Higher Education@King's | 3 INTRODUCTION At King’s we are enormously proud of the exciting and eclectic range of leavers’ destinations for our Sixth Form students. Whether you’re interested in a degree apprenticeship at Barclays, Fashion Marketing at London Met, Film Production at the University of Gloucestershire, Aeronautical Engineering at Imperial College London, or Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic at Cambridge, we have huge experience in guiding our students and supporting them in their applications. We are also enormously proud of their outstanding achievements year on year: last year alone, 75% of our Upper Sixth leavers went on to Russell Group universities, with a remarkable 90% gaining a place at their first choice university. Whilst more than a quarter of the year group apply for places at Oxford and Cambridge university, we value each and every application, whether that’s to study at the National Centre for Circus Arts or Chemistry at University College, Oxford (to give two further examples of recent leavers’ destinations). Whatever you’re interested in, there’s a wealth of experience and knowledge at hand to guide, advise and support you in developing successful applications. Our new Your Future Programme, taught weekly by key staff and visiting specialists, is at the heart of our work to prepare students for the demands of university and careers. It focuses on core modules in Higher Education, Careers, Law and Democracy, Leadership and the King’s Baccalaureate, and Your Place in Society. In addition, we run a range of important training sessions on interview skills, CV writing, and Unifrog, an important one-stop online platform for Higher Education and Careers. Every student is allocated a specialist Personal Statement Tutor, benefits from one-to-one interviews to ensure that progress is on track, and attends UCAS Day, including an induction to the UCAS Apply online system. The Your Future Programme works alongside our superb Inspire Higher Education Programme, which includes trips, lectures and events, including regular seminars led by our Resident Graduate Seminar Leaders from Oxford and Cambridge universities. The landscape for Higher Education has evolved quickly in recent years, especially since the introduction of university tuition fees. Our experience suggests that this is a very positive time to be applying to university, so our advice to our students is very clear: aim high, be ambitious, work hard, and draw on the expertise of the key staff at King’s, and the Upper Sixth students who have been through the process recently. Higher Education Evening marks the start of an exciting window of opportunity for all of our students. We hope that you enjoy it and if you have any questions at all, please do ask us! Dr SJ Burley Deputy Head (Academic)
