FEBRUARY 2019 NEWSLETTER Jackpot this Friday 8th March $1000 Dollars Friday nights at the club, is still the place to go, raffles, food and drinks, many laughs, what more could you want to unwind from your week with friends and where friends are made. Stay after the raffles and enjoy a game of pool or a game of darts (just ask at the bar for the darts). Wow, didn’t we get some hot days at the beginning of the month, thank goodness it’s settling down to better temperatures, and those sleepless nights are a killer. Kontiki news: Some nice fish are being caught, great way to spend an evening with friends or just a nice quiet fish on your own, without the hassle of taking the boat out, any fishing is good fishing, beats working!!!! Beware the pesky sea gulls, they are there in a flash and next thing one of your hooks with bait is flying in the air, I know it happened to us and I was running down the beach after one of ours, I was scared that I wouldn’t get it back and a child/person or dog would find it and that could end up badly as the hooks are really sharp. It’s a lovely social time as well, as people nearly always stop and say Hi how are you doing. Although last time we were out we personally only caught one Kahawai, but hey that’s fishing. Harbour fishing was going off a few weeks back, most people came home with either their limit of some good feeds from there time on the water. Again, personally Ian and I didn’t do well, we went out Wed 13th, we spent 6 hours in the blazing hot sun, and we caught NOWT, DIDDLY SQUAT, ha!! Just sea lettuce, but it was a lovely day on the water and we had our lunch on the boat, better than being at home doing the house work, it’s not all about catching your limit, although I must admit I was a tad disappointed about not having fresh fish for tea, but then a kind person from the club gave us some snapper fillets and smoked gem fish, which was great!!!! That’s what makes our club special, the people. Pio Road, Bowentown Phone/Fax: (07) 863 5006 RD1, Katikati 3177 Email:bbsfc@eol.co.nz
FUN QUIZ NIGHT 23rd FEB AT THE CLUB Thanks to all that came to the club to join in the quiz night, as it was one of my first quiz nights, I will admit I was rather nervous, but I don’t know why, everyone had a great time, although it was thought that four rounds went too quickly. Kenny you are a legend, you did a great job on mic! The quiz was won by who got the most rounds, it was a draw, so Kenny asked for one person out of each team to come up and answer a tie breaker, which was answered wrongly so the team member for Beach Kiwis won. We might have to sort out if this is a fair way of doing it, but, hey it’s a FUN NIGHT and anything goes, ha!!!!! Some of the answers were great!!!!! Watching a few members’ frustrations due to not remembering which comedy that Nora Batty appeared in was funny. A variety of names were used for the teams we had The Mad Dogs, Tickety Boo, Beach Kiwis, Emerton and 240-8 GREAT NAME CHOICES GUYS. I will try and run a quiz night once a month, any ideas email me chrisandian@xtra.co.nz but please remember the emphasis is on a fun night. After the quiz there was a karaoke and apparently it was a great night at the club. Watch the space for more karaoke’s, quizzes and much more. This recipe is from this month’s NZ Bay Fisher CRUMBED FISH WITH LIME AND PARSLEY SAUCE WHITE SAUCE: 50g butter. 1 ½ Tablespoon flour. 1 ½ cup milk. 2 Tbspn lime juice and zest. 2 Tbspn chopped parsley. Method: In a saucepan melt butter, add flour and cook through. Gradually add milk stirring to stop any lumps forming. Add lime juice, zest and parsley. Just before serving add a small knob of butter and season to taste. CRUMBED FISH: 4-6 fresh fish fillets in flour then dip in egg and breadcrumbs (potato chips or crackers crumbled and mixed with breadcrumbs for a yummy change) Cook fish in an equal amount of oil and butter till golden. Remark: I use panko crumbs and I add a little parmesan when I cook my pan-fried fish. NOTE: If anyone has any surplus CD’s with good party, listening music that would suit being played on Juke Box, we would much appreciate, as our juke box is free, would be great to keep putting in some different tunes. Many thanks; I know a lot of people use Spotify through their phones, so maybe pass your old cds the clubs way.

BIG THANK YOU TO ALL Bowentown Boating & Sportfishing club would like to thank everyone for their patience around the date changes we have had to make for the Gallagher Fishing Comp. Our first date postponement was due to predicted big swell out at sea. Our second date change was so we did not clash with the Katikati Fire Brigades Fishing Competition. And would like to wish all Anglers the very best fishing. Thank you all again for making these changes with us. Looking forward to seeing all and happy fishing GALLAGHER CLASSIC’ 2 DAY OPEN WATER FISHING COMPETITION SAT 16th & SUN 17th March 2019 ENTRY $50 per angler $1,000 CASH FOR CLOSEST TO AVERAGE WEIGHT OVERALL (Excluding Kingfish & Marlin) 1st, 2nd, 3rd , 4th & 5th HEAVIEST PRIZES FOR SNAPPER, KAHAWAI, TREVALLY & TARAKIHI Plus 1st ,2nd & 3rd PRIZE FOR HEAVIEST KINGFISH, RED GURNARD, TUNA, COD,&JOHN DORY 1ST PRIZE ONLY MARLIN & MARLIN Tag & Release Gallagher Trophy Awarded to most successful skipper – highest average Number of fish per angler on boat BRIEFING 7.30pm Fri 15th March START 16th am Sat 17th March WEIGH IN 5pm – 6pm Saturday 1pm – 3pm Sunday PRIZEGIVING 5.30pm RESTAURANT OPEN COURTESY BUS AVAILABLE CONTACTS MARK LANE 022 437 5560 BOWENTOWN BOAT CLUB 07 8635006 RESTAURANT 07 8635017 Tickets available from BBSFC and Reel N Wave Non members welcome
