THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF KITSAP HUMANE SOCIETY PRESENTS Presented by Peninsula Subaru Oct. 12-16, 2020 A virtual experience! Spokespets: Bear, Ares & Seal
Dear Friends, Welcome to Animal Krackers 2020! Although we can’t meet in person right now, we look forward to “seeing you” for our first-ever virtual event, which promises to be meaningful, magical and fun! Your generosity this year means more than ever, as injured, sick, and homeless animals keep coming to our doors in need of help. With you as our partner, our rescue, veterinary services, low-cost spay/neuter and pet adoption programs serve thousands of pets every year. And people need us, too. During this pandemic, hundreds of families in financial hardship have sought help feeding their animals. Our Pet Food Pantry ensures they get the help they need, so that no one has to choose between feeding themselves and feeding their pets. Your big-hearted bidding – for our Live and Silent Auctions or our pet lifesaving Fund-A-Need – shows the animals (and the people who love them) how much our community cares. On behalf of our entire board of directors and the animals we serve, thank you in advance for being part of our virtual Animal Krackers and for giving generously. We’re here when people and pets need us most. All because of you. With gratitude, Eric Stevens Tina Chenevert Executive Director President, Board of Directors 1

Virtual Event FAQ KHS can’t wait to bring the excitement and fun of Animal Krackers to you in the comfort of your own home! The Silent and Live Auctions will be held in an online format this year. Below, take a look at the frequently asked questions about our virtual event. Do I need to register to participate? Yes! With your registration, you’ll receive exciting updates about all things Animal Krackers! You can sign up by visiting our event website. What is the difference between the Silent and Live Auctions? The online Silent Auction opens for bidding on Monday, Oct. 12 at 12 p.m. and closes Friday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. We’ve gathered an enticing array of unique items and experiences for your bidding pleasure! Our 10 one-of-a-kind Live Auction packages will open for bidding online on Thursday, Oct.15 at 7 p.m. so you can get a head start on your bidding! Our auctioneer will close the Live Auction packages during our livestreamed event on Friday, Oct. 16 from 7-8 p.m. How does online bidding work? Online bidding is as easy as one, two, three! Follow these steps once the Online Silent Auction opens on Monday, Oct. 12. 1. Register for the event by visiting our event website. 2. On Oct.12, you’ll receive the link to our Online Bidding website. 3. On the Online Bidding website, select “Start Bidding” in the upper right corner and create an online bidding account. Creating an online bidding account is free but is required to bid on items and donate to the event online. • Note: this is separate from your program registration. If you need further instruction on how to create your online bidding account, watch this video. Once your online bidding account is created, you’re ready to bid on all of the incredible auction packages, donate to our Fund-A-Need online, and start feeling all warm and fuzzy inside from helping shelter pets in need! If you’d like to learn more about how to bid online, check out this video. 4
What is a livestream? A livestream is a program that is simultaneously recorded and broadcast in real time. We will broadcast Animal Krackers on YouTube on Friday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. You can watch the livestreamed event on any device with a web browser: your computer, tablet, smartphone, or even a smart TV! We recommend having two screens available during the live event on Oct. 16 — one to watch the livestreamed event and one to bid and donate! What if I am unable to attend the livestreamed event? While we hope you can tune in for our exciting live event on Oct. 16, if you’re unable to join us, you can still participate in our Online Silent Auction from Oct. 12-16 and donate to our Fund-A-Need online at your convenience through Sunday, Oct. 18. Fund-A-Need We’re here when people and pets need us most. Animal Krackers, our biggest fundraiser of the year, provides essential funding that makes an impact year-round. Your donations to the Fund-A-Need equip our shelter team with the critical resources they need to save and improve the lives of injured, abandoned, and at-risk animals who need us. In these unprecedented times, your Fund-A- Need contribution supports our vital efforts to go above and beyond for vulnerable animals and find them the forever homes and loving families they deserve. You can be part of our pet lifesaving Fund-A-Need by giving online now, or by joining us on Oct. 16 for our livestream event. With your compassionate and generous investment, KHS will continue to “go the extra mile” for animals like Gunner, Hope, and the guinea pigs rescued from a hoarding situation. Their stories exemplify the kind of care that your gift makes possible. Please, give generously! Guinea Pigs Galore! When an anonymous tip came in about a hoarding situation involving 54 guinea pigs – mostly pregnant females – KHS Animal Control officers located the animals living outdoors in inappropriate, filthy housing conditions and brought them to safety at KHS. Thankfully, all of the guinea pigs were saved, and nearly all went into loving foster homes to have their babies – or to await a determination about whether they were in the early stages of pregnancy – until they were ready for adoption. Still others went to rescue groups for adoption placement. When people and pets need help, KHS is there, thanks to the support of donors, foster families, and partner groups. 11
An Enriched Life for Gunner Gunner came to the shelter as a stray who initially showed signs of discomfort and fear when being touched. Our behavior and training staff conducted an assessment and created a plan to provide him with enrichment activities to help him become more trusting, comfortable, and relaxed with people. Our enrichment volunteers have had so much fun working with Gunner, who enjoys playtime in the pool, playing fetch, going on walks, and snuggling on the couch in the relax room. He’s making so much progress, and our team expects that he will be adopted soon! Hope Gets a Second Chance Meet Hope! This sweet kitty was discovered in the crawlspace of an empty home – without food and water – by the people preparing to move into the house. They rushed her to KHS for help. Our veterinarians discovered that she was not only emaciated but had liver issues, as well. We weren’t sure she would make it, but little by little she improved and began to eat. This gave us so much hope! Now this little gal has recovered with the love and support of a volunteer foster home and has found her forever home! Happy life, Hope! 12
