Telford College Code of Conduct All students who have been successful in securing a place at Telford College are required to read, understand and sign up to our Student Code of Conduct, this involves promoting High Expectations throughout your time with us at college during all learning and enrichment activities whilst both on and offsite. What you need to do To ensure we keep you safe whilst you are at Telford College you must do the following: - Follow all health and safety guidance and signage throughout the college - Use the sanitiser stands located around the college - Wash your hands regularly - Do not share food, drink or equipment - Stay in your designated Zone unless authorised to move to another zone by a member of staff or manager Students are required to comply with the following: - Wear your colour coded college ID badge at all times - Attend each and every timetabled lesson and maintain a minimum of 90% attendance - Arrive on time for all lessons – including remote lessons - Inform your Course Tutor or Learner Manager if you have any circumstances that will affect your attendance or punctuality – this includes attendance at remote lessons - Maintain good behaviour at all times and adhere to the high expectations set by the college and do not bring the college into disrepute at any time, even when you’re not on college premises - Certain behaviours may impact on your future careers. Therefore, please carefully consider how to behave at all times - Follow the College guidance for using college IT systems for both onsite and remote learning. IT usage is monitored and any inappropriate use may result in your place at college being placed at risk - Only use your mobile phone in lessons when agreed to do so for learning and teaching activities - Discuss and agree regular targets to improve with your teacher or tutor and ensure you work hard to achieve these - Use teacher/tutor feedback given for completed work to improve and achieve your next steps telfordcollege.ac.uk 5
Students are required to comply with the following, continued: - Do not bring in any items such as alcohol or drugs or items that may cause harm or offence to yourself or others - Treat others with respect regardless of their: age, race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, level of ability, religion, culture or background - Bring in appropriate equipment/PPE to enable you to complete and achieve your studies and qualifications - Treat college equipment and the environment with respect - If you smoke or vape you MUST only do so in the designated areas - Avoid the use of abusive language anywhere on campus at all times, including during remote learning - Use the Student voice to feedback your experience with us at the college - Use college support services to help achieve high levels of attendance, complete and achieve your studies including bursaries, financial, welfare and BeSafe - If you are behind with your work, make every effort to catch up and attend workshop sessions - Abide by the regulations of the relevant examinations awarding body for your qualifications - Complete assignments, exams and assessments in line with agreed assessment plans - Be nice, be kind, support others to be happy and achieve, Be proud! You can do this in the following ways: Contact the absence phone line on 01952 642244 and leave a message Email the absence email absences@telfordcollege.ac.uk informing us of the reason for your absence Visiting reception to inform us of any planned absences Failure to report absence or persistent poor attendance may put your college place at risk. Please talk to your personal tutor if you have any difficulties that may affect attendance. For reporting a Covid 19 absence, please follow the current guidance on our website. Be Safe at Telford College keeping you safe at college Your health and wellbeing is of prime importance to us and we want you to feel safe at all times. If you have any concerns about your safety, or the safety of any student, please make contact with a member of our BeSafe team. To ensure security and the smooth running of the college, it is essential that you wear your ID badge and lanyard at all times around your neck Please be assured: All suspicions of abuse will be taken seriously and responded to swiftly All students, regardless of ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability have the right to a safe environment All students have the right to learn in an environment free of harassment or inappropriate behaviour Bullying, including physical, emotional, online and verbal, either directly or indirectly, is unacceptable and the college offers a zero tolerance policy. Any student will be asked to leave class if a tutor suspects they are under the influence of alcohol/drugs. Be Safe at Telford College Emotional Health & Wellbeing The college takes the Emotional Health and Wellbeing of our students and staff very seriously. Having the chance to access support we offer when you need it can make a big difference to your college experience. We offer a range of different support services that you can access. The college BeSafe Team has counsellors and mentors that work in college and they are here to support you. Student Voice your views & feedback are critical to us Every course will have an elected and trained course representative. They’ll gather the views of the class and offer feedback through course team meetings and cross-college events You can speak to or join the student council, who meet often with the principal. Elected members will attend the college governor meetings to pass on any feedback from the student body. They’ll be part of the decision-making process Throughout the year, a range of anonymous cross-college student surveys will be available to offer you an opportunity to provide detailed feedback on your college experience if you have a concern... Your first step would involve talking to your course tutor, who will be able to help or signpost you to the most appropriate support. Student The Student Hub The Student Hub is open during college hours for students to use. Accessing books including e books The Student Hub has a range of resources to assist you with your studies. This includes books and E Books. augmented reality/virtual reality Telford College has state of the art AR and VR equipment which will be used to enhance your learning. We have AR and VR equipment on the 3rd floor of W Block and in the Student Hub. Your tutor will book your groups in to use the cutting edge technology. There will be a number of drop in sessions and additional activities in the area. self-study areas The Student Hub has a self-study area on the ground floor which is available for students to use. There are plenty of work spaces available. computer facilities On the top floor of the Student Hub, there are numerous PCs for students to use. You can use these in your lessons for group work with your tutor or use them to study individually. Ask staff in the Student Hub if you want to book out a PC or other equipment. blended learning We have implemented a blended learning support hub specifically set up to support adult students with any blended learning approaches in their chosen course. if you require support in the use of our remote platforms and resources, you can contact student services directly on: 01952 642237 or email studenthub@telfordcollege.ac.uk to book a workshop session on site. About the Campus Please see Page 16 for our Curriculum Campus Map Entrance to the College The entrance and exit of the college is located in E Block, where Main Reception is situated. Car park entrance and exit The college has a large car park which is free for students to park on. Students who drive to college will be given a car park pass which needs to be displayed in you car window screen at all times. We also have an area in the main car park to store your bikes and motorcycles. The car park is supervised by a security guard who will let you through the barrier, as long as you have your pass displayed. All property is left at the owner’s risk. We cannot take responsibility for any loss or damage. cafes & restaurants The college has various spaces for you to eat and drink. There is The Haybridge Restaurant and Rendezvous which are located in the middle of college, by the Student Hub. We also have one Starbucks Cafe which is located within Rendezvous and another Starbucks Cafe located within S Block. There will be a specific seating area for you to use depending on your course. Multi Faith Room The college has a Multi Faith Room for students and staff to access. The room is located in B000. The room is in a quiet location where students and staff of differing religious beliefs or none at all, are able to spend time in contemplation or prayer. telfordcollege.ac.uk 15
