Community Message What's�In�Your�Waste? Give Trees a Chance (All�We�Are�Saying...) ...�is�that�a�functioning�ecosystem�is�dependent�on�both�living�and�non- living�components.�Removing�parts�of�it�results�in�imbalance.�Even�seemingly insignificant�features,�such�as�a�dead�tree�(or�"snag"),�plays�an�important�role in�a�functioning�ecosystem.�Dead�trees�attract�birds�by�harbouring�insects�and offering�safe�nesting�cavities. Rather�than�completely�removing�damaged�or�dead�trees,�consider�leaving�the trunk�standing�to�a�height�that�provides�backyard�habitat�without�posing�a hazard�to�your�house�or�health.�A�height�of�at�least�15�feet�is�recommended�for good�habitat�value.�If�you�don't�like�the�look�of�a�snag�in�your�yard,�consider disguising�it�with�a�native�climber,�such�as�trumpet�honeysuckle.� On�That�Note... Multi-family Recycling Live�In�A�Condo�Or�Townhouse? Multi-family�complexes�are�usually�serviced�via�large�carts�for: • mixed�recyclables�(blue�bin), • compost/food�waste�(green�bin),�and • container�glass �(black�bin), and�make�their�own�arrangements�for�the�collection�of�garbage. The�District�charges�approximately�$76�per�unit,�per�year,�for�compost�and�recyclables�collection from�multi-family�complexes.�If�your�complex�does�not�feature�communal�recycling�and�composting carts,�check�with�your�strata�to�see�what�the�reason�may�be. Blue�bin:�include�clean,�dry�mixed�recyclables, such�as�paper,�cardboard,�plastic�and�metal packaging�containers�-�no�plastic�bags. Black�bin:�include�clean�retail�container�glass packaging,�such�as�jam�and�pickle�jars,�and marinade�and�ketchup�bottles�-�no�drinking glasses,�mirrors�etc. Green�bin:�include�compostable�food�waste, including�meat,�bones,�leftovers,�paper�napkins and�wooden�utensils.
