2019 Oregon Ocean Salmon Sport Seasons Statewide Regulations: Anglers fishing for salmon and all anglers fishing from boats with a salmon on board are limited to no more than 2 single point barbless hooks per line, and no more than one line per angler. It is unlawful to fish for or take and retain any legal species while possessing on board any species not allowed to be taken in that area at that time. Minimum lengths: Chinook = 24”, coho = 16”, steelhead = 20”, no min. length for pink, chum, or sockeye salmon in ocean fishery. Refer to the “2019 Oregon Sportfishing Regulations” booklet for descriptions of special marine management areas including closed areas and additional restrictions. Leadbetter Point, WA to Cape Falcon, OR: Selective Coho (fin-clipped) Season: Season: Open June 22 through the earlier of September 30 or 79,800 marked coho quota (Chinook guideline of 7,150). Bag Limit: All salmon. Two salmon per day, but no more than one Chinook, and all coho must have a healed adipose fin clip. Notes: Open seven days per week. Closed within the Columbia Control Zone. Cape Falcon to Humbug Mountain: Chinook Season (all salmon except coho): Season: Open March 15 through Oct. 31 . Bag Limit: Two salmon per day, closed to retention of coho except as listed below for the “selective coho” and the “non-selective coho” seasons. Reduced aggregate wild Chinook bag limit in Nehalem Bay, Nehalem River, and within ½ mile of the mouth of Nehalem Bay (chart of zone at www.dfw.state.or.us/MRP/Salmon/) of no more than one non clipped Chinook from July 1 through Sept. 15. Selective Coho (fin-clipped) Season - open from Cape Falcon to OR/CA Border : Season: Open June 22 through earlier of Aug. 25 or 90,000 fin-clipped coho quota. Bag Limit: Two salmon per day. Open for all salmon, all coho must have a healed adipose fin-clip. Cape Falcon to Humbug Mountain: Non-selective Coho Season (all salmon): Season: Open each Fri-Sun from Aug. 31—Sept. 30 or 9,000 coho quota. Bag Limit: All salmon. Two salmon per day. Note: All salmon except coho is open on days closed to coho retention in September. Notes: •Within the Stonewall Bank Yelloweye Rockfish Conservation Area salmon angling is restricted to trolling on all depth halibut days. •Chinook Season (all salmon except coho) will reopen for the period of March 15 - April 30, 2020 unless modified by in-season action in March 2020. Humbug Mountain to OR/CA Border: Chinook Season (all salmon except coho): Season: Open May 25 through Sept. 2 Bag Limit: Two salmon per day, closed to retention of coho except as listed above during the “selective coho” season. 2
2019 Pacific Halibut Sport Seasons COLUMBIA RIVER SUBAREA (Leadbetter Pt., WA to Cape Falcon, OR) Nearshore Season (Quota = 500 lbs.) The Stonewall Bank YRCA (about 15 miles west of Newport) is closed to Pacific halibut fishing. Anglers on vessels possessing Pacific halibut are prohibited from SOUTHERN OREGON SUBAREA (Humbug Mt. to OR/CA border) All-Depth Season (Quota = 11,322 lbs.) Open May 1, seven days per week, through the earlier of the quota or Oct. 31 STATEWIDE REGULATIONS It is mandatory to have a descending device onboard the vessel when fishing for Pacific halibut, and to use it when releasing any rockfish species outside of 30 fathoms. Daily bag limit: 1 Pacific halibut. Annual limit: 6. No length limit. Pacific halibut possession limit: 1 daily limit at sea, 3 daily limits on land Fathom lines and conservation areas are defined by waypoints Pacific halibut seasons are managed and enforced based on port of landing. Halibut may only be landed at ports located within areas currently open to halibut retention, regardless of area of catch. North of Humbug Mt.: During days open to all-depth halibut fishing, only salmon (as regulations allow), sablefish, Pacific cod, flatfish species (soles, flounders, sanddabs & turbots), tuna, and most other offshore pelagic species may be in possession or landed when Pacific halibut are onboard the vessel. During days closed to all-depth halibut fishing, retention of groundfish (as regulations allow; including other species of flatfish outside of the seasonal depth restriction) is permitted when Pacific halibut are onboard. South of Humbug Mt.: When angling for Pacific halibut outside of the 40-fm curve, only salmon (as regulations allow), sablefish, Pacific cod, flatfish species (soles, flounders, sanddabs & turbots), tuna, and most other offshore pelagic species may be in possession or landed when Pacific halibut are onboard the vessel. It is unlawful to fish for or take and retain any species while possessing onboard any species not allowed to be taken in that area at the time. Stonewall Bank Yelloweye Rockfish Conservation Area Within the Stonewall Bank YRCA it is UNLAWFUL to fish for, take or retain Pacific halibut or any species from the "Groundfish Group" (defined in the Oregon Sport Fishing Regula- tions) including lingcod, rockfish, greenling, Pacific cod, skates and flatfish. The Stonewall Bank YRCA is OPEN to sport fishing for these commonly targeted species: Salmon & steelhead (using authorized methods during authorized seasons) Tuna & other Offshore Pelagic Species (defined in the Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations) 5
Any vessel fishing for or possessing bottomfish, Pacific halibut, or flatfish in the ocean MUST HAVE A FUNCTIONAL DESCENDING DEVICE onboard; and are required to USE IT on any rockfish released outside of 30 fathoms. 6

OCEAN SALMON IDENTIFICATION GUIDE Chinook (King) Salmon Lower jaw is a uniform dark coloration (in some cases may be mottled). Large irregular spots on back Spots may be present in both upper and lower halves of the tail Tail fin rays are smooth Teeth sharp and firmly set Chinook Lower Jaw Coho (Silver) Salmon Lower jaw has a distinct banding pattern. Outside the base of the teeth there is a dark band, at the base of the teeth is a white or very light band, and inside of the base of the teeth is another dark band.
