About the YouthLead Project YouthPower: A USAID funding mechanism for youth- focused implementation projects, evaluations and research YouthPower Learning: A USAID-funded project that generates knowledge and promotes learning about positive youth development. YouthLead Ambassadors Roles & Responsibilities YouthLead Ambassadors: • Play a key role in bringing the benefits of YouthLead to national, regional, and local groups of changemakers; • Help grow YouthLead and engage interested YouthLead Volunteers; • Provide input and ideas to make YouthLead more relevant and vibrant to changemakers around the globe. Main roles and responsibilities are to: • Reach out to young changemakers in your network in-person, by email, or via social media to increase awareness about YouthLead; • Recruit new young changemakers to join YouthLead; • Add content (blogs, projects, articles, funding opportunities, events); • Facilitate peer-to-peer networking by hosting local events; and • Attend mandatory YouthLead on-one-one and cohort calls.
Who do YouthLead Ambassadors Represent? • You are an Ambassador for YouthLead, an activity under YouthPower Learning, which is a project funded by the US Agency for International Development and implemented by Making Cents International and its partners. • You are not employed by USAID or Making Cents International. • You are a YouthLead volunteer receiving a one-time $300 stipend at the successful completion of your activities.
Activity Reporting • Submit a monthly report starting April 2019 thru Sept. 2019. • Record your detailed activities on your individual Google Sheet (will be provided). • If you have questions on how to fill or how to write the report send an email to the YouthLead team. • Any question? Contributing Content on YouthLead.org Projects, Resources & Events Projects: If you have initiated, are leading, or implementing any project, or are part of a changemaking organization, add the activity or project under “Projects.” Resources: Upload reports, articles, blogs, etc. (either written by you or others) that you think other changemakers will find useful. If the resource has not been written by you, always include “attribution” and links. Events: Add local or global youth-related events. Include the correct date and potential deadlines.
Contributing Content on YouthLead.org Funding & Discussion Groups Funding: Post funding opportunities relevant to young changemakers Discussion groups: As a YouthLead Ambassador, you will be engaging members in the “All YouthLead Members and Alumni” discussion group. You can post new discussion threads or reply to members when they add comments.
Content Posting Tips Before you post any content, please check on the platform if it has already been added by someone else to avoid double posting. You will earn points for all content postings, and badges after you have reached a certain level of points. How to Earn YouthLead Badges? One point will be awarded for any contribution (e.g., event, resources). Knowledge Badge: based on resources: you earn a badge with your 7th resource Networker Badge: based on events: you earn a badge with your 5th event Innovations Badge: based on projects posted: you earn a badge with your 3rd project Community Badge: based on discussions: you earn a badge with your 50th discussion group posting Changemaker Badge: based on projects connected to you: you will earn a badge with the second project that is “connected” to you). 6 Tips for Youthlead.org and Social Media 1. Make your work visible to us: Whenever you organize community events, collect the email addresses of participants and invite them from your personal profile on YouthLead. 2. Make them feel welcome: When people you invited join YouthLead, follow them on their YouthLead profile, invite them to participate in the ‘All YouthLead Members and Alumni’ discussion group, thank them personally for joining through the ‘contact’ function, and encourage them to add events/ post resources/ add projects. 4/5/2019 28
6 Tips for Youthlead.org and Social Media (Ctd.) 3. Ask for consent: Always make sure you have the appropriate consent from participants before taking any pictures. Please refer to the YouthLead.Org terms and condition if you want to know more about it. Add photo credit in the caption and alternative text when you upload them on YouthLead. 4. Make YouthLead Social Media Engaging: When the YouthLead team posts social media content on FB and Twitter: • Add comments • Share it on your social media • Add your personal message when you share them • Make it public post • Use YouthLead Hashtags with your personalized Hashtag. Let us highlight your work: If you organize community events or any other activities or do a presentation about YouthLead at an event/conferences etc., let us know about it: • Send us pictures; • Send us details of the events, brief texts; • Send us the date and time of the event; • Tell us what was the occasion. 6. Write about your experiences as a blog on YouthLead, share the interesting stories with us and connect with local events, networks to maximize the impact of your work. Do not forget to share them on social media; • Translate it in to your own language to increase relevancy; • Make it relevant to your local context and people; • Use pictures whenever you are making social media posts. Next Steps Review and carefully read the Content Posting Handbook for YouthLead Ambassadors posted in the Discussion Group here. Start recruiting five new young changemakers. Make your own profile more interesting - add projects, pictures. Post at least one piece of content on YouthLead.org to get you started.
