Health and Safety Facilities o Cleaning Protocols ○ Adequate cleaning schedules have been created and implemented for all school gymnasiums. ○ Bathrooms, gymnasiums, stands, etc. will be cleaned and sanitized in between games. ○ Prior to an individual or groups of individuals entering a facility, hard surfaces within that facility must be disinfected. ○ Hand sanitizer (containing >60% ethanol or >70% isopropanol) must be plentiful and available to individuals and players as they move from place to place. ○ Appropriate clothing/shoes must be worn at all times to minimize the transmitting of sweat onto equipment/surfaces. ○ Once facilities are cleaned, individuals must wash their hands for a minimum of 20 seconds with water and soap. In the absence of a handwashing station, hand sanitizer may be used before touching any surfaces or participating in games. o Spectators o Spectators are not allowed to attend practices. Players, Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Staff are the only personnel allowed inside gymnasiums during practices. o The number of spectators allowed inside the facility will be no more than 30% of the posted occupancy limits. o Each spectator will be required to sign attendance sheet (Name and Phone Number) in order to be allowed entrance into gymnasium. o Signage and safe distancing markers should be posted. o Spectators Should Follow the 3 W’s and they should o Wear a cloth face covering. o Wait 6-feet apart & avoid close contact. o Wash hands often and use hand sanitizer. 2|Page
o Ingress & Egress ○ Staff will continue to develop strategies to prevent groups from gathering at entrances/exits of facilities in order to limit crossover and contact. o Strategies: o Stagger starting/ending times for practices and games. o Establish “buffer” time between contests (30 minutes). o Ingress and Egress will be determined at each individual gym location. Competition & Practice Requirements o COVID-19 Screening Protocols ○ All coaches and students must be screened on game days for COVID-19 prior to participating, which includes temperature checks conducted by Staff. ○ Assistant coaches and players will not be allowed inside the facility until game time. Teams will be allowed 5 minutes of warmup once temperature checks have been approved. Coaches will only be allowed to enter gym during previous game in order to turn in game rosters. Rosters must be submitted at least 15 minutes before scheduled game times. ○ Anyone with a temperature of 100.4° F or higher, or who reports any COVID-like symptoms, will not be allowed to participate. Such players must be sent home and should be directed to their primary care practitioner (Family Medicine, Pediatrics, or Internal Medicine) for evaluation and the potential need for further testing. ○ Positive responses to screening questions for each person should be recorded and filed, according to Health Department Policies. ○ The score keeper(s) is responsible for the collection of the data from each day’s screening. ○ If a player(s) has immediate family members (living in the same household) that are placed in quarantine the parents/guardians must contact the League President and discuss options for returning to play. Players will not be allowed to practice and or play until approved by the League President. 3|Page
o COVID-19 Exposure Protocols ○ If a person on the team or staff tests positive for COVID-19, any members of that team who: 1) have been in close contact with that individual (within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes), or 2) those who had direct person-to-person contact, or 3) was coughed or sneezed on by the positive individual should A. quarantine (stay at home) until 14 days since last exposure to individuals who tested positive. B. Check his/her temperature during quarantine and watch for developing symptoms of COVID-19. C. Stay away from people who are at higher risk for getting very sick or contracting COVID-19. o Consult with the local Health Department for further guidance. o COVID-19 Positive Test Protocols ○ The local public health authority must be notified by the league president(s) (or designee) to help with contact tracing o TO RESUME PRACTICE OR GAMES, an athlete, coach, or staff member who tests positive must satisfy ALL the following criteria: 1. At least 10 days have passed since receiving a positive test or diagnosis by a licensed healthcare provider. 2. No fever (temperature of 100.4° F / 38° Celsius or higher) or use of fever-reducing medications for 24 hours since the recovery. 3. Other symptoms are improving. Note: Loss of taste or smell may persist and need not delay the end of isolation. 4. A Return to Play form from a Licensed Health Care Provider. 5. A Return to Duty form from a Licensed Health Care Provider. o In-Season Practices and Games ○ Coaches and staff should give strong consideration to wearing cloth face coverings at all times. ○ Cloth face coverings should not be worn during activities that inhibit breathing. o 6-feet of physical distancing should be maintained. ○ Cloth face coverings must not be shared. Plastic face shields covering the entire face are not allowed during participation. 4|Page
○ During practice, artificial noisemakers such as an air horn or a timer system with an alarm can be used as a signal in place of a traditional whistle o Staff and coaches must emphasize the need for all coaches and participants who have signs or symptoms of illness to stay home to decrease the risk of viral transmission, as they may transmit the virus to vulnerable individuals. Vulnerable individuals are defined as, but not limited to people age 65 years and older and others with serious underlying health conditions, including high blood pressure, chronic lung disease, chronic kidney disease, sickle cell disease, serious heart disease (e.g. heart failure, coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy), diabetes, obesity, asthma, and those whose immune system may be compromised by treatment such as by chemotherapy for cancer, certain medication for rheumatoid arthritis and other conditions requiring immune suppression. o The Macon County Health Director, Macon County Emergency Management Director and Macon County Manager are very important to the continuation and resumption of athletics and should be included in the planning and implementation of safety protocols. o Due to the possibility of reoccurring outbreaks in the coming months, administrators must be prepared for the possibility of some teams having to isolate for two or more weeks while in-season. o Scrimmage Games o There will be no scrimmage games prior to or during the basketball season. o Post-Event Award Ceremonies ○ Award ceremonies may occur provided they are conducted in such a fashion to adhere to all appropriate social distancing guidelines. 5|Page
