2020 Walt Disney World Planning Guide Congrats! Your Disney trip is book. The planning for you 2020 vacation between now and end of December 2020 is going to be a little different than in the past. Good news! It actually doesn’t require as much advanced planning because for a limited time you can travel to Disney like a VIP Pro - think low crowds and ride every attraction in each park. Below is a planning sheet to help you get the most our of your Disney vacation and a checklist to make sure you come prepared and plan for the things you need to in advance. So get with your travel party and create your game plan. We are sure this will help you enjoy a fun, stress free Disney World vacation. TRAVEL DATES: KEY THINGS TO DO BEFORE ARRIVAL PARK RESERVATIONS (as soon as you are booked) Pro Tip: Try to avoid scheduling Magic Kingdom on the weekends and Monday and Hollywood Studios on Saturday or Sunday. Keep in mind, most people will visit the parks in the order they were built during the week, so if you plan an oppossite day, parks will most likely be even smaller crowds. DINING RESERVATIONS (60 days in advance) Pro Tip: Because you will find you have little more extra time, plan on a sit down meal at least once a day to enjoy some of the great food. If you want to leave the parks after they officially close, try grabbing a dinner reservation within 30 minutes of the park closing time. If you want to dine at a resort for dinner or in the evening at Disney Springs, definitly get a reservation. They will get busy starting around 5:30pm. TRANSPORTATION TIPS: If you are staying at a Disney Resort and plan to utilize the complimentary transportation, be sure to find out when the buses or Skyliner will start in the morning and end in the evening. Also, if you are at a Skyliner resort, confirm if buses to Hollywood Studios and Epcot are even an option. If weather looks it may be lightning or windy, keep an eye on that because the monorail and Skyliner will stop running temporarily until weather passes. If you plan to take the bus to MK first thing in the morning, arrive 15-20 min before scheduled first pick up. The buses currently only hold 6 parties of 4 people at a time. Uber is a good back up but note the drop off is Ticket & Transportation (TTC) center so just waiting a little longer for a bus may be better. The Monorail is currently not operating between TTC and Epcot. If you plan to drive to the parks, be aware they do not let you past the parking gate until 30-60 minutes before park open depending on the park. We’ve found MK, Epcot and Hollywood Studios are all one hour and AK is 30 min. If you arrive too early you may be turned around. PARK STRATEGY TIPS ©2020 Disney Travel Secrets
With the crowds low and ability to fit as much in as you want, you may want to plan to enjoy the parks right when they open and then take a mid day break and return to close the park. Or park open to close, but you will quickly find you can get everything in almost like you were part of a VIP group. MAGIC KINGDOM The best way to approach this park is to list your favorite rides or must dos. Then plan to do those first so you have the opportunity to do them again in the day. Where you go first will depend on your must dos, but use the hub as your starting point and then work either clockwise or counter clockwise. Enjoy Main Street on the way in and way out. EPCOT The strategy for this park will vary depending on if you are arriving via Skyliner in the World Showcase back entrance or via bus / parking at the front of the park. We recommend you split this park into part day doing attractions and part day exploring World Showcase and shopping. If visitng World Showcase first from back entrance head to France and work your way aroud until Mexico after then you can hit all the front of park attractions and then on your way out finish off with Canada and UK. If entering from front of park, enjoy the attractions and then pick either Mexico or Canada and make your way around World Showcase. And then end your day enjoying a few more attractions. HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS This is the one park you definitely need to be strategic. Currently the only ride you can’t just walk on is Rise of the Resistance (ROR) in Galaxy’s Edge. You have to get a boarding group. The groups are distributed at 10am and 2pm and you must be in the park. Also, the other super popular attraction, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway (M2R2), will be busy. So plan on arriving at least 45 min prior to park open and then head straight to M2R2 and get in line. Then keep a close eye on the clock so you don’t miss the 10am drop time for ROR. Once you’ve done M2R2 and have your boarding group for Rise, you are golden to enjoy all the other attractions in Hollywood Studios. ANIMAL KINGDOM This park has reported the lowest wait times. Most people will go to Flight of Passage (FoP) first. Instead, head straight back to the Safari. The animals are the most active in the morning. From there, take the time to enjoy things like the Gorilla Trail and the numerous animal encounters spread throughout the park. Most people will skip these when they are trying to get on all the rides. NOTE: The second and third week of October are Fall Break for many schools across the country. These weeks will most likely be a little busier. And the two weeks around Christmas and New Years are typically busy as well. So having a plan of action get you one step ahead of people just showing up. Remember, think opposite. If everyone is going to Tomorrowland... head to ©2020 Disney Travel Secrets
Frontierland. You can always monitor wait times prior to your trip on the My Disney Experience app the week before just to see if you should change your game plan. EXTRA ACTIVITIES There is a lot to do at Disney outside the parks. And with reduced hours and the ability to enjoy everything the parks have to offer in a shorter amount of time, you may find yourself with extra time to enjoy some other magic at Disney World. Make plans for some extra activities on non park days and in the evenings. Currently, you can enjoy the following activities. • Pool at your resort (and not, they don’t allow pool hopping) • Activites at your resort like Movies Under the Stars or crafts, pool trivia, etc. • Golf and FootGolf – available on a regular schedule at Walt Disney World golf courses • Fantasia Gardens and Fairways Miniature Golf • Ft. Wilderness Archery Experience • Horseback riding (age 9+) at Ft. Wilderness • Wilderness Back Trail Adventure (age 16+) at Ft Wilderness • Fishing excursions • Bowling at Splitsville (Disney Springs) NOTE: Reservations may be required. Fishing call 407-WDW-BASS and with exception of bowling, call 407-WDW-PLAY for all others.
