Santee Cooper Power Associates- 2 year Scholarship Program DEADLINE: January 27 • Santee Cooper's Power Associate Program is a competitive scholarship program that prepares high school graduates for rewarding technical careers in the electric utility industry. Students can attend Trident Technical College, Orangeburg-Calhoun or Horry-Georgetown Technical College. Scholarship information and applications can be found at www.hamptonwildlifefund.org/scholarship.html Harry Hampton Scholarship-$5,000 (4 years) for students in the natural resources disciplines of wildlife biology, fisheries biology, forestry, marine or environmental science. Wallace F. Pate Scholarship- $2,500 (1 year) for students in the natural resources disciplines of wildlife biology, fisheries biology, forestry, marine or environmental science. Natural resource students may apply for the Hampton and Pate scholarships together on one application, but are eligible to be awarded only on. Agriculture, general biology, pre-medical biology, and veterinary science are NOT eligible curricula for these scholarships. David M. Cline Scholarship- $2,000 (1 year) for students who wish to further their education in law enforcement/ criminal justice/ forensic science. Pre-medical curricula on a path to forensic medicine does NOT qualify for this scholarship. James O. Thomason Scholarship- $2,000 (4 years) for students who wish to further their education in print or photo journalism, advertising, public relations or mass communications. This scholarship requires the student to submit a topical essay. Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Scholarships: Amount Varies DEADLINE: January 31 DAR will award multiple scholarships in multiple subject areas to graduating high school seniors. • Online application for multiple scholarships As you prepare to begin your online scholarship application offered by DAR, please have the following documents and information ready to enter and/or upload into our system. All submitted information should be typed or computer generated. Please note, once a document is uploaded into your application, it cannot be deleted or changed. • A personal statement of 1,000 words or less setting forth the your career objectives. • A recent copy of your high school transcript and/or college and graduate school transcripts, as applicable. Home-schooled students must include transcripts for grade nine through final year. If selected as a scholarship recipient you will be required to submit an official copy mailed/emailed to DAR. Please note, DAR no longer requires SAT or ACT scores, or class size or class rank on your transcripts if you are a graduating high school student.
• Information required by specific scholarships such as financial need information, a letter of acceptance into a special program or a transcript stating you are in a special program like nursing or medicine, proof of tribal membership if a Native American, or special test scores if in a graduate program (such as MCAT or LSAT). • Proof of United States citizenship; please photocopy one of the following documents: a birth certificate, naturalization papers, or the information page of your United States Passport. February South Carolina Federal Credit Union DEADLINE: February 1 South Carolina Federal Credit Union is awarding nine scholarships, with denominations between $2,500 and $10,000. Please click HERE for the official scholarship rules. • Recommendation letter from someone who can provide an academic or professional reference, such as a teacher or guidance counselor from high school or college, or a supervisor from a current or past job. Eligibility criteria: • Students must currently be enrolled in twelfth grade in a public school in South Carolina. • Students must plan to attend a South Carolina college or university. • Students must be a U.S. citizen and have attended public school in South Carolina for the past two years. • Students may only apply for one scholarship (Creative Writing, Music, Dance, Visual Art, and Theatre). • Creative Writing—An entry is defined as an original composition in the form of a sonnet, lyric, or narrative poem. The composition should not exceed two, double-spaced pages in length, originated by the applicant. • Dance—An entry is defined as an original, short dance composition of three to ten minutes composed for solo or ensemble dancers in any appropriate movement style, originated by the applicant. • Music—An entry is defined as an original composition of three to ten minutes for solo or small ensemble (recommended no more than five parts), vocal, or instrumental in any appropriate style, originated by the applicant. • Theatre—An entry is defined as an original, one-act play with a performing time of eight to fifteen minutes, originated by the applicant. • Visual Arts—An entry is defined as an original artwork that must be a completed, rendered visual composition originated by the applicant. Art is limited to two-dimensional work such as drawing, painting, mixed media, printmaking, and collage. Two scholarships are for students pursuing a degree in Education. The other two scholarship winners can pursue a degree in Education or any other major. Scholarship winners will be selected based upon the following criteria of equal point value: Criteria Points 1. A personal essay of 350 - 500 words that reflects proper conventions of writing and fully addresses the required discussion points (See Application Checklist for discussion points.) 50 points 2. GPA, based on the applicant’s Spring 2022 High School transcript. 20 points 3. School, community, service, leadership and/or work activities and experiences in which the applicant participated during grades 9-12, including leadership positions held. 15 points
4. Foundation DEADLINE: March 1 We will award one scholarship for $1000 to a graduating student planning to attend a college or university in the fall, and two scholarships for $500 each to students planning to pursue trade school/certifications. Students can apply for the scholarship at www.GoForeItUSA.com from December 1, 2022 to March 1, 2023. The scholarship will recognize students who exhibit outstanding leadership and continued engagement with the community. Full criteria for the scholarship can be found on the website. Children of Warriors National Presidents’ Scholarship DEADLINE: March 1 The American Legion Auxiliary sponsors the Children of Warriors National Presidents' Scholarship to support the children of our warriors. Carolina Trust & HTC- KEY Scholarship: Amount $1,000 DEADLINE: March 3 • Current high school seniors; cumulative 3.0 GPA; • Accepted by and plan to attend either Coastal Carolina or Francis Marion for at least 4 years. • Be enrolled in a minimum of 12 college credit hours Please click here for application and information. The Edsel J. “Coupe” DeVille Memorial Scholarship DEADLINE: March 3 Type: One-time scholarship This scholarship was created by the Surfside Area Rotary Club in honor of Edsel J. “Coupe” DeVille, a retired Air Force Colonel and the co-founder of Right Flight, an organization that inspired high school students to become future pilots, engineers, and soldiers in the military. Through his work with Right Flight and the Rotary Club, DeVille’s mission was to change lives through the access of education. • Applicants must be graduating seniors from St. James High School or Socastee High School. Horry County students who have family who are members of Surfside Area Rotary Club are also eligible to apply. • Students should have demonstrated involvement in extra-curriculars or community activities and financial need. • This scholarship is not necessarily for “A” students, as academic performance is evaluated on an individual basis in relationship with the student’s full application. Jones Memorial Scholarship DEADLINE: March 3 Type: Renewable scholarship This renewable scholarship is to be awarded to a graduating high school senior or current student at the University of South Carolina’s School of Engineering. • Applicant must attend the University of South Carolina enrolled in the School of Engineering. • A GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale is required. • Applicant must have ties to either Georgetown or Horry County. The Sun News Educational Foundation Scholarship Endowment DEADLINE: March 3 Type: One-time scholarship This is an annual scholarship in the amount of $1,000.00 to be awarded to graduating seniors from high schools in Horry and Georgetown counties entering as full-time students a two-year/junior, technical/community, or four-year college. • 30% – Community Involvement based on student’s self-report and letters of recommendation. • 30% – Leadership qualities as demonstrated in the school-setting as well as in the community based on the student’s personal essay, letters of recommendation, and candidate interview. • 25% – Personal aspirations and ability to overcome obstacles, based on student’s personal essay, letters of recommendation, and candidate interview. • 15% – Academic achievement, ability, and performance, based on GPA and standardized test scores. Sigma Soar for Success DEADLINE: March 10 Each year, during our regional conference, we present one deserving high school senior with a one- time scholarship of$1,000. April HGTC Scholarships: Amount Varies DEADLINE: April 1 Due the generosity of our many supporters, the following scholarships have been established for students with diverse interests and backgrounds. Each scholarship opportunity has unique eligibility requirements. To apply for most of these scholarships, download the Scholarship Application. They must have at least a 2.5 GPA and plans to attend college or trade school in the Fall.
