones season we were forced to run two night games across two 6 Mitch Hall days in the middle of the week. 4 Emma Kelly 7 Jason Carey 5 Aleta Kinkade (P) Our Power Marlins women played Warners Bay on a beautiful 8 Chase Morrisey clear Tuesday night with the game kicking off at 7:30pm. Pen- 6 Danielle Mcleod 9 Joel Erickson ny Rushworth kicked her first goal for the season in the final (P) 10 Adam Blyth minutes of the first quarter which saw the Power Marlins up 9 Louise O’Rourke by 4 points at the break. Warners Bay took the lead in second 12 Julien Craven 11 Jade Pritchett and although our backs provided great pressure all night, the 13 Chris Eddy 13 Sophia Roberts (P) girls were down by 3.9 at the end of the third quarter and 14 Craig Bird were now missing their full back, co-captain and club great 15 Nik Ellis-Brody 16 Natasha Flint Tash Flint who suffered a serious concussion. A good crowd 16 Jarryd Rymer 19 Fiona Waters (P) came out to support the ladies and enjoy the spectacle of a 18 Jayden Rymer 20 Kayla Merritt (P) moonlit game, however no one could have predicted that a 20 Dave Fraser faulty timer on the lights would plunge them into darkness 22 Justine Houihan during the break and see a dramatic early end to the game. 21 Kael Blackburne (P) Best players on the night were Molly Fraser, Justine Hourihan, 22 Wayd Blackburne 23 Josie Johnson (P) Jessie Jones, Jemma Astley, Abbey Ruttley, Jade Pritchett. 23 Mitch Walls 24 Samantha Richards 24 Matt Blyth 28 Shakira Jobson (P) The women backed up on Saturday to play another tough 25 Billy Barton game against Maitland at Ferodale Oval. www.aflhuntercentralcoast.com.au N E L S O N B AY M A R L I N S Senior Coach: Sean McGrath Women’s Coach: Dean Purdle Colours: Blue & Gold Facebook: NelsonBayMarlinsAFLClub The team yet again showed how much improvement they have made over the short season with a season best 3 goals kicked and plenty of hard tackles, contested marks and courage shown throughout the game. Unfortunately Maitland took home the win 70 points to 21, but we are really pleased with the progress and passion the Power Marlins bring each week. Goal Kickers were Sam Richards, Jemma Astley, Sophia Roberts, best players were Jemma Astley, Jessie Jones, Louise O''Rourke, Brooke Stewart, Abby Ruttley, Justine Hourihan. In stark contrast to the beautiful weather for the women’s game the night before, the Marlins men played Warners Bay in the freezing cold and pouring rain on Wednesday. Regardless of the terrible conditions we had a good crowd of umbrellas there to cheer on the men as they showed why we believe they are serious contenders this year. Some amazing marks by Noah Con- nick saw him finish the night with 3 goals and named in the best. Jayden Rymer, Craig Bird and Mitch Hall each finished the game with a goal, with Jayden also joining Noah, Joel Erikson, Lewis Dews, Alec Clarke and Adam Blyth in the best. The tension on and off the field increased as our men were kept scoreless in the third quarter, while Warners Bay kicked 5 points and our backs did their part to keep the game in our favour. The committee held our breath as the time ticked past 9pm and the issue with the lights proved to have been resolved earlier in the day. The men held their nerve as the rain got heavier and finished the night, two men down and feeling battered and bruised but thrilled by the 17 point win. The men turned up Saturday to face Singleton still sporting the bruises and fatigue of two nights before. With 90 percent of the team about to play their third game in eight days we knew it was going to be a hard task to win against the in form Roost- ers who were sitting just above us on the ladder. But the boys came out firing in the first quarter kicking 4 goals 3 to lead at the end of the quarter. Having already lost one off the bench to injury the fatigue started to kick in in the second quarter and Singleton had a 16 p oint lead by half time. Some fantastic pressure and determination kept the score fairly even in the third but as more players were lost to soft tissue injuries and the exhaustion became clear to everyone, the Roosters didn’t waste any chances and were able to run away with it in the forth to finish in front by 8 goals. Wayd Blackburne finished the day with 3 goals, Noah Connick with 2 and Aaron Crouch with 1. Best players were Jason Carey, Wayd Blackburne, Noah Connick, Chris Eddy, Jayden Rymer and Chase Morrissey. Big thanks goes to all the volunteers and supporters who helped us run these games and came down to watch and support the club, particularly for those games in the middle of the week, our footy club would be nothing without its amazing community. Round 10 sees the Power Marlins women play Wyong Lakes down at Don Small Oval while the Marlins men play Maitland in a do or die match out at Max McMahon Oval. 18

The Roosters’ senior line-up will hope this weekend’s clash will be less nail-biting. Earlier in the morning, Tim Hare’s reserves side will hope to return to the top four when they play host to Gosford’s second tier line-up. The visitors are currently placed fourth with a 3-4 record and three games remaining. Singleton, placed fifth with a 2-6 record, will only play Gosford and Maitland (away) before concluding the season with a bye. MEANWHILE the Roosterettes will hope to replicate their 78-point win over Gosford from earlier in the season when they playoff against the sixth placed Tigers at noon. After an impressive 6-1 start, Nadene McBride’s side has faced two shock defeats to Lake Macquarie and Wallsend-West Newcastle. Nevertheless Singleton played without a host of talent last week with skipper Tori Cowburn, Victorian recruit Claire Truin and mother/daughter duo Paula and Kalani Bates all absent from the line-up. 20
