2021 vWINter meeting Connecting the Experts, Informing the Patients DUBAI, January 27-29, 2021 Connecting the Experts, Informing the Patients A recent scientific publication pointed out a frightening data: 40% of the top shared healthcare web links contained text classified as “FAKE NEWS”. Even more frightening: these fake news have been shared more than 450,000 times (Waszak PM. et al. The spread of medical fake news in social media –The pilot quantitative study . Health Pol Tech 2018;7(2):115-18). As always, the value of a meeting not only weighs in what it provides during the meeting days, rather in what remains afterwards. The v-WINter2021 meeting will bring together the most renowned Experts in the venous & lymphatic field, so to create a consensus document AGAINST Fake News in Phlebo-lymphology. In v-WINter2019, the focus was on Global Guidelines similarities and controversies, and the scientific work is now published as a dedicated supplement of the Phlebology Journal (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/31495256). Differently from the 2019 edition, the v-WINter2021 consensus document will be in the form of an evidence-based booklet, to be addressed to the patients around the world, so that they can enjoy an unbiased information on the Phlebo-lymphology management state of the art. v-WINter2021 will include the 10thInternational Inter-university meeting, welcoming a significant amount of recent and valuable venous & lymphatic research, together with a nourished selection of free abstracts and a direct involvement of the youngest generations. The event will be held during EXPO Dubai, in concordance with the Arab Health event, in a joint effort to promote social and sport initiatives dedicated to public awareness of venous & lymphatic disorders. With this letter we would like to invite all of you to the astonishing metropolitan, Dubai, strategically located in the center of the world, and one of the easiest cities to fly in from all around the globe. We sincerely hope you will be a part of this scientific team that is looking forward to “connecting the Experts, to inform the Patients”, & dispel Fake News. v- “ vWINter meeting offers a great opportunity to unite for the big aims of phlebology. Apart from our daily routine work, we have to answer some crucial questions: - How much do we know about the pre-clinical stages of venous disease? - What kind of studies should be performed to learn more? - Does High-resolution ultrasound provide new information about C0-C1 stages? - Why does prevention work that well in dentistry, but not in Phlebology? - Do we really believe in prevention, or are we afraid to loose customers? - Can´t we learn together about the morphologic and hemodynamic criteria for an improved case selection? - Can´t we provide inputs how to improve endovenous treatments, or how to construct artificial vein valves? - DESIGN the FUTURE of PHLEBOLOGY ..& WIN a 1.000 $ flight stipend for one of the international meetings linked to vWIN foundation It is my personal background, being the founder of several dedicated ”new method” vein clinics, forcing me to always peer for less invasive, pain-free, comfortable and long-term satisfying methods. Our group invented hyaluronan valvuloplasty for reliable vein valve restoration, the “magic invisible film bandage” to optimize sclerofoam treatments, a novel kind of viscous sclerofoam for large varices, a couple of new laser and glue applications, and many more. All these, before coming to the market, have served hundreds to thousands of our patients for years. Nevertheless, looking at the world´s requirements, it´s just a drop in the bucket! At the vWINter meeting, we will provide an “innovation corner” to initiating a non-commercial collection of ideas, suggestions or presentations. A non-disclosure agreement will save everybody´s rights. There will be free counseling on how to deal with novelties in aspects of patents, studies and company negotiations. A summary of the idea collection will be published, as far as the participants agree. Every contribution will be considered for the “innovation prize travel stipend” of 1000 USD “ to attend one of the vWIN foundation related meeting Johann Chris Ragg, MD CEO SWISS VX vein research labs Chief physician angioclinic® Veincenters Berlin – Munich - Zurich

v- HUGO & STEVE national singing DINNER The world renowned experts Hugo Partsch & Steve Zimmet need no introduction in the vascular world. Following the example of pro.f Partsch, in 2017 v-WIN foundation international meeting in Albarella Island , we gave inflated balloons customized with the word “EGO”. Indeed, prof. Partsch was used to have all his meeting attendees leaving their “EGO” ball in a basket outside the meeting room, bringing in just their best science. TvWINter days dedicated another momentum to prof. Partsch teaching, not only in top quality science, but also in social sharing. During the International Compression Club meetings dinners, prof. Partsch is used to have all the international guests singing traditional songs from their countries of origin. This tradition was repeated at the v-WINter 2019 with delegates from 44 countries taking part in the singing contest. v-WINter introduces a special guest in the tradition: Steve Zimmet (and his) GUITAR. Generously, dr. Zimmet left as a present his guitar at the 2017 v-WIN meeting, as an instrument to promote nice time sharing. From that moment the guitar has been signed from all the ones who have shared nice time and good memories: on January 27 after dinner party, you and your connational friends and colleagues are invited to take part in this social initiative promoting national pride, nice time sharing and international camaraderie. v- SPECIAL “SHAKAR” Ancient latins used to say “verba volant, scripta manent” (spoken words fly away, written words remain). The concept is similar in scientific congresses: the real value of them is found in what remains after the many words spoken during the meeting. With this vision v-WINter 2019 was dedicated to the publication of a scientific work focused on similarities and controversies in Phlebo-lymphology Global Guidelines and dedicated to health professionals from all around the world (www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/31495256). Now v-WINter 2021 focuses on the venous-lymphatic patients appropriate information, looking forward for transforming the many scientific words spoken during the meeting in a written consensus booklet, available for free in different languages. Together with this task, v-WINter 2021 aim is to gather together world renowned experts for proper Phlebo-lymphology advancement and education, with a special attention to top quality research, new generations, countries in economic difficulties and to public venous & lymphatic awareness. As per forementioned Latin motto, we await the many top experts who will “fly” from all around the world to the v- WINter meeting, so that their words will “remain” in a document aimed to benefitting the patients. Since the very first v-WIN foundation event, we have said that “it’s not just where you go, but also whom you are traveling with”, thus, for this new scientific initiative, we deeply thank once again all the previous and new travel mates, waiting for them with open arms in the enchanting Dubai.
