Convenors’ message
    Dear delegate,

It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the 2nd Asia Pacific Humanitarian Leadership Conference
    in Melbourne.

We have put together a practical and thought provoking program designed for Humanitarians, aid professionals
and interested people from the Asia Pacific and around the world. This is an opportunity for key players in the
sector to share analysis, experiences, best practice and information on emerging and continuing issues.

Over three days of plenary, panel and breakout sessions, the program includes over 25 separate sessions where
delegates will hear from over 60 international and national speakers, who have travelled from over 15 different
    countries to be here.

We encourage you to engage with our presenters, as they share their knowledge and engage in debate on relevant,
novel and insightful topics, issues and experiences.

Throughout the conference, there will also be many networking opportunities including the two official
conference functions: an informal Welcome Reception on Wednesday evening and the Conference Dinner that will
be held under the iconic spire of the Arts Centre Melbourne.

We would like to thank the IKEA Foundation and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for their support
    for the conference.

We wish you an excellent conference experience.

    Yours sincerely,

Associate Professor Phil Connors Mr Stephen McDonald

Humanitarian
Leadership Conference
The purpose of the 2019 Asia Pacific Humanitarian Leadership Conference is to bring together leading
humanitarian thinkers from around the world for three days of plenary sessions, panels, presentations and
networking opportunities.

You will have the opportunity to critically reflect on the challenges facing good leadership in the
humanitarian space and the future of humanitarian action in the Asia Pacific and fragile states.

The conference theme Humanitarian Leadership and the Future of Humanitarian Action provides the
framework for four key areas that will be explored:

• Humanitarian leadership in a shifting system
• The future of humanitarian action
• Climate change and leadership
• Localisation

The Centre for Humanitarian Leadership is a collaborative venture between
Deakin University and Save the Children that combines good humanitarian
                             practice with academic rigour.

We work with humanitarian leaders to influence how humanitarian organisations, and the system, respond
to and engage with the increasingly complex humanitarian environment.

Our vision is that disaster and conflict-affected communities aiming to achieve social and economic resilience
and recovery will be supported by a humanitarian system that is characterised by leadership excellence..
