M E SS AG E FROM THE CHAIRPERSON As Australia’s most culturally diverse state, Victoria has a rich multicultural story which speaks to the vibrancy of its diverse communities. Multiculturalism enriches the state’s social fabric for Victorians from all walks of life and that’s something to celebrate. Each year, the Victorian Multicultural Commission is tasked with one of the best jobs in the state: promoting our state’s multicultural success story 2 0 1 9 Sponsorship Oppor tunities and showcasing the best and most inspiring examples of cultural diversity to all Victorians. Every year in March, Victorians of all cultural backgrounds, faiths, ages and walks of life come together at events held all over the state for Cultural Diversity Week. Cultural Diversity Week is Victoria’s biggest and brightest celebration of multiculturalism, showcasing the vibrant sights, sounds and tastes of our rich and evolving multicultural Premier’s Gala Dinner community. It’s a chance to learn, share, connect 16 MARCH 2019 — PAGE 9 and enjoy – to honour our differences while simultaneously uniting in our shared humanity. When Cultural Diversit y Week 2 0 1 9 In its 17th year, Cultural Diversity Week will run from 16 to 24 March 2019. The week coincides with the United Nations’ International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, which is held annually on 21 March. What Cultural Diversity Week kicks off with the Victoria’s Multicultural Festival 23 MARCH 2019 — PAGE 10 Premier’s Gala Dinner, culminates with Victoria’s Multicultural Festival and Culture Waves concert, and is complemented by the VMC Film Festival in May. In addition to these flagship events, there are hundreds of festivals, exhibitions, talks and performances hosted by community organisations, business, sporting clubs and local councils all around the state. Who Cultural Diversity Week is presented by the Culture Waves Victorian Multicultural Commission with 23 MARCH 2019 — PAGE 11 support from the Victorian Government. But it’s the Victorian community who really bring the week to life, and who have succeeded in making it the state’s biggest and brightest multicultural celebration. With 45,000 attendees at Victoria’s Multicultural Festival and Culture Waves concert and 1,400 guests at the Premier’s Gala Dinner – not to mention more than 200 performers across the three events – Cultural Diversity Week is a fantastic opportunity to deepen your engagement with multicultural and mainstream audiences.
