Based on the three pillars of careers, education and settlement, the fair aims to help immigrants who need information and inspiration as they look for jobs, go back to school and settle into their new home. Our mission is to connect these immigrants with immigrant service providers, educational institutes, government services, employers and recruiters in a dynamic, face-to-face environment. With that in mind, due to the pandemic, in 2020 we launched a virtual version of our Canadian Immigrant Fairs with the same elements as our in person fairs, all done online. ONLINE EVENTS CANADIAN IMMIGRANT WEB CONFERENCE SERIES Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the 2020 events planned for Canadian Immigrant were put on hold. With that, we have launched a sector specific web conference series for Internationally Educated Professionals (IEPs). In 2020, we saw over 1,800 people registered for these webinars, with topics ranging from Nursing, Law, IT, Engineering and Accounting. These 90 minute sector specific webinar had a speaker presenting on the topic at hand and was accompanied by a soft skill speaker and career coach to round out the presentations for all attending. ONLINE EVENTS PRESENTS On the lines of our in-person fairs, these two Virtual fairs offer a dynamic environment for immigrants who need help as they look for jobs, go back to school and settle into their new home. Virtual attendees had the opportunity to connect with exhibitors at the Fair, including employers, recruiters, immigrant service providers, educational institutions and more. Along with the speaker sessions, attendees were able to upload their resumes for the always popular resume critiquing to be provided valuable feedback after the event. AWARDS In 2009, Canadian Immigrant launched the only national awards program that recognizes the achievements of immigrants to Canada, with the support of founding and title sponsor RBC Royal Bank. Some of the past winners include former Governor Generals of Canada Adrienne Clarkson and Michaëlle Jean, national broadcaster Ian Hanomansing, star chef Vikram Vij, entrepreneur/film producer Ajay Virmani and ballerina/artistic director Chan Hon Goh, to name just a few. In 2020, we celebrated the 12th annual RBC Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards. With this group of winners, 300 inspirational immigrants will have been recognized 70,000+ by the awards over the last decade! This is a historic milestone that recognizes the NUMBER OF VOTES IN 2020 amazing contributions immigrants make to Canada, and we’re looking forward to recognizing more winners with this honour this year. HOW DO THE AWARDS WORK? This national award asks readers to nominate and then vote online directly for A SPECIAL individuals who have made a difference since their arrival in Canada, whether OPPORTUNITY in business, academia, the arts or community service.
