FOREWORD T he Women’s Forum for the Economy & Society is a leading platform dedicated to highlighting women’s voices and added- values on global issues. We believe in women leaders’ distinctive capacity to create positive impact on their employees, communities and societies. Headquartered in Paris with global influence, the Women’s Forum for the Economy & Society manifests a commitment to women’s leadership and progress throughout the year with a range of Initiatives in partnership with businesses, cultural and media leaders and non- governmental organisations. Our yearly Global Meeting in Paris has become an unmissable and incomparable date on the international conference calendar – a place to be and to be heard. With our powerful network that unleashes women’s leadership, our ambition to promote our values through dialogue and concrete solutions, we are transitioning from a convening focus to engaging for impact. We empower leaders – both women and men – to make a difference. We strive to build bridges between generations, countries and cultures. We encourage tolerance and solidarity for and among women in every sector, wherever they are, through daring dialogue at our Meetings around the world. Working with the support of our partners and delegates, the Women’s Forum has convened decision-makers, pioneers and trailblazers to accelerate the impact of women’s leadership and empower women across society. When we make progress for women, we make life better for everyone. This year’s aspiration to take the lead for inclusion as a means of creating a more cohesive and vibrant society is a natural continuation of our past work and our powerful vision for the future. VISION Taking the lead for inclusion U nder the vision of taking the lead for inclusion, the Women’s Forum in 2019 will focus on informing, influencing and empowering women and men to step up, to take action to change the status quo, to break the barriers for women. In many countries and societies, efforts have been made, best practices shared, public policies implemented to narrow the gender gap but much has to be done to accelerate the progress on gender equality. As we face the opportunities and challenges brought by digital transformation, political upheavals, climate change among many other trends of 2019, it’s critical to integrate diversity and inclusiveness as indispensable standards for sustainable and progressive development. Aimee Mullins 2019 will be the year of challenge and year of results. We will deliver what we promise: concrete actions and solution to promote women in the economy and society. It is now time to take the lead all year round in all our events, to influence global agenda including the G7 and G20. This year, our ambitious agenda is to leverage individual and collective leadership to construct impactful conversations and drive solutions generated at our Meetings towards concrete results. With this overarching theme, the Global and Regional Meetings of the Women’s Forum for the Economy & Society are animated by programmes and initiatives taking on the most pressing global issues and challenges facing humanity. The related themes of each meeting help to organise our collective thinking and unlock a body of insights and content that create influence and impact throughout the year. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala With each programme, our goal is to focus on driving the discussion Jean-Bernard Lévy towards action and ask participants – what do we do next? We are committed to bringing diverse perspectives to these discussions. They include leaders from different backgrounds and experiences, multiple geographical regions, both the public and private sector, including cultural organisations and NGOs. We also succeed in creating a mix of established and up-and-coming contributors to our plenary sessions and discussions, moving beyond the usual suspects. With their finger on the pulse of established and emergent issues, our speakers put our programme at the leading edge of a global exchange of ideas. We hope that you will join us to take the lead and bring women leadership on all essential issues. Phumzile Miambo-Ngcuka

GLOBAL PRESENCE Organising trailblazing Meetings around the world I llustrating the Women’s Forum’s increasingly vital role worldwide as a powerful platform for women’s voices, the flagship Women’s Forum Global Meeting in Paris, builds on the success of Women’s Forum Meetings with a regional focus. Under the vision of Bridging Humanity, in 2018 the Women’s Forum Canada was a unique opportunity to generate concrete ideas to inform and influence the agenda of the G7 Summit, bringing a crucial gendered perspective on topics like inclusive growth, economic empowerment, climate action and shaping lives through technology. In September, the inaugural Women’s Forum Singapore was the pioneering event to foster women’s leadership for social progress and economic impact in Singapore and in the region, bringing continuity and add global perspective to the Women’s Forum Global Meeting in Paris in November. 2019 will be a year full of actions for the Women’s Forum as we take the lead on how inclusion foster sustainable and equitable development for women and men in an increasingly disrupted world. In collaboration with the Grand Duchess Foundation, Women’s Forum will be in Luxembourg to empower victims of sexual violence in fragile environments with the international conference Stand Speak Rise Up. Women’s Forum Americas and Women’s Forum Asia in May and in September respectively will lead the discussions and practices on feminine leadership, inclusivity and diversity from Americas to Asia. The Women’s Forum Global Meeting in November will be the culmination of year-long discussion and actions, together with the Women’s Forum community and partners, to tackle global issues through gendered perspectives and inclusive solutions.

WOMEN’S FORUM STRATEGIC COMMITTEE I n 2018, with the Women’s Forum, the Global Strategic Members: American Express, AXA, BNP Paribas, Google, L’Oréal, Microsoft, P&G, Publicis Groupe, Sanofi co-construct the objectives and goals for the year, providing leadership, direction and expertise to inform the overall positioning of the organisation as well as its priorities. As a committed group of global leaders representing a diverse group of sectors and industries, the Global Strategic Members help to ensure that the Women’s Forum aligns its work to the most significant global challenges. The engagement of Strategic Committee in the Women’s Forum Meetings around the world, in the five Daring Circles has generated long-term positive impact throughout the year on global issues most affecting women and where the leadership of women is paramount.
Promoting Women’s Forum key goals over the long-term through Initiatives
DARING CIRCLES B uilding on the theme of the Global Meeting in October 2017 – “Daring to lead in a disrupted world”, the Daring Circles invites leaders to question assumptions, and to re-engage for the impact they want to create. The ambition of the Daring Circles is to translate the rich agenda of these Meetings into permanent conversations delivering tangible positive societal and economic outcomes. The Daring Circles will invite select business leaders, experts and influencers to do exactly that: engage for long-term positive impact on issues where the leadership of women is paramount, supporting it and empowering women to take action across society. Together, the Daring Circles will inform and shape the debate on those issues and promote collaborative ways of working among our institutions in the face of continuing global disruption. How will the Daring Circles work? • Each programme will feature a combination of strategic members, a knowledge partner(s) to source content and insights and an institutional partner(s) with relevant policy influence and expertise (eg; OECD, UNWomen, ICRC, C40). • Daring Circles are designed to generate evidence-based insights that will motivate and arouse action among both Daring Circle members and beyond. WOMEN & ACCESS TO HEALTH The Women & Access to Health Daring Circle is led by AXA and Sanofi in collaboration with BNP Paribas and Google, and in association with RB and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. This circle of partners aims to improve and promote women’s access to health, in both developed and developing countries, by supporting emerging technologies that are addressing these gaps. There are many barriers obstructing women’s access to health. Shortcomings in data or research to inform healthcare providers about women’s particular healthcare needs can result in misdiagnosis or improper treatment – including for mental health. Limited awareness, education and lack of information can limit women’s ability to care for themselves. Excessive distances and cost, in both time and money, are all interrelated factors that create difficulties for women in acquiring the care that they need. We are committed to addressing these issues, and in particular promoting women’s leadership in developing solutions. To put this commitment into action, we are collectively sponsoring a call for initiatives. Our goal is to support entrepreneurs and innovators who are creating solutions that improve women’s access to health and promote the role of women in enabling and providing access to health. WOMEN & AI The technologies behind artificial intelligence have the potential to power safer self-driving cars, diagnose diseases, assess risk in lending, make better hiring decisions and otherwise transform every aspect of society. Yet, as innovations involving machine learning systems accelerate the pace of development and application, the risk of learning from human biases becomes increasingly acute. If we fail to build systems that are inclusive by design, there is no knowing the true extent to which these systems will amplify bias in our communities, workplaces and societies. This Daring Circle will trace how gender bias creeps into machine learning systems in order to recommend practices to root out bias in systems driven by algorithms, and also create opportunities for AI to identify manifestations of bias in human behaviours.
DARING CIRCLES WOMEN & CLIMATE CHANGE Plotting a future to unleash solutions: Changing the story of women in the face of climate change Women are very likely to be disproportionately affected by the effects of climate change. The extent and nature of this burden and, more crucially, the ability of the world to head-off such an unequal outcome will depend in large part upon what action we take - be it political, technological or economic – to mitigate and adapt to climate change. To understand the unique effect that these efforts will have on women, and to harness women’s leadership in limiting climate change itself, it is critical that we apply a gendered perspective to the future scenarios that different drivers might lead us to. Using a scenario approach, this Daring Circle will project the impacts of climate change on women in different contexts (urban, rural, geographies, etc.) to profile and inform sector-specific and cross- sectoral solutions that acknowledge gendered components of climate mitigation and adaptation. WOMEN & STEM From enabling the agenda for the SDGs to shaping the jobs of the future, STEM is reshaping the world we live in. How can we make the tactical moves needed to ensure that women are in the foreground of this conversation? The Daring Circle in STEM aims to take action to increase the participation of women in STEM at the grassroots and beyond – whether it is changing the narrative around the subject to be more recognisable, reskilling of the existing workforce or democratising access to education and digital skills training. Through shared perspectives - organisation, institutions and businesses will collaborate for quantitative action. WOMEN & SUPPLIER DIVERSITY As companies across the globe are becoming more aware of the need for diversity in their supply chains, they are putting in place programmes to increase that diversity. On average, supplier diversity programmes add US$3.5 million to the bottom line for every US$1 million in procurement operation costs. But diverse supply chains are more prominent in the United States with Europe and other regions lagging behind. There is an opportunity to build the muscle of European businesses and their supply chains going forward. This Daring Circle seeks to examine the current state of supplier diversity, profile best-practices and encourage large corporates to take action to incorporate more women-led an owned businesses in their supply chains. Ultimately we are looking to define the framework for, and establish a European database and scorecard to track the progress of partner organisations in the number of women suppliers and spend on supplier diversity initiatives. WOMEN’S FORUM INITIATIVES Tracking and driving measurable progress for women’s advancement L aunched in 2010, CEO Champions is an initiative designed to drive progress and accountability for women’s advancement in the private and public sectors. The peer-to- peer network presents an opportunity for CEOs to underscore their organisation’s commitment to women’s advancement as well as taking a strong leadership role in the broader global economy and society. CEO Champions members are active, highly committed participants who track and drive measurable progress for women’s advancement through on-record mutual commitments and accountability. In 2018, more than 150 CEOs gathered at our CEO Champions workshops, organized in partnership with McKinsey & Company, in Canada, Singapore and France to have candid conversations about how to create the conditions for revolutionary change in their companies and industries as well as changes that they would commit to within their organisations to forge the path ahead for gender equality. Now in its ninth year, the CEO Champions Initiative is a pioneer as a high-level international platform that advocates for the inclusion of both men and women at the leadership level in the private as well as the public sector.

WOMEN’S FORUM INITIATIVES Nurturing talent among women for the future of global business and society T he Women’s Forum Rising Talents Initiative aims to distinguish highly talented young women who are on their way to becoming influential figures in our economies and societies. This initiative is a commitment to promote women leaders and bring the vision of rising generations to the Women’s Forum. The Women’s Forum for the Economy & Society and its partners share a common belief: that the identification and nurturing of talent among women is critical for the future of global business and society. Each year some 15 young women join the Rising Talents network, attend the Women’s Forum Global Meeting and regional Women’s Forum Meetings, and benefit from enhanced networking activities during these events and in the future. In 2018, the Women’s Forum, together with Eurazeo, Lazard and Spencer Stuart, selected 11 inspiring wo¬men under 40 from among 200 candidates, represented a diver¬sity of sectors, from healthcare and biotechnologies to sustainable development and business innovation. Nominees were selected on the basis of having demonstrated outstanding skills, leadership, open-mindedness, an international mindset, and bravery in their personal and professional lives. LOOKING BACK Women’s Forum Global Meeting 2018 Bridging humanity for inclusive progress (14-16 November 2018 - Paris) F or a society to flourish, the connections among its people must be strong. Our societies and economies are a web of relationships among people, organisations, institutions and ecosystems. Recent events and trends have widened many of the divisions between countries, political parties, religions, generations, among institutions and within communities. Healing the fractures that have propagated across society’s many dimensions requires reconciling diverse perspectives and advancing together towards a shared vision. The Women’s Forum Global Meeting 2018 seeks to be part of that movement by examining global social and economic issues through the lens of bridging humanity. It looks to create the conditions to unlock fresh solutions through women’s leadership – especially for those challenges that disproportionately impact women – and contribute to a more inclusive world for all. Attracted more than 2500 leaders from 90 countries, the Women’s Forum Global Meeting 2018 discussed the most critical issues of our time, from climate change to technological disruption throughout the three days of the event. With the speaking engagements of influential, passionate and visionary leader from a diversity of sectors and industries, the discussion and spirited debate at the Global Meeting examined the world’s most pressing issues and envisioned solutions. This exploration of solutions was grouped into three main pillars: shifting mind-sets, reimagining organisations and putting technology to work. The world’s problems concern all humans, not just women, but women have a growing role in resolving them. Women leaders offer fresh perspectives; they take a long- term view, and they are skilled at building bridges and creating the conditions for action and impact.

LOOKING BACK Women’s Forum Singapore 2018 Bridging worlds for inclusive innovation (12-14 September 2018 - Singapore) S ingapore’s diverse and multicultural perspectives to tackle challenges has made it a thriving hub for investment, talent, research, development, and more. Holding the chairmanship on the completion of 50 years of ASEAN, Singapore is leading the region toward a disrupted age innovatively and dynamically. Gathered more than 800 delegates from 55 countries, Women’s Forum Singapore works on ensuring that women are as much the cause, as part of this progress. Focusing on smart cities, technology, investment and more, Women’s Forum Singapore was a pioneering event to foster women’s leadership for social progress and economic impact in Singapore, ASEAN, Asia and beyond. It also amplified the exchange of pioneering technologies and solutions between France and Singapore in their joint Year of Innovation by giving a platform to entrepreneurs, CEOs and start-ups from early stages to seed level to share insights and best practices from their industries. In an era of continuing disruption, it is imperative to look beyond the status quo, to tap into the power of human imagination and to envision many alternatives for a more sustainable and inclusive future, whether smart and green cities, more people-oriented work or a more equitable and inclusive society.

LOOKING BACK Women’s Forum Canada 2018 Bridging the gap: A call to the G7 for inclusive progress (10-11 May 2018 - Toronto, Canada) T he G7 is a uniquely influential coalition for decision-making and policy alignment among the world’s leading economies. It has a powerful influence on the shape and direction of global solutions, whether through the policy frameworks it chooses to apply, such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), or through the specific issues it chooses to address. Thus, the G7’s leaders know they have to listen to diverse voices in order to make their deliberations as inclusive as possible. Women’s voice is certainly one of them. With disruption and division dominating headlines, the bloc has never been more important. The issues at stake on their agenda – inclusive growth, jobs for the future, women’s empowerment, climate change and security – require urgent action to engage for impact and break out of outdated patterns and mindsets that stymie progress. We believe that women can provide the innovative views, perspectives and daring leadership that are needed to bridge humanity’s challenges and return the world’s economies to the path of stability, security and inclusive human progress. Women’s Forum Canada 2018 gathered 700 leaders from the G7 countries and beyond to reflect, react, bring best practices and added value to the topics on the G7’s agenda. Grounded in potential solutions and actions, Women’s Forum Canada offered a distinct view of how to bridge the gaps in an increasingly divided world – between developed and emerging economies, between the private and public sectors, between men and women, between the included and the excluded. It challenged the G7 not just to take on the issue of gender equality but to unlock the transformative potential of women’s leadership with the goal of having an impact on decision-makers.

LOOKING BACK Women’s Forum Mexico 2017 Unleash your leadership! (8-9 November 2017 - Mexico City, Mexico) T his is an opportunity to look at major trends and realise an open and culturally dynamic 21st century Mexico. Better leadership must go together with new leadership – new modes of managing companies and unleashing Mexico’s talent, new identities and inspiration for Mexicans as a people and for the country in the region and the world. This second edition of Women’s Forum Mexico brought together women and men, each an influencer or high potential in his or her field, for forward-looking debates intended to contribute to national renewal, encourage corporate innovation, and support individual leadership development. Our premise was that women’s experience, expertise, and vision are essential for achieving viable social and economic advancements – so we featured women leaders from Mexico and abroad in dialogue with their men counterparts. On the agenda for Women’s Forum Mexico: • How to promote more civic engagement to strengthen Mexico’s leadership? • Diversification: Our no. 1 priority • The trends we must take into account for a thriving 21st century workforce • Do it! Being leaders in our sectors • Learning from Mexico’s successes in doing business with Canada and Latin America • Changing the narrative for women: A needed cultural dialogue Zócalo Square, Mexico City

LOOKING BACK Women’s Forum Global Meeting 2017 Engage for impact! Daring to lead in a disrupted world (5-6 October 2017 - Paris, France) W e live in urgent times. The world has been rocked by political, social, economic and environmental shifts. Unexpected election results revealed the fault lines in our societies. Populism and protectionism are rising, political tensions are escalating, armed conflict and natural disasters caused by climate change are destroying livelihoods and lives. At the same time, accelerating technological innovation, automation and artificial intelligence are changing not just the way we work, but also the way we relate to each other and conceive of our place in the world. The Women’s Forum Global Meeting 2017 attracted 2,000 delegates from more than 81 countries to discuss the most critical issues of our time, from climate change to technological disruption. The Meeting took as its theme, “Engage for impact! Daring to lead in a disrupted world!” Some of the world’s most influential, passionate and visionary leaders spoke. Delegates included women who work in war zones, artists, influencers, entrepreneurs, business executives, young rising talents and many others. Special country delegations added to the depth and complexity of discussions. Through discussion and spirited debate, they examined the world’s most pressing issues and envisioned solutions. This exploration of solutions was grouped into five main pillars: daring to lead, embracing our humanity, harnessing technology, thriving through creativity and shaping the future of work. The world’s problems concern all humans, not just women, but women have a growing role in resolving them. LOOKING BACK Women’s Forum Rome 2017 Revitalising Europe with women’s energy for peace and prosperity (26-27 June 2017 - Rome, Italy) W omen’s Forum Rome gathered more than 200 thought-leaders representing government and business, Nobel prizewinners and top-level personalities across all sectors from Europe and from Mediterranean countries. Our ambition is to mobilise women’s energy to bolster and restore confidence in the future of Europe, and to build new bridges and facilitate dialogue between Europe and all Mediterranean countries. The Treaty of Rome gave rise to the European Union and to the common desire to improve living standards, guarantee social protection, combat discrimination, encourage cross-border mobility and promote democracy and personal freedom. Six decades after the Treaty of Rome was signed, the European Union has been reeling from one emergency to another, and EU leaders have responded with a “roadmap” in an effort to restore confidence and rally support for its core mission: to achieve lasting peace and growth for its 500 million citizens. Women’s Forum Rome created momentum and delivered strong messages for co-operation, growth, research & innovation, energy, infrastructure, mobility, investment & finance, education, culture. And it provided an opportunity to discuss and take action on behalf of European values, to foster prosperity and secure peace. Commit to European values Villa Medici, Rome
