About the School HISTORY The Founder, Laura Todd, has been offering continuing education to the esthetician, the medical community and related professions since the 1990s. In the spring of 2004, we were pleased to announce the addition of the Comprehensive Esthetics School Programs to our consulting and continuing education division. The Institute of Advanced Medical Esthetics was established on July 1, 2004 and Incorporated as LAT INC in 2005. SCHOOL OWNERSHIP AND INTEREST Powers, duties, and responsibilities: The governing board is the owner of the school. The Institute of Advanced Medical Esthetics is owned by LAT, Inc. Laura Todd maintains One hundred percent interest. Ms. Todd has extensive experience in the industry; she helped develop Virginia law and regulation for esthetics, is an author, and was appointed as Virginia’s first full term Esthetician Seat on the regulatory board for the state of Virginia. The school has an advisory board that assists with reviewing and responding to surveys, policies and procedures. This board reviews school outcomes and items such as curriculum and programs, facilities, equipment, budgets and suggests program approval plans as necessary. SCHOOL PURPOSE / EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES The purpose of this postsecondary school is primarily to prepare students to sit for the state board examination for Esthetics and Master Esthetics, to become licensed in their chosen profession. The school's proposed offerings are consistent with its stated purpose. MISSION Mission: It is our goal to prepare our students for the workforce and changes in industry by providing education and training for the fields Basic Esthetics, Master Esthetics or Esthetics Instructor and to prepare students to sit for the state board examination and to become licensed and working in their chosen profession. FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT The school has a modern clinic, audio and visual equipment, classroom areas, and a practical room with treatment tables making our campus an appropriate learning environment. Admissions ADMISSIONS Admission Requirements – 5/6/19 For enrollment, all applicants must provide the school with copies of their high school diploma, G.E.D. certificate or equivalent, or high school transcripts showing high school completion, or transcript from a postsecondary institution, college or university (demonstrating two years of successful completion toward a bachelor's degree), and an application to our Admissions Department. Students must be high school graduates or the equivalent; i.e., G.E.D. holders, or provide a state certification of home-school completion, and be at least 18 years of age. If a student is a high school graduate or its equivalent, or a home schooled student but is not 18 years old, they can still enroll. A student enrolling in the Esthetics Instructor course would also have to present a valid Esthetics license. A copy of their Driver’s license and Essay is also required. Applicant must have the required equipment and systems for online and live class. Applicants will also be required to successfully complete an interview. Applicants to the Master Esthetics Program must have a letter of recommendation from an Institute of Advanced Medical Esthetics Instructor or an override from the school director. All foreign diploma must be translated and evaluated for US equivalency. A foreign diploma in English must also be evaluated for US equivalency. For our files, we require copies of the official foreign diploma or transcripts, a translation of the documents and the evaluation, stating that this document is in fact equivalent to a United States High School Diploma. Students will be notified verbally at their admissions appointment if they have been accepted into the school. Students may be provisionally accepted if they do not have all paperwork completed. Students must submit all paperwork in within 7 days of request or they will lose provisional admission acceptance. ORIENTATION Students will go through a pre orientation prior to enrollment to ensure they understand all policies, procedures, and disclosures associated with the school and industry. Students will sign for the receipt and understanding of such information. DIPLOMA VERIFICATION All high school diplomas must be verifiable. Acceptable documentation for checking the validity of a student’s high school completion can include the following: the diploma and may require a final transcript that showing all courses taken or the judgment of the State Department of Education where the high school is located. A student’s self-certification is not sufficient to validate the high school diploma in question. If the institution has reason to believe that the high school diploma is not valid or was not obtained from an entity that provides secondary school education (for instance, if the diploma or transcript was bought or the student was required to perform little or no work), the institution will evaluate the validity of the student’s high school completion. There is no appeals process held by the Institution or the Department of Education if the high school diploma is deemed invalid. TRANSFER CREDITS The standards for awarding prior academic credit or course completion are as follows: The criteria for transfer credit will be given where applicable. Transfer hours will be evaluated by the student providing a valid transcript, and by taking an examination. Transfer credits will be accepted on a case- 7
by-case basis after evaluation by staff and are not guaranteed. If a student wants to transfer to another school, there is no guarantee the hours will transfer. As long as all financial obligations are met, an official transcript will be provided at the student’s request. The school does not recruit students attending or admitted to another school offering similar programs of study. RE-ENTRY Students who withdraw prior to completion of the program will return in the same satisfactory academic progress status as at the time of withdrawal, if the school approves re- entry. Program Schedule & Start Dates PROGRAM SCHEDULE Schedule Addendum The 600 hour Basic Esthetics or Master Esthetics program takes 24 weeks to complete if attending a minimum of 25 hours per week with perfect attendance. Basic Esthetics & Master Esthetics Program Class Schedule - SCHEDULE Sunday 9:00 – 4:30 (7.5 hours) 4:30-5:30 (mandatory makeup hours for individuals who do not have perfect attendance.) Monday 9:00 – 4:30 (7.5 hours) 4:30-5:30 (mandatory makeup hours for individuals who do not have perfect attendance.) Online: 6.5 hour Core + 3.5 hour Independent Module. The school has a minimum attendance rule of no more than 4 total absences per program and zero absences during first four weeks of class. START & END DATES Enrollment will occur approximately every 4 weeks, as capacity allows. Paperwork is due 30 days prior to start date. For the Esthetics Instructor course, this would only start if and when interest is expressed in the course. At that time, a start date would be established, but it would always be on a Sunday. Payment plans are not currently offered at this time. The school accepts cash, certified check or cashier’s check and financial aid to those who qualify. Tuition must be current. If a student’s tuition is in arrears, attendance is prohibited until tuition is made current. If tuition is not paid by the due date, students may be terminated for nonpayment of tuition. Financial Aid FINANCIAL AID DESCRIPTION The Institute offers Pell Grant, Direct Subsidized Loans, and Direct Un-subsidized Loans to enrolled students who qualify. Pell Grant is a need-based gift aid that does not require repayment. Direct Subsidized Loans are also calculated on a need-based basis, but require repayment. Direct Unsubsidized Loans are non-need based aid and are loans for which all students may qualify. The Department of Education provides the source of these funds. Live & Online Class Computer Requirements Live class computer requirements: Students will be required to have headphones and a lap top meeting the online system requirements listed below. TELECOMMUNICATIONS ACTIVITIES STATEMENT: Some of our programs use live and online combination hybrid formats to allow flexibility for the student. The portion of the programs that may be offered via distance education will be theory based. ONLINE CLASS REQUIREMENTS & ONLINE SYSTEM TRAINING Students are expected to have access to a computer, printer/scanner, computer with video camera and the internet. They will also need to be able to successfully complete the online class section of their program. Students need ability to access to ZOOM or similar platform as used by the school. Online classes will use the online course managment platform. Online classes will be offered as asynchronous and may have synchronous components and will support regular substantive interaction between the students and the instructor. Students will have access to the online instructor Matt England by phone (804)346-1979 or by email at online@theinstituteofadvancedmedicalesthetics.com throughout the week during normal business hours of Monday through Sunday 9am to 5:30 pm, unless the online platform is closed for the day. Students are provided training related to online classes during “intro to online class”. Demonstration of minimum computer skills through prior coursework or during orientation such as logging into our online system and navigating freely must be observed in order for the student to meet the criteria to participate in online classes. The training provided in orientation will provide a student sufficient skills to be able to participate in online classes freely. INSTITUTE OF ADVANCED MEDICAL ESTHETICS – STUDENT - INFORMATION EXCHANGE, PRIVACY AND SAFETY POLICY While INSTITUTE OF ADVANCED MEDICAL ESTHETICS takes all possible steps to offer a private and safe online platform, it cannot guarantee it is not vulnerable to hackers. Students within our online system are issued a secure username and password. While on the system, students are able to privately and safely exchange information within the INSTITUTE OF ADVANCED MEDICAL ESTHETICS course management system. INSTITUTE OF ADVANCED MEDICAL ESTHETICS asks student to takes the following privacy and security measures as listed below: • Do not disclose your user name and password to anyone. • Do not store your user name and password for automatic logins. 10
• Log out of the system do not just click the “x” to close the webpage as someone may be able to recover the page • Do not disclose the following information in the online system: Date of birth, social security number, full name, description, city/town, country, web page, ICQ number, Skype ID, Yahoo ID, AIM ID, MSN ID. • Do not post a blog or pictures of yourself. • Do not reply to anyone asking for your username or password as staff will not do so. • Alert the IT department immediately if you suspect your account or the online system has been compromised by calling 804-346-1979 or by emailing online@theinstituteofadvancedmedicalesthetics.com. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS Your computer system needs to meet the following minimum requirements: 1. Operating system: Windows XP or higher for PCs; OS X 10.5 or higher for Macs 2. Other browsers such as Internet Explorer or Safari may be used, but may not support all functionalities in Moodle, such as online quizzes and the HTML editor. • All browsers should have JavaScript, Cookies, and Pop-ups enabled (do not block Pop- ups). 5. All large file PDF submissions must be compressed prior to emailing using www.pdfcompressor.com or a similar software. Graduation & Employment Assistance GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS In order for students to receive graduate status and receive a diploma, they must have taken and passed all practical and theory exams for online topics, completed all contracted hours, and performed all of their service requirements by the program completion date. A grade point average of 75% or higher is required to graduate from the program. Tuition and fees must have been paid in full. All payments must be paid in full prior to the school releasing any transcripts or diplomas or verification of training for licensure or other documents. 85% on all parts of finals are required. For ability to examine paperwork to be released, (paperwork enables the student to sit for state board examination), a score of 85% or greater must be achieved on the school's written and practical mock state board exams as well as having met all other financial and graduation requirements. Signup for the exams must be done with the appropriate staff. The school requires that payments must be paid in full prior to the school releasing any school documents, official transcripts, certificates of completion, or verification of training paperwork to enable the student to sit for the state board examination. Transcripts will be released providing that all payments have been met. Transcripts will note graduation date or last date of attendance if the student has not graduated. STUDENT TRACKING AFTER GRADUATION The Student agrees to provide the school with information regarding the student’s employment immediately after graduation, at six months after graduation and one year after graduation via email to the registrar. Information should include: Name of business, address, number and contact at the place of employment. EMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE Job and career placement assistance is available to any graduate who has successfully graduated. The school cannot and does not promise or guarantee employment to anyone. The school maintains a list of potential employers and the names of resources with additional information on job listings. Licensing Information LICENSING REQUIREMENTS AND RECIPROCITY 12
To become licensed to practice esthetics in Virginia, students must complete state mandated training and pass the Virginia Esthetics licensure examination. Students are responsible for any fees associated with the state board examination and licensure. The entity responsible for state board examinations is PSI. Students must fill out the required DPOR forms & applications and pay the required fees. On the above listed website you will find the following: • Candidate Information Bulletin - that provides the supplies needed for your state board examination, site conduct at the testing center, policies and procedures and fees for the examination, theory and practical subject for which you are responsible. Students must assemble their kit in the required format with the required supplies and demonstrate practical skills as well as pass a theory examination. • Practical test scripts. • Exam location & Exam Dates. • DPOR forms & application. Virginia licenses Basic Esthetics and Master Esthetics, as well as Esthetics Instructor. There is no license as a laser technician 2 or medical esthetician 3 in Virginia as of 2015. To apply for reciprocity, you must directly contact the state you intend to move to directly. Program Information PROGRAMS OF STUDY The programs will follow the Virginia guidelines for licensure and offer a Basic Esthetics, Master Esthetics and Esthetics Instructor. Distance education modules of applicable programs will be offered via an online course management system by Moodle for the theory portions of the program. Basic Esthetics & Master Esthetics programs will be offered asynchronously and may include synchronous components. Courses are taught in English. Notice of Programs meeting Virginia requirements only: Our Programs are designed to meet the licensing requirements of Virginia. Other states may have different licensing requirements. The school has not determined our programs meet any other state’s requirements. If you reside in another state prior to enrollment or move during the program, or plan to or move after completion of the program, this statement serves to notify you of said information and to inform you know it is your responsibility to research this prior to enrollment.
