WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR This past year, our Parks and Recreation team accomplished a 75% cost recovery rate; brought in approximately $24.4 million economic impact to the Truckee Meadows through the activities and tournaments at the Golden Eagle Regional Park; raised $15,000 for the Youth Scholarship Fund through the 17th Annual Mayor’s Cup Golf Tournament; named two future parks and received a $50,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts for a public art overlay plan for Victorian Square. This fall you’ll see new Sparks signage educating the public on our new smoke/vape free park ordinance. Your compliance is appreciated and assists us in providing healthy, clean and safe parks. I’m aware of the demand for our Youthwatch services which has created waiting lists. With a growing community and low unemployment rate, please know that we are doing everything we can to recruit, train and retain part-time staff to meet your needs. AQUATICS/SWIMMING SWIM LESSONS FROM SWIM LESSONS UNIVERSITY Our child-centered swim program with superior swim instructor training was developed by the founder of the nationally acclaimed, award-winning Swim Lessons University. The curriculum offers a progressive learning system designed to make children safer when in and around water. If you have questions about which level/class to register your child in, please call (775) 353-2385. PARENT AND CHILD AQUATICS Builds basic water safety skills for both parents and children, helping infants and young children ages 6 months to about 3 years become comfortable in the water so they are willing and ready to learn to swim. These basic skills include adjusting to the water environment, showing comfort while maintaining a front or back position in the water and demonstrating breath control, including blowing bubbles or voluntarily submerging under water. SWIM LESSON LEVELS: This program is based on a logical, five-level progression that helps swimmers from approximately 3 years and up with varying abilities develop their swimming and water-safety skills. The prerequisite for each level is the successful demonstration of skills from the preceding level, except for Level 1, which has no prerequisites.
