Welcome back! I hope you have all enjoyed a restful half term and a wonderful bank holiday weekend of Platinum Jubilee Celebrations! On Friday 4th June, Litcham streets were closed to traffic, trimmed with bunting and lined with banquet tables and chairs. Over 400 of us enjoyed a delicious hog roast meal, followed by amazing royal cakes which were donated in their hundreds! The atmosphere was a brilliant sense of community and an at- mosphere full of joy. At craft tables hundreds of souvenir pebbles were decorated and music and other entertainment was enjoyed by all. Huge thanks to all the organisers and helpers, led by Sadie, Sarah and Claire, for putting on an event that could not have gone better. The weather was as glorious as the day itself, where many happy memories were made! It’s been a very busy start to the new half term and we were able to hold our Induction Evening for Year 6 families on Wednesday. I would like to share that we were so incredibly impressed by the Year 10 Ambas- sadors, who were absolutely amazing on the night. I have had so much positive feedback from the Year 6 parents, who really enjoyed the evening. Your student presence, words and conversations have really offered reassurance and raised the anticipation of all the opportunities that lie ahead . I would like to ex- tend a massive THANK YOU to you all. I hope you are all feeling very proud of yourselves. Norfolk Libraries - Volunteers required to help run Summer Reading Challenge Norfolk libraries have now started recruiting young volunteers to help with the Summer Reading Challenge. In previous years we’ve always had a fantastic team of young volunteers working with us at the Dere- ham and Swaffham Libraries to make the Summer Reading Challenge the great success it always is, and we are very pleased that we can return to having volunteers working with us again this year. This role is aimed at young people aged between 12-16 (although young volunteers over the age of 16 are also welcome to apply). Why volunteer? Young volunteers are vital to supporting the Summer Reading Challenge within libraries. In Norfolk li- braries we work with young volunteers to ensure that children taking part are encouraged to keep their reading skills up during the holidays. We are offering the following to young volunteers who sign up to help us this summer: A chance to become part of the library team in order to gain valuable skills and work experience. An opportunity to meet new people and make a positive contribution in your local community. A clear induction session so you know what we are asking you to do. Workshops to assist in your learning. A certificate, awarded at the end of your volunteering placement. A written reference for education or work applications. What will be involved? Volunteers work alongside library staff to support the Summer Reading Challenge. As part of this they will be asked to: Register young readers for the challenge. Help them to select books by sharing reading recommendations. Work with staff to prepare activities. Use creative skills to assist with craft activities and preparing displays. How to get involved We ask all our volunteers to complete an application pack so that we have your contact details and pa- rental consent. In order to give us time to process applications ahead of the start of the summer holi- days, applications should be submitted by Friday 8 July 2022. At larger libraries demand for placements may be high so it is recommended that applications are made as soon as possible.
PE Department England International and Manchester City footballer Lauren Hemp visits Girls Football Festival at Litcham School ahead of Women’s Euros On Wednesday 25th May, Litcham School organised a girls’ five-a-side football tournament to promote and celebrate the upcoming UEFA Women’s Euros. Four teams; England, Norway, Germany and Spain spent the afternoon battling it out to become European Champions whilst in the presence of Norfolk born star Lauren Hemp. The opening game of the tournament was played at Bramall Lane and saw England beat Norway 5 – 2. Spain also took 3 points after winning 5 – 1 against Germany at St Mary’s Stadium. Round 2 saw Spain draw to Norway 2-2 whilst England travelled to St Mary’s Stadium to play Germany in a game that drew 3-3 at Bramall Lane. After some welcomed half time orange slices, the final game was the decider with both England and Spain level on 4 points. After full time the score was tied in an exciting 1-1 finish which resulted in a penalty shootout. Lauren Hemp, from North Walsham, has 19 senior caps and 6 goals for England. She also recently made her 100th appearance for Manchester City and marked this with her 50 th career goal. On this oc- casion, the left winger switched up her usual position and volunteered to be goalkeeper for the penalty shootout. The first four penalties were expertly saved before Lexi put England ahead with which was swiftly followed by Aggie for Spain. It took 10 penalties to separate the sides. With sudden death loom- ing, Lyra stepped up to take Spain’s fifth penalty which was struck towards the bottom left corner. Lau- ren got a slight hand to it which tipped the ball onto the inside of the post, it then bounced back onto Lauren’s head and over the goal line. Massive congratulations go to Phoebe, Lyra, Aggie, Ruby and Abi who were rewarded with a Nike foot- ball and a UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 Official Panini Sticker Book each. The tournament was followed by a raffle in which Year 7 pupil Lucy was presented with a signed England shirt and Year 10 pupil Emily won a signed Manchester City training top. A big thank you to everyone who took part, especially Year 11 pupils’ Ruby and Bella who refereed all the games throughout the tournament.

As the cost of living is rapidly rising we would like to respond to this by supporting local families that maybe struggling by collecting items of food for the Dereham Food Bank. There is a list of food that is particularly requested this month below. There will be boxes/bags in your Tutor rooms to put items in.
