Beethoven 250 Beethoven: The Piano Concertos Five extraordinary concertos in one week Fifteen years of creation distilled over three extraordinary concerts - enjoy a portrait of Beethoven as the creative maverick, poet and genius. Beethoven’s ground-breaking piano concertos established him as one of the greatest of all composers. This is an unmissable opportunity to indulge in the complete cycle during a single week. Performing this cycle is the ultimate adventure for a virtuoso soloist, and dazzling Uzbek pianist Behzod Abduraimov is one of the finest of his generation. “He has fingers that seem as though they were made to create rainbows.” The Los Angeles Times. A favourite of audiences and critics, his triumphant return to Perth will be his first Beethoven piano concerto cycle; an extraordinary milestone to experience live. We’ll journey from the wistful youth and romance of the first concerto through to the barnstorming grandeur of the fifth with some surprising delights along the way. Beethoven 250 West Australian Symphony Orchestra and Perth Festival in association with West Australian Opera present Beethoven’s Fidelio Beethoven’s only opera blazes with heroism Chained in a secret dungeon, an innocent man awaits certain death. But in Beethoven’s ode to love, risk and triumph, there is one prison guard who holds the key to his fate. Fidelio is the uplifting tale of Leonore, a heroic woman who creates a daring plan to free her husband from wrongful imprisonment, and the tyranny that put him there. Under the direction of Asher Fisch, Beethoven’s score blazes with soul-stirring emotion in this concert production of a work rarely performed in Perth. German soprano Christiane Libor delivers a mighty, no-holds-barred performance as Leonore, leading one of the finest casts ever assembled in Australia. Celebrating the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s birth, Fidelio is presented as a hallmark work of the 2020 Perth Festival. Featuring the full force of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, the West Australian Opera Chorus and WASO Chorus with narrator Eryn Jean Norvill, this once in a generation retelling of one of the most inspiring stories ever set to music is completely unmissable. West Australian Symphony Orchestra Our Story Our Story We harness the energy of an entire community to create events and programs across Western Australia to stimulate learning and participation Community Engagement in a vibrant cultural life Sharing Music for All The bright lights continue to shine on the mainstage, but we are also building beacons of creativity across our great state. We believe that all West Australians should have the opportunity to experience and participate in quality live music throughout their life. WASO’s Community Engagement program is the largest and broadest reaching of all Australian orchestras. In community centres, hospitals, concert halls and classrooms we provide children with valuable tools to expand opportunities for creativity, self-expression, teamwork, academic success and self-esteem. We create the spark that inspires a life-long love of music, ensuring access for individuals who live with social, financial or geographical disadvantage. We deliver a diverse range of participatory workshop and performance programs for babies, Rusty Musicians, the elderly and everyone in between, with a lot of it delivered for free. We’ve got a big state to cover and even bigger dreams.
