He visited Nelson with a focus on writing stories for rugby fans, specifically about Nelson as the Birthplace of NZ rugby. He visited the Botanics and Nelson College. Nelson has done well to garner two of the top three spots in AA Tourism’s Must-Dos for Kiwis website for the Abel Tasman National Park at #1 and the Abel Tasman Coast Track 3-5 day trip at #3. This is being promoted by Nelson Tasman Tourism leading up to visitors arriving for RWC 2011. The Nelson Regional Economic Development Agency is leading both a business readiness working group – led by Rowena Richards of Uniquely Nelson - that has a focus on the Tournament period as well as an economic development working party that EDA CE Bill Findlater chairs, which discusses business legacy from hosting the Tournament. These two groups meet regularly. The NREDA is also hosting executives from NZ2011 who are coming to Nelson for one in a series of workshops around the country focussed on giving businesses the tools to take advantage of any opportunities this signifi- cant occasion may present. Topics to be covered include: • Who from the region has registered for the NZ 2011 business club • Details on the international members travelling to Nelson and what sectors they represent • Legal implications for businesses and RWC 2011 • Information about the NZ 2011 Business Club.
