General Information
CLASS PLACEMENT: All class placement decisions are made by CAPA’s Director based on
age, ability and previous classroom performance. Placements are reviewed for accuracy,
and adjustments will be made after classes begin if necessary.

MAKE-UP CLASSES: Missed classes may be made up within 30 days of the initial absence.
All make-up classes must be scheduled in advance through the front desk in advance in
order to avoid class over-crowding.

PERFECT ATTENDANCE: Perfect attendance awards will be given at the final class of the
year. If a student becomes ill and is unable to attend, they can still be eligible for perfect
attendance if a) a doctor’s note is presented and b) the class is made up within 30 days.
Students will not be eligible for perfect attendance if they have absences for any other
reason.

DANCE CLASS ATTENDANCE AND TARDINESS: Students are expected to arrive at least ten
minutes prior to class time in order to be dressed and prepared for class. Students
arriving five minutes or more after their class has begun may not be permitted to
participate in the class due to risk of injury, but they may observe. Students must
regularly attend class in order to progress. Any student who misses more than five classes
after January 1, 2022 will be unable to participate in the year-end recital.

CLASS OBSERVATION: CAPA encourages parents to observe their child's progress in their
dance class(es). Parents can view through the windows or via the television monitors in
the lobby.
CARE OF STUDENTS: The school is not responsible for providing before or after class care
for students. Please drop off and pick up children in a timely manner. If an emergency
arises and you are unable to do so, please inform the front desk.

UNEXPECTED INTERRUPTION OF CLASSES: If classes must be cancelled due to extreme
weather or events beyond our control, any missed classes can be made up. No refunds
will be given.

LOST AND FOUND: CAPA is not responsible for any items left behind, lost or stolen on
CAPA property. All dancers are encouraged to keep dance bags in view at all times, and to
refrain from bringing valuables to the school. Items found will be placed in the lost and
found. The lost and found will be emptied at the end of each month.

CLASSROOM AND FACILITY ETIQUETTE: CAPA expects students and parents to treat each
other, the teachers and staff with respect. This includes treating fellow students and
their belongings with courtesy and kindness, maintaining a polite, attentive and
hardworking attitude with teachers, and avoiding gossip and/or negativity.

EVALUATION: Students are evaluated three times throughout the year--in September, for
correct level placement, in January, for proper progress, and in late April, for placement
in the following school year. If at any time, you wish to check on your child's progress,
please schedule an appointment with the school's director through the reception desk or
via email to info@camarilloacademy.com.

ANNUAL RECITAL PERFORMANCES: CAPA holds its annual recital each June. This
season’s recital will be June 23-26, 2022 at the Agoura Performing Arts Education Center.
All students are strongly encouraged to participate in order to showcase the skills they
have learned throughout the year. Pre-paid costume orders will be placed in January
2022.

COMMUNICATION: CAPA is dedicated to open communication with parents and students
alike. Parents and students should feel free to talk to teachers and staff members about
any questions or concerns; however, please schedule an appointment to do so rather than
speaking before or after class in order to keep classes running on time.

RESPECT FOR FACILITY/SAFETY REMINDERS: Respect must be shown to all CAPA
property. Food and drinks are allowed in the lobby and common areas; however, only
water is allowed in the dance rooms. Absolutely no gum chewing inside the classrooms.
Please be courteous and pick up trash after you have finished eating.

All hallways and doorways must remain unobstructed at all times in order to adhere to
the fire code. Students should store their belongings/ dance bags in lockers or bring with
them into the classroom. Absolutely no street shoes are allowed inside the dance studios
in order to protect our highly specialized dance floors.
Children who are visiting CAPA, both students and siblings or friends of students, must be
properly supervised while on CAPA property.

September 1, all unclaimed costumes will be donated.

Dress Code

OVERVIEW
One of the main goals at CAPA is to develop a sense of discipline and pride in our
students. For this reason, all students are expected to maintain a neat appearance and to
abide by the specified dress code for their level and/or class. Each dress code is designed
to suit the style of dance or discipline being learned. All Prep, Academy and Conservatory
ballet students must wear the appropriate color of leotard according to the CAPA dress
code for each of their ballet classes. This not only creates a disciplined learning
environment free from distractions but also provides students with a strong sense of
pride and accomplishment as they progress through each level of classical ballet.
Students have tangible evidence of their achievement.

PROPER CARE OF DANCE SHOES
Please note that all dance shoes, whether ballet slippers, jazz shoes or hip-hop sneakers,
should never be worn outside the building as dirt can become embedded in the soles and
damage the dance floors.

All ballet slippers should fit snugly with the drawstrings tied in a knot and the excess cut
off and tucked in. Elastics must be properly sewn in.

A ballet slipper that fits correctly is essential to the proper development of the foot.
Therefore, buying ballet slippers, or any dance shoes that are too big to allow for
growth, is not beneficial. If you are unsure about the fit, your child’s teacher will be glad
to guide you in the process.

HAIR
For all dance classes, hair must be pulled back off the face and securely fastened as
specified for each class. It is advisable to keep a supply of extra hair pins, bun
accessories and hair spray in student’s dance bag at all times.

suspension from class.

INJURY PREVENTION

There are several steps dancers can take to help prevent injuries:
    1. Arrive in time to warm up with light stretching exercises. If recovering from an
injury, the injured area should be specifically warmed up.
2. Pay attention to nutrition. Young dancers are especially in need of eating well
and staying hydrated. It is important to keep muscles and bones strong in order
to deal effectively with rigorous class and rehearsal schedules.
3. See your doctor if you believe you may be injured. Don’t take chances. If you
have a pain at one site which continues or increases as you are participating in
classes, please see your doctor and inform your teacher. Early detection is the
     key to preventing serious injury.
4. Ice and Massage. If you suspect an injury, the best home treatment is to
massage the affected area with ice. Eight minutes of ice massage followed by a
five minute break, then eight more minutes of ice massage, 3-4 times per day
is usually adequate. Always use a thin cloth or towel between the ice and your
skin, or be sure to keep the ice moving.
5. Students unable to participate in class due to sickness or injury must provide
their teacher with a written note from their parents and/or doctor in order to
be given permission to sit out of class. Students should come prepared with a
notebook to take proper notes. Use of cell phones is strictly prohibited during
     class observation.
