LSE is fantastic. From the grandeur of the buildings and architecture to the ambition and ideas harboured by fellow students, it is a place that really motivates you to fulfil your potential. I was lucky enough to receive funding from the LSE Graduate Support Scheme in order to assist me with the financial costs of my study – without this support I wouldn’t have been able to pursue a master’s. I feel that by attending LSE I have furthered my personal and academic skills. The staff were always happy to help and provided valuable insight given that they are leaders in their fields of research. Beyond the studying, LSE is a hub of internationalism, which has allowed me to learn a great deal about other cultures and has really broadened my world- perspective. I have many friends from all areas of the globe that I will be sure to keep in touch with. Tom Rooke Dorchester, UK MSc History of International Relations Graduate Support Scheme

However, after applying to the programme and being made a conditional offer, my excitement was tempered by the reality that I may not be able to take up the offer wit hout the necessary funds - so it was a huge honour to receive both the LSE Master’s Award and Desmond G. I was awarded funding from the UK’s Economic and Social Research Council. It was a requirement of my funding to do an MSc in research methods before going on to do a PhD, and it’s taught me very valuable skills that I can now bring to both academic and applied settings. There is a good amount of funding available at LSE for students from all over the world. The quality and breadth of methods training available has been invaluable in terms of building my skills both for research consultancies and academic research. I find that in the professional world, it’s much easier to pick up content knowledge than methodological knowledge so I would definitely recommend using your master’s to pick up practical methods skills. After my MSc, I’ll be pursuing a P hD in demography in LSE’s Department of Social Policy, researching inequalities of access to reproductive and maternal health care.
