Good for the Mind & Great for the Heart
The way we choose to spend our time
and the activities in which we engage help
form our value system. With a wide array of
                  possibilities and opportunities, volunteering
is a positive and vastly beneficial way of
helping young people develop a strong sense
    Dr. Shari of self.
   Sweetnam Volunteering offers benefits spanning
from the intellectual and spiritual to the
educational and professional. As young people give of
themselves and their time, they can learn about being
selfless. In a busy world of “pursuit of personal happiness,”
too often the intrinsic values of empathy and giving are the
lessons that are overlooked. Helping others via a structured
volunteer program is a positive and safe way to develop
  oneself in this regard.
As Mahatma Gandhi said, “The best way to find yourself,
is to lose yourself in the service of others.” Teens who
experience growth at an early age are likely to continue
  cultivating positive behavior and friendships.

                On Tuesdays, a beautiful golden
retriever named Lacy visits the Fern
campus and is a furry, soft, and
Dr. Michael inviting friend for Fern students
Remland to read too. Third grade students
Principal are selected by their teachers to
read a book to Lacy during their
classrooms designated reading time. One lucky
student at a time will meet Lacy and her handler
on the old kindergarten patio with a good book,
and on a blanket get to read Lacy a book of their
choice. Lacy is a great reading buddy who loves to
hear a good story and is super friendly with all her
student friends. Our third-grade teachers choose
4 lucky students per week to read with Lacy.
This special reading time is research proven to
increase a student’s words read per minute as well
as their reading comprehension. We are so happy
to host Lacy and her friends with Bark Reading

Shining a Light on Young Artist
Each school year Lincoln students have
an opportunity to display their creative
prowess by entering in our annual Yearbook
Cover Contest. With the school’s theme as a
                 starting point (This year it’s We’re Better…
Together.), each participant is tasked with
Katherine creating a bright, colorful, eye-catching
Castleberry drawing that will be voted on as the school’s
Principal yearbook cover. Also, the four runner-up
drawings are used for the back cover of the
yearbook. As is always the case, the students come up with
the most amazing ideas to celebrate
 the school’s theme. Images often
 include students playing, enjoying
 each other’s company and definitely
 hanging out with Lincoln’s lovable
mascot Linc the Lion. This contest
is just one of the ways we are
able to highlight the talents of
 our Lincoln Lions…and truly
 memorialize their artistic gifts.
Here are this year’s top finishers…

She was determined to be a role model for her

Ruby’s English skills improved, her confidence

Hall and IAs Sonali Patel and Cecile Setian said
of Ruby, “She was an enthusiastic and motivated
learner who was determined to become a U.S.
citizen. We knew she was prepared and would
  easily pass the exam.”
