INTRODUCTION Neighborhood Services is always looking for ways to enhance our training program. We strive to offer learning experiences that help our neighbors grow and understand more about how they can serve their neighborhoods and city. In order to bring all of the opportunities together we have created this handy Experience Our Montgomery (EOM) booklet. Our hope with this booklet is to provide broader opportunities that enable participation by more of your neighbors. With more participants, we hoped to make earning the required number of training credits for our grants a little easier. In this booklet you will find examples of meetings, hearings, events, and lecture series that you can attend to earn training credits. You will also find a list of places you can experience and then use the experience to earn Alternate Training Credits. Credits for these experiences will need to be requested through the Alternate Training Credit Request Form, which you will find attached in this booklet. Why is it important to document your attendance at a meeting or an activity? Earning 10 training credits is one of the eligibility requirements for an Annual Neighborhood Services grant. Full details regarding the eligibility requirements of the Neighborhood Grant are included in the application package of that grant. Be certain to refer to the Annual Neighborhood Grant Application for those requirements when seeking a grant. To obtain a copy give us a call at 625-2175 *Frequently, Neighborhood Services will add to our calendar other events, activities, meetings, or similar opportunities to earn training credits. Training credits earned for these will be announced at the time of the activity. You can obtain a current calendar by calling 625-2175. 2021 Experience Our Montgomery Page 3 Revised: 1/7/2021
GENERAL INFORMATION AND STANDARDS Participants earn training credits from January 1 until the first Friday of December. Effective 2020: If applying for the Annual Neighborhood Grant, required documentation for training credits earned is due on or before the first Friday of December. This year that date is December 3, 2021. Each association begins January 1 of each year with a balance of zero training credits for the upcoming year. Neighborhood Services Training Credits are earned per association not per person. For example, when more than one person from one neighborhood association attends the same program, meetings, event, etc., training credits earned are applied as though one person attended. Attendance is not the only requirement to earn Neighborhood Services training and alternate training credits. For Neighborhood Services Sponsored/Hosted programs, events, and training sessions you must include at least your name and neighborhood on the Neighborhood Services sign in sheets. For Alternate Training sessions, proper submission of the Alternate Training Credit Request Form and proper completion of the instructions on that form are a necessary part of earning training credit approval. When attending an Alternate Training Session, proof of attendance is needed along with the Neighborhood Services Alternate Training Credit Form. Full details of the requirements are found on the form. When you hear of an activity or event that you wish to attend and think it may be eligible for earning training credits for attending, go! You can always submit the Alternate Training Credit Request Form after attending, but it will be subject to approval. If you are interested, go! Learn! Enjoy yourself! Have fun! Stay tuned as there may be an occasion for you to acquire a significant number of training credits at one time. These are things to be watchful of during these occasions: It is very important to thoroughly read the things we send to you as the announcement may be nestled in something that will be sent either email or regular postal mail; You may need to have several neighbors to participate; We often announce these opportunities right before they happen, as we did not previously know about them. There may not be a lot of time to plan for them. SIMPLY STAY TUNED AND BE WATCHFUL OF THE CORRESPONDENCE WE SEND!!! 2021 Experience Our Montgomery Page 4 Revised: 1/7/2021
WHAT ARE TRAINING CREDITS? Earning Training Credits are similar to the credit hours one earns while attending college. For each course taken, a college student earns course credits. One requirement for eligibility for our current Neighborhood Grant is for the applicant to earn a minimum of ten (10) training credits during the calendar year. There are two (2) types of training credits you can earn; 1. 50%, or five (5), of your credits need to come from NEIGHBORHOOD SERVICES TRAININGS 2. 50%, or five (5), of your credits need to come from ALTERNATE TRAININGS *We will go into detail in this booklet what each of those means. -Earning NEIGHBORHOOD SERVICES training credits As we stated, 50% of the training credits are to be earned by attending and signing in at Neighborhood Services hosted Training Sessions. Below is the list of our most common types of trainings: Neighborhood Services Trainings/Gathering of Neighborhoods/Seminars 1 Training Credit, per hour attended Regions Financial Workshops, presented by Regions Bank and hosted by Neighborhood Services 1 Training Credit Neighborhood Services Saturday Seminars 2 Training Credits Annual Neighborhood Banquet hosted by Neighborhood Services 1 Training Credit NOTE: If you are tardy to a meeting or a training, you may not receive the full number of credits offered. This will be decided on a case-by-case basis by Neighborhood Services staff. -Earning ALTERNATE TRAINING Credits, outside of Neighborhood Services Events In this booklet opportunities are varied and plentiful for earning Alternate Training Credits. These opportunities are not hosted by Neighborhood Services, but are alternative ways to earn training credits. Over the next seventeen (17) pages you will find different ways to earn those credits. When taking advantage of earning Alternate Training Credits, it is important to be familiar with the Alternate Training Credit Request Forms. There are two (2) forms; one for in person meetings/events, and one for virtually attended meetings/events. These forms can be found on pages 20 & 21.
