03. Driving Performance Choice of Powertrains The New Generation i30 is powered by a range of small-displacement turbo charged petrol and diesel engines delivering a dynamic and efficient driving experience. There are three petrol engines and one diesel engine. All engines come standard with Integrated Stop and Go (ISG) system for increased efficiency. Customers can choose between the new 1.4 T-GDI turbocharged four cylinder engine – a Hyundai first - with 140 PS, the 1.0 T-GDI turbocharged three cylinder engine with 120 PS or the 1.4 MPI four cylinder with 100 PS and one diesel engine: the 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine, available with three power outputs: 95, 110 and 136 PS and fuel consumption and CO2 emissions starting from as low as 3.4 l/100 km* and 89 g/km*. Mated to the engines is either the six-speed manual transmission (6MT) or Hyundai’s efficient and direct-responding seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (7DCT). New 1.4 T-GDI – Light, Frugal and Fun to Drive The 1,353 cc four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine is significantly lighter than its predecessor, the Gamma 1.4-litre engine. The unit’s base weight has been reduced by 14 kg and it also boasts greater efficiency and power, delivering 140 PS and 242 Nm of torque with fuel consumption and CO2 emissions as low as 4.8 l/100 km* and 109 g/km*. The new engine incorporates a high-pressure single-scroll turbocharger integrated in the exhaust manifold to improve operational efficiency. The relocated and re-engineered turbo means throttle response time and low-end torque have improved. The new design injects fuel directly inside the cylinder, improving combustion rates for better power and fuel efficiency. The new, turbocharged 1.4-litre T-GDI petrol engine is offered with the 6MT or the 7DCT, which gives a choice of fully automatic operation or manual gear changes. The 1.0 T-GDI – Three-Cylinder Dynamism The 1.0 T-GDI engine, developed by the Namyang Technical Centre in Korea in collaboration with the European Technical Centre in Germany, with 120 PS and 171 Nm provides a perfect combination of dynamism and efficiency with fuel consumption and CO2 starting from as low as 4.5 l/100 km* and 103 g/km*. A turbocharger with an electronically-controlled waste-gate actuator improves fuel efficiency by lowering pumping losses as well as improving throttle response and low-end torque. The unit features a six-hole GDI injector, pressured to a higher-than-average 200 bar, securing a clean combustion and improving fuel economy and emissions. To keep the engine unit as small as possible, the exhaust manifold is integrated in the cylinder head and can therefore be cooled efficiently using the cylinder head water-cooling system. These efforts result in faster warm-up of the catalyst and ultimately in improved real-world fuel consumption and emissions. The 1.0 T-GDI is offered with the 6MT.
1.6-litre Turbo Diesel: One Engine, Three Outputs For customers looking for a diesel engine, the New Generation Hyundai i30 is offered with a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder turbo engine with three outputs: the ‘standard power’ version with 95 PS, the ‘mid power’ version with 110 PS and the ‘high power’ version with 136 PS, delivering a maximum torque of 280 Nm or 300 Nm (‘high power’ version with DCT). Both the mid power and high power version can be selected with the 6MT or 7DCT. The Seven-Speed Dual-Clutch Transmission Hyundai Motor introduced its first seven-speed double-clutch transmission in 2015, combining the benefits of automated and manual transmissions. The 7DCT provides an improvement in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of up to 20 % compared to a conventional six-gear automated transmission, while acceleration performance could be increased by up to 10 %. The 7DCT consists of two dry clutches and an actuator for each clutch. Engine power is transferred independently into the odd and even gear train to always be ready to shift into the next gear without any torque interruption. For optimised responsiveness the electric motor-driven actuator is applied, while external dampers improve the noise, vibration and harshness during driving. In combination with the 7-speed dual clutch transmission the New Generation i30 offers two drive modes: normal and sport. In sport mode there is a different shift pattern holding gears longer before shifting, the steering provides a sporty feel and the throttle response is adapted. *Based on NEDC Test Cycle. Fuel Consumption and emission values vary depending on tire size and transmission type. Ride and Handling The New Generation i30 has been developed and tested in Europe performing accelerated durability tests and dynamic testing on the most demanding race track in the world, the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife, as well as undergoing rigorous public-road testing throughout Europe from the coldest winter testing conditions in Sweden to trailer testing in the Alps and hot weather testing in the south of Spain to ensure that the high expectations of European customers are met. The development engineers have defined the characteristics of the New Generation i30; precise, natural and connected steering; agile, responsive and predictable handling; a dynamic ride without compromising comfort with good body control. Compared to its predecessor the motor-driven power steering is 10 % more direct and the vehicle response is 15 milliseconds faster. The new chassis of the New Generation i30 has been completely reworked to provide a dynamic and compliant driving experience with high levels of ride comfort. Contributing to this is the standard multi-link rear suspension for all versions with a dual lower arm and the performance-oriented shock absorbers. Braking performance is optimised by an increased brake diameter size to 288 mm in the front allowing the driver to apply a stronger braking force especially in hot wheel conditions. Strong and Lightweight Body: 53 % Advanced High-Strength Steel Hyundai Motor is the only car manufacturer to make its own steel for the production of its vehicles globally with great benefits for the New Generation i30 featuring a strong and light body that enhances the dynamic performance and increases passenger safety.
The quantity of Advanced High Strength Steel has almost doubled to 53 % while at the same time reducing the weight of the body-in-white by 28 kg and increasing rigidity by 22 % in comparison to its predecessor. In production, the structural adhesives length has been increased to 112 m, improving stiffness while reducing weight. 04. Connected and Caring Smart connectivity features that most customers require make the New Generation i30 a smart, rewarding choice. Customers can choose between the standard premium audio system with a five-inch capacitive LCD touch screen with integrated dynamic rear-view camera, Bluetooth connectivity and My Music functionality or the optional new generation navigation system with an eight-inch capacitive touch screen. For drivers who want to connect their smartphones with the eight-inch navigation system the New Generation i30 provides both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Both systems enable users to connect their devices to deliver and control music, telephone or navigation functions on-screen. Seamless connectivity allows drivers and passengers to stay connected while remaining focused on the road. To ensure that occupants’ phones are always charged, the New Generation i30 also offers a wireless inductive charging pad (Qi standard) for mobile phones and a USB port located in the closed centre console. The new navigation system comes with a seven-year free subscription to LIVE services. LIVE Services offer updated information in real time: weather, traffic, speed cameras and online searches for points of interest. The navigation system features 3D maps and is capable to display photos if you connect an USB stick. Highest Active Safety The New Generation i30 features the latest active safety features to comply with the highest European safety standards: Autonomous Emergency Braking with Front Collision Warning System (standard), Smart Cruise Control, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Keeping Assist System (standard), Speed Limit Information Function and High Beam Assist (standard). New to the Hyundai line-up is the Driver Attention Alert (standard) giving the New Generation i30 all available active safety features available for Hyundai Motor vehicles and making it the car with the most advanced safety package and the longest list of standard active safety features in its class. Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection. The i30 is also fitted with AEB including Front Collision Warning System (FCWS) and pedestrian detection, an advanced active safety feature that alerts drivers to emergency situations, braking autonomously if required. Using front radar and camera sensors, AEB operates in three stages. Initially warning the driver visually and acoustically, it controls the brake according to the collision danger stage, and applies maximum braking force right before the to avoid a collision or minimise damage when a collision is unavoidable. When a vehicle or pedestrian is sensed in front of the car, the system is activated, operating at speeds of 10 km/h or above. Driver Attention Alert (DAA) First in a Hyundai Motor vehicle is the Driver Attention Alert, a driver protection feature which helps monitor driving patterns in order to detect reckless or fatigued driving and prevent potential accidents. The system analyses various vehicle signals such as steering angle, steering torque, vehicle’s position in the lane and driving time. In addition, the driver can adjust a user-selectable setting for the system’s sensitivity. If the system detects inattentive driving patterns an audible sound and message on the instrument display panel will alert the driver.
Advanced Smart Cruise Control (ASCC) Using front radar sensors, ASCC keeps a constant speed and distance from the vehicle ahead by automatically accelerating and braking. If the traffic comes to a halt, the system applies the brake until the car comes to a stand still and accelerates to the desired speed as soon as the road is clear. If the vehicle stops for longer than three seconds the driver has to activate the system again by the steering wheel controls or by briefly pressing the accelerator pedal. The system operates from 0 to 180 km/h. Blind Spot Detector (BSD) Also using radar technology, the Blind Spot Detector (BSD) with Lane Change Assist monitors the rear corners and, if another vehicle is detected, a visual alert appears on the exterior mirrors. If the driver then activates the indicators an audible signal is emitted. This also applies for a lane change situation when another vehicle is detected. Rear-Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) Using the BSD sensors the RCTA system reduces the risk of collision with approaching traffic when reversing out of narrow areas with low visibility. Using a radar to scan a 180-degree area behind the vehicle for approaching cross-traffic, RCTA alerts the driver visually and acoustically. Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) The LKAS alerts the driver in unsafe movements at over 60 km/h by sensing the car’s position. The LDWS sounds an alarm before the car moves over white, grey and blue lines as well as Bott’s dots on the road, while the LKAS warns the driver acoustically and visually before inducing corrective steering to guide the driver back to a safe position. Speed Limit Information Function (SLIF) The SLIF uses the front camera and information from the navigation system to identify road speed signs and display the speed limit in real time. The information is displayed both in the navigation system display as well as in the TFT cluster. High Beam Assist (HBA) When switched to automatic mode, HBA detects both oncoming vehicles and vehicles in the same lane ahead at night and changes to low-beam as appropriate, reducing blinding effects on other drivers. Whenever there are no vehicles detected, the system automatically re-activates the high beams, maximising the driver’s range of vision. Highest Passive Safety Featuring 53 % Advanced High Strength Steel, the New Generation i30 benefits from increased rigidity by 22 % and a high impact energy absorption and minimised distortion to protect passengers in the event of a collision. Thanks to an improved hot stamping method, the side outer reinforcement of the New Generation i30 is manufactured as one single component. Previously, there were five combined components. The completely new technology reduces weight by 4.1 kg and increases rigidity and impact energy absorption.
Around the interior of the New Generation i30, a total of seven airbags are installed, including a knee airbag for the driver. Beside the six standard airbags (2 front airbags, two side airbags to curtain airbags from first to second row protecting both driver and passengers), the knee airbag is an additional safety feature for the driver in the event of a front collision.

It is more than a model – it is a family of cars consisting of four body types, each with a unique character, and united by a coherent, timeless design. With the new i30 Wagon we are now introducing the next body type, offering elegance and versatility for everyone.” “The New Generation i30 Wagon speaks the language of the i30 family in terms of design, and it carries the new Hyundai family identity - the Cascading Grille,” explains Thomas Bürkle, Chief Designer at Hyundai Design Centre Europe. “The tapering roofline and dynamic proportions give the Wagon an almost coupé-like silhouette. The sleek and dynamic profile is further emphasised by a rich chrome frame surrounding the side windows.” In combination with the full-LED headlamps and the vertical LED daytime running lights, the New Generation i30 Wagon has a strong visual presence. High versatility with one of the biggest boots in the segment The i30 Wagon’s sleek design does not compromise boot space: with 602 litres of space (VDA 211) and 1,650 litres (VDA 214) with the seats folded, it has one of the biggest boots in the segment. Versatility is further enhanced by the additional storage space beneath the boot floor with several compartments. The overall length of the wagon is 4,585 mm (5-door version: 4,340 mm) and the height is 1,465 mm (1,475 mm with roof rack). The overall width of 1,795 mm and wheelbase of 2,650 mm are the same as in the five-door version.
Best-in-class standard safety package Hyundai Motor democratises technology by offering the latest active safety and connectivity features for the New Generation i30 Wagon. The i30 offers best-in-class standard active safety, with Autonomous Emergency Braking, Driver Attention Alert, High Beam Assist and Lane Keeping Assist System always on board. Using camera sensors, the Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) fitted in the i30 operates in three stages. After initially warning the driver visually and acoustically, it then controls the brake according to the collision danger stage and applies maximum braking force to avoid a collision or minimise damage when a collision is unavoidable. The optional pedestrian recognition uses a front radar and avoids or mitigates the consequence of an impact with a pedestrian. Driver Attention Alert (DAA) is a driver protection feature that helps monitor driving patterns in order to detect reckless or fatigued driving and prevent potential accidents. Advanced Smart Cruise Control (ASCC) keeps a constant speed and distance from the vehicle ahead by automatically accelerating and braking up to 180 km/h. If the traffic comes to a halt, the system applies the brake until the car comes to a standstill and accelerates to the desired speed as soon as the road is clear. The Blind Spot Detector (BSD) with Lane Change Assist monitors the rear corners and, if another vehicle is detected, a visual alert appears on the exterior mirrors. The Rear-Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) system reduces the risk of collision with approaching traffic when reversing out of narrow areas with low visibility by alerting the driver visually and acoustically. The Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) alerts the driver about unsafe movements at speeds over 60 km/h by sensing the car’s position. It warns the driver acoustically and visually before inducing corrective steering to guide the driver back to a safe position. The Speed Limit Information Function (SLIF) identifies road speed signs and displays the speed limit in real time. The information is shown both in the navigation system display as well as in the TFT cluster. A High Beam Assist (HBA) detects both oncoming vehicles and vehicles in the same lane ahead at night and changes to low-beam lights as appropriate, thereby reducing blinding effects on other drivers. Whenever there are no vehicles detected, HBA automatically re-activates the high beams, maximising the driver’s range of vision. Smart and connected The i30 Wagon offers customers a spacious and elegant interior with a horizontal layout and free-floating screen for the infotainment system. The eight-inch touch screen of the new-generation navigation system offers state-of-the-art connectivity features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and LIVE Services. A wireless charging system for smartphones with the Qi standard is available as well. As an alternative, customers can choose between different audio options, including the audio system with a five-inch capacitive LCD touch screen with integrated dynamic rear-view camera, Bluetooth connectivity and My Music functionality. Dynamic and efficient powertrains The powertrain line-up of the i30 Wagon consists of downsized turbocharged engines that enhance efficiency and responsiveness. Customers can choose from three petrol engines and one 1.6-litre turbo
diesel engine featuring two power outputs (110 or 136 PS). The Wagon is available with Hyundai’s all-new turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, the 1.4 T-GDi which delivers a maximum power of 140 PS (Fuel consumption combined: 5.5 – 5.0 l/100 km; urban: 6.7 – 6.0 l/100 km; extra-urban: 5.0 - 4.6 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 129 - 114 g/km*). The new three- cylinder 1.0 T-GDi delivers maximum power of 120 PS (Fuel consumption combined: 5.2 – 4.9 l/100 km; urban: 6.0 – 5.9 l/100 km; extra-urban: 4.6 - 4.4 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 120 - 115 g/km*). Driving dynamics The engineers of Hyundai Motor Europe’s Technical Centre in Germany enhanced the driving dynamics of the New Generation i30 in a rigorous testing programme throughout Europe and on the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife. The highly rigid and light body with 53% Advanced High Strength Steel provides the basis for good ride and handling characteristics, and the fact that it is combined with 10% more direct steering and a newly developed chassis means the driver can enjoy dynamic driving together with high levels of comfort. Made in Europe Designed in Hyundai Motor Europe’s Technical Centre in Rüsselsheim, produced in Nošovice, Czech Republic, and tested on the Nürburgring, the third-generation i30 family is built on the infrastructure that Hyundai Motor has developed over the last 25 years in Europe. It aims to continue the success of the two previous generations of i30, which have sold more than 800,000 cars in Europe since 2008. 01 Exhilarating driving pleasure for everyone – the Hyundai i30 N The i30 N marks a new era for Hyundai Motor – introducing the first high-performance model under the N line up, built to deliver exhilarating driving pleasure for everyone N was born in Namyang and honed at the Nürburgring. The ‘N’ symbolises a chicane, the essence of Hyundai Motor’s high-performance car development High power: the four-cylinder 2.0-litre T-GDI turbo engine delivers up to 275 PS and 353 Nm torque with high responsiveness and linear power output High-performance features: Electronic Limited Slip Differential, Electronic Controlled Suspension, Rev Matching, Launch Control, high-performance tyres, lap timer, and more High level of customisation: five different drive modes, including the N and N Custom modes, offer variety of different configurations from comfort-oriented daily commuting to race track performance Emotional sound thanks to a variable exhaust valve system True performance design: aggressive front and rear bumpers with larger air intakes and red character line, aerodynamic rear spoiler with triangular brake light, dual muffler exhaust, 18- and 19-inch wheels, sport seats, Performance Blue exterior colour inspired by Hyundai Motorsport The i30 N is Hyundai Motor’s first high-performance car under the N line up. Built on the New Generation i30, the i30 N has been developed from the ground up to deliver maximum driving pleasure in everyday life on the road, as well as on the track. N was born in Namyang, at Hyundai Motor’s global R&D Centre in Korea, and honed at the Nürburgring, one of the most challenging race tracks in the world and home of Hyundai’s Testing Center. The N logo symbolises a chicane, the ultimate corner where the i30 N has been tested thoroughly and has proven its ability. The i30 N is inspired by Hyundai Motorsport’s experience in WRC since 2014. “The Hyundai i30 N has been developed for no other purpose than to deliver maximum driving fun to our customers in an accessible high-performance package,” says Albert Biermann, Executive Vice President Performance Development and High Performance Vehicle Division. “With the high-performance N models we will enhance our brand’s appeal with emotional products that cater to the needs of people who love to have a smile on their face when they drive their car on a winding road and listen to the sound of the engine. That’s why we measure high-performance in BPM, heart beats per minute instead of only RPM.” The i30 N is Hyundai Motor’s answer to emerging customer preferences towards uncompromising innovation and technology-driven performance. Due to be launched across Europe by the end of 2017, the All-New i30 N is made for people to experience a contented grin when driving a performance car. Part of the i30 range, the i30 N sports a unique character and coherent, timeless design – including the Cascading Grille at the front, the new Hyundai signature, which is characterised by a downward tapering gesture inspired by the flow of molten steel. Focused on Fun to Drive The i30 N has been developed on the basis of three corner stones under the theme ‘Fun to Drive’: Corner Rascal, Everyday Sports Car and Race Track Capability. The i30 N has been developed to make the driver’s heart beat faster when he or she gets behind the wheel. Instead of focusing on pure numbers, Hyundai Motor has chosen to emphasise driving pleasure and the emotional impact on the driver’s heartbeats per minute (BPM), rather than simply measuring revs per minute (RPM). When the driver hits the throttle and shifts through the gears, the Rev matching
function supports smooth gear shifting, while the overboost function increases torque (+8%) and acceleration (+6-7%). The feeling is enhanced by the car’s emotional sound from the dual muffler exhaust featuring the variable exhaust valve system. The cockpit of the i30 N shows key performance parameters through the new instrument cluster and the 8-inch free-floating screen’s modes such as the G-Force meter for live tracking of the performance. The design is based on true high-performance vehicles and includes Hyundai’s Cascading Grille at the front, aggressive-looking front and rear bumpers, and a new rear spoiler. According to the principle “form follows function”, the car design enhances aerodynamic and cooling performance. Its operation focuses on the pure connection between the car and the driver. The i30 N is built around the driver for maximum responsiveness, balanced performance and fun to drive. Corner Rascal The i30 N loves corners. The N logo symbolises a chicane, the ultimate part of the track where the i30 N achieves maximum traction, precision and feeling. The powerful 2.0-litre turbocharged engine delivers up to 275 PS and 353 Nm torque. It offers direct response with a linear power development through the early responding turbo charger. It features front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission. The i30 N’s maximum grip is guaranteed by the 18-inch Michelin or 19-inch Pirelli high-performance Hyundai N tyres. The rack-mounted motor-driven power steering is very direct and offers high precision. The lowered body is rigid and in combination with the Electronic Controlled Suspension (ECS) reduces roll and enhances cornering speed, enabling the driver to adjust the dampers from comfort-oriented daily commuting to high-performance track-driving. The i30 N is aerodynamically designed to reduce lift to keep the body firmly on to the road when maximum traction is required. The Electronic Limited Slip Differential (E-LSD) enhances grip and delivers maximum power to the road. For the real enthusiasts the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) can be switched off completely for maximum freedom. In order to give the driver and passenger the maximum comfort, the exclusively developed N sport seats offer maximum stability and lateral support in all driving situations. Everyday Sports Car The i30 N is an everyday sports car, suitable for daily commuting in comfort on weekdays or for race track performance on the weekend. By offering a great variety of customisation options, the i30 N is a well- balanced hatchback, offering performance and practicality to create the best feeling for the driver. There are five drive modes, including Eco, Normal, Sport, N and N Custom settings, which can be selected by using two dedicated buttons on the steering wheel. The different modes change the character of the car, adjusting the high-performance parameters of the engine, the dampers, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Electronic Limited Slip Differential (E-LSD), sound, steering and Rev matching. Additionally, the driver can select the Rev matching button on the steering wheel to increase the revs on the engine when shifting from a higher to a lower gear, while the car’s Launch Control helps to launch the car as easy as possible by controlling engine torque. Race Track Capability In the development of the vehicle, durability and racetrack performance were key elements. The i30 N has undergone 10,000 km of driving on the Nordschleife at the Nürburgring circuit for durability testing. The car has also taken part twice in the world’s toughest endurance test, the ADAC 24-hours race on the Nürburgring. The engine and its components have been tested for total vehicle evaluation in 2016 and for ensuring its overall race track capability in 2017. Thus, when taking the i30 N to a track day, the driver can
be sure that the car’s performance will endure. Its brakes have been developed to last with an extra cooling function through the air intakes on the front bumper. The Electronic Controlled Suspension (ECS) allows the driver to adjust the i30 N to best suit a race track’s requirements. The body’s high rigidity is increased by the rear stiffness bar behind the rear seats. The car features a strong clutch that is built to last, while the precise six-speed manual transmission has short travel to enhance fast shifting. 02 Hyundai Motor N line up: born in Namyang, honed at the Nürburgring The Hyundai i30 N is Hyundai Motor’s first high-performance model under the N line up. The ‘N’ stands for Namyang, Hyundai Motor’s global R&D Centre in Korea, where the idea was born, and for the Nürburgring, home to Hyundai Motor’s European Test Centre, where the N line upwas further developed and tested. The close connection between Namyang and Nürburgring created the foundation for N, the goal being to deliver driving enjoyment. Symbolising a chicane, the ‘N’ logo embodies this aspect – an agile vehicle that is fun to drive – and represents the ultimate driving experience on winding roads. Inspired by Motorsport - the proven track record of Hyundai Born at the start of 2013 and based in Alzenau, Germany, Hyundai Motorsport was set up to develop a long-term motor sport programme that demonstrates the emotion and engineering which Hyundai puts into its cars. For the last four years Hyundai Motorsport has participated successfully in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), regarded as one of the most challenging and diverse motor sport disciplines: 2013: Launch of i20 WRC. 2014: - Re-entry to the World Rally Championship - With i20 WRC Hyundai Motorsport takes four podiums and finishes WRC in fourth position in the manufacturer standings. 2015: - Launch of the Hyundai high performance N line up at Frankfurt Motorshow with the concept cars N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo and RM15. - Hyundai takes four podiums and finishes WRC in third position. 2016: - Launch of high-performance racing concepts RM16 at Busan Motor Show and RN30 at Paris Motor Show. - Hyundai takes seven podiums and finishes WRC in second position. 2017: - The dawn of a new era in the sport with the introduction of new technical regulations resulting in more distinctive, powerful and dramatic-looking WRC cars. - Launch of Hyundai’s first mass-produced high-performance car i30 N. - Hyundai takes six podiums in half of the season and currently ranks second in WRC drivers and team rankings. Hyundai’s high-performance concepts have been derived during the development of WRC cars. That is why the WRC is considered to be the cradle of the N line up, thus for the i30 N. During the races, with cars competing on roads of gravel, tarmac, snow and ice, the Hyundai Motor engineers identify further
refinement and potential performance enhancements for the i30 N. Nürburgring Testing Center The Nürburgring Nordschleife was and continues to be used to hone N’s high-performance technologies. This year, the iconic Nürburgring race track turns 90 and is known as one of the world’s most challenging race tracks. With 73 corners and 20.8 kilometres of tarmac, it is also a motorsports complex and home to Hyundai Motor’s own 3,600 square metre testing centre, operated by the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center. Hyundai Motor’s accelerated durability tests are conducted there. Each car taking part in the tests laps the Nürburgring 420 to 480 times in both dry and wet conditions, simulating up to 180,000 km of severe driving –the equivalent of a normal vehicle’s lifecycle – in just four weeks. Namyang R&D Center: Birthplace of the i30 N Opened in 1995 in Hwaseong, South Korea, and employing 13,000 researchers, the Namyang R&D Center is the heart of Hyundai Motor’s global R&D network and the birthplace of the new i30 N. Located on over 3.3 million square metres of land, it consists of various centres for design and engineering, power train, performance and test driving, an aero-acoustic wind tunnel, and environmental R&D. It is host to 34 roads, including a Belgian road, and a high-speed track that is 4.5 km long. In all, the site features a total road length of 70 km. The i30 N’s great road holding is the result of months of testing the aerodynamics at Hyundai’s Namyang Technology Research Centre in Korea and in the wind tunnel. Produced in Europe The i30 N will be produced at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech in Nošovice (HMMC). The facility opened in 2008 and started production of the first generation i30 the same year. It has an annual production capacity of 350,000 cars and fulfils the highest quality standards to meet European customers’ expectations. The HMMC facility also features a 3.3 km open test track on the factory grounds, ensuring that every vehicle is tested for dynamic properties, noise and functions, along with a full underbody check for fluid leakage and correct assembly. Each component used in the i30 N makes Hyundai Motor’s first high-performance vehicle more agile and dynamic. This is what the Hyundai N line up stands for: The N-badged Hyundai focuses on taking the vehicle beyond its role of being just a means of transportation. It offers the customer the thrill and excitement of driving a high-performance car and becoming one with the car as it moves through corners at speed. 03 Designed by the pursuit of performance The i30 N is focused on true performance features, while markedly enhancing the experience of those behind the wheel. It sports unique high-performance design elements such as aggressive-looking front and rear bumpers and a new rear spoiler, paired with the coherent, timeless design of the i30 range. According to the principle “form follows function”, designers worked closely with aerodynamic specialists to define the right ratio between the car’s downforce, drag and aerodynamics to create the best possible driving experience. The resulting lowered body together with the newly designed aerodynamics give the car its sporty silhouette and strong stance, while enhancing road balance and race track capabilities.
